    The onward march of T20

Yeah, the other flaw with the Victorian proposal - which is all it is, IMO - is that it's just the Big Three thinking nobody else matters. It's all well and good for Nick Cummins to talk about Melbourne Stars playing Karachi Kings, but when the conversation will only between CA, BCCI and the...

    The onward march of T20

Yeah, this was one of the most problematic things about the original Champions Trophy. A couple of paragraphs here stick out to me: Firstly, is this actually a thing or just another thought bubble from Cricket Victoria to get more big matches at the MCG (see also the India vs Pakistan MCG...

    Next Generation

I find this little snippet about Corey Rocchiccioli quite revealing. People develop at different rates. Just because we don't have a bunch of 21-year-olds dominating, it's not the end of the world.

Don't have a scorecard for it but here's a double-century partnership between Matthew Hayden and 17-year-old "apprentice footballer" Gary Neville. https://www.espncricinfo.com/photo/article-about-a-big-partnership-between-matthew-hayden-and-gary-neville-for-greenmount-cricket-club-1292723

    ICC T20 World Cup 2024 USA/West Indies (June 2-June 29)

That's how it is with a lot of international sports, though. The Olympics swapped swimming finals from the evening sessions to morning sessions to make it better for US TV. The AFL's feature matches are Friday nights because they get the best ratings. Even in cricket, day-night one-day...

    Cricket things that annoy you

I don't have any sympathy for the WSC or Rebel players - they knew in advance they wouldn't be officially sanctioned, but took the cash anyway.

It does raise an interesting question, though. This is part of the African Games, and this is the side representing South Africa. If they win the tournament, the gold medal goes to South Africa. Just because it's an understrength side, does that mean it's no longer representing them? There's...

How much petrol left in the tank?

There's nothing to suggest they will all disappear at the same time. And even if they did, we'll see the benefit of Australian selectors using white-ball formats to expose players to international level, such as these guys, who all played for Australia this summer: Will Sutherland: FC...

How much petrol left in the tank?

They manage him really well. Part of that is not having played a T20 since 2009 or an ODI since 2015, but also they know when to play him and when to leave him out. There's no reason why any of the Australians couldn't do the same - playing four of the five tests a summer, being phased out of...

How much petrol left in the tank?

The counter argument here is that Jimmy Anderson has taken 220+ wickets at 23 since turning 35. That's a far more relevant stat than anything that includes people who played 50 years ago. But even then, extrapolating anything from someone else's performance is a bit silly. All four of...

    2nd Test New Zealand v Australia March 8-12 0830hrs @ Hagley Oval

It was reported by Tim Wigmore in 2017 that most boards lose US$500,000 per test. I can't imagine tests have become any cheaper since then.

Nah, that's on re-sale sites. The original prices are below: FWIW, tickets to other matches in New York start at either US$60 or US$70. The other two Indian games had tickets starting at US$90 but those are all sold-out, too.

I won't post the scorecard but I signed up for Cricket Archive recently and, as you do, started searching for people I knew. Which is how, after almost 20 years of knowing him, I came to ask my brother-in-law: "Can you tell me about the time you dismissed Wasim Akram?"

    The onward march of T20

Interesting comment piece from Dan Brettig,. following on from the article a few posts back. Basically, Australia has gone all-in on tests, even though it's a much lesser priority elsewhere. (Nothing that NZ gets bigger crowds for T20Is than we do, in much smaller cities.) So if tests die out...
