I think they could have made it work better if they had larger populations to deal with on screen. A random one or two different colored hobbits or elves, whatever, stands out a lot more than say clans within a larger community. I was a deep Tolkienite back in the day. I enjoyed the original...

Maybe take over the McHale's Navy franchise? :tongueoutv1: Yeah PT boats would be good. They'd the boats themselves, and different island locations. Lots of night action, though. They could even work in a cameo by JFK. Doing a CV series could weave in Navy fighter pilots. :thumbsu:

It was damn good. And to think it was a bit of a accident. The Allison engine it originally had was inadequate and they were ready to scrap the whole design. Then some brilliant spark thought of putting a Merlin in. :thumbsu: It served in Korean and in other air forces for a long time. It...

Yeah, though towards the end of the war it really was a turkey shoot at times. If interested there is a massively underappreciated chapter of the airwar and overlooked documentary on it.... Video from the Past [13] - No. 75 Squadron's Defence of Port Moresby

For those who have only imagined it... Pretty brutal The 190s and 110s had good cannons. You can see the damage they could do. The 109s were usually there to strip away any escorts so big guns could go after the bombers.

Agreed :thumbsu: maybe a spoiler for some, but when those fighters got turned loose on the countryside after the bombers had left their area with pretty much carte blanche to strafe anything that moved, it had a massive impact. They started destroying what was left of the luftwaffe on the...

I don't remember that either, specifically. I knew as the US got more and more escorts up that they wanted the Luftwaffe to come up and engage. There were still plenty of important strategic target to bomb as well. If not officially recorded somewhere, it could have been just hyperbole like the...

    Movie Dune

I am thankful I grew up in a time when you usually had read the book before the movies started getting made. This iteration of Dune so far has been good. It's going to get denser. ;) I too vote for the longer format ala GoT.

The stories that came from the survivors of bombing campaign are horrific. It's good that Hanks/Spielberg didn't sugar coat it and tried to portray some of the worst. The ending of the episode was always going to happen IMHO. Just on the realistic view of the numbers of crews lost, and its a...

The Grand Tour (Clarkson, Hammond and May) - Amazon Prime

As the series went on and the production grew, they composed or staged more scenes. Sometimes they were sprung on at least one of the guys with others in on it, just for the reaction shots. That said, the backbone was always putting them in situations, not particularly dangerous, and letting...

As has been pointed out, the early phases of the bombing campaign were brutal. I would imagine phase 2 where the fighters could only go so far and bombers had to continue on alone, would have been even harder. Having the little friends all the way was a massive boost both in morale and...

I get where you're coming from, but for an older and very jaded viewer like myself I almost welcome the gut punch. Emotional spikes midway can improve an otherwise vanilla production. I like to be challenged a little. That said, this series is good. I've watched probably every airwar movie ever...

Criminal Record with Peter Capaldi isn't bad. I've watched first four episodes, still waiting for the big twist reveal. ;) Only neg for me is Capaldi is always giving the evil eye look. another oldie that was pretty jarring for its realism there's another I'm trying to dredge up from the dusty memory files of something similar in that it was totally unexpected execution style to the head, maybe even with a coup-d'grace while on the ground, not a close up to make it even more...

I watched it. I didn't enjoy it really. There was good acting to be sure, but it wasn't put together very well. It just didn't have any tension from any aspect. We know who did it early on. There wasn't much drama built into making the case. I felt it was mostly just a sad news report.

Some of these are not set in UK, but they have some Brit production. The Gold is pretty good. Not action packed, just a story well told. North Shore is UK/Aus, also not bad, if a little light. Has the fat guy from GoT in it. The Gone, Irish/NZ production. Also just finished The Tourist...

I watched Trigger Point S01. Not bad, interesting twists. They spend a lot of time with the lead characters psyche. Also watching The Responder. Not much in the way of crime solving. A dark, character study of a guy spiraling down. Excellent acting by Freeman. Not bad, in its own way. And...
