    Game Plan

Let me start by absolutely agreeing that winning is the most important thing... But I've been noticing the distinct change in our game plan since mid last year, and it was well elucidated on last night's Fox Footy coverage. It was once our superpower to go straight through the corridor with...

    Rating our U23 Prospects

Given I'm bored, I thought I'd take a leaf from some of the US sports and offer a rating of our 'rookie/prospects' - i.e. young players who have yet to establish themselves. For the purposes of this thread, I've drawn the line at anyone who was born in or after 2002, and has played fewer than 30...

Game Day Opening Round: GWS v Collingwood, Sunday 9th March 3:20pm

This came through from Tom Morris yesterday. Pies to play GWS (again) in Opening Round in 2025. I would have preferred to play one of the grand finalists, given they'd have less rest, but I'm okay with GWS as well (I can't remember how deep they went in the finals). Perryman to shut down Greene.

Strategy Changes and Pre-match discussion (Freo 15/7, MCG 1.45pm)

In: Mihocek, Maynard Out: WHE (finally?), Frampton I think Frampton is not going to make our 23 as a forward. I think he should be in the side as a key tall back, but Murphy seems to be preferred, so Frampton goes out for Mihocek.

Rate our best key forwards of the last 30 years

A mate and I were trying to pick our best 22 and second 22 from the last 30 years (since 1990), and while most positions look strong in both sides, we struggled with our key forward roles, to the extent where our 2nd key forward in the 2nd team was a really tough one to select. Who am I...

We've gone backwards on the ladder every year since 2010 except 2018

Not a great look for Buckley. Regressed according to the ladder each year against the previous year except for 2018.

    Positives and negatives

Didn't see this type of thing anywhere, so thought I'd start it. Top 5 player positives - Keane. Solid game from the youngster. Some good marks, some good tackles, and some good defensive decisions and attacking decisions. Also good footskills. Showed he is likely to develop into an AFL player...

    What to do with Stephenson

We all know he is the best young player on our list, and should be a significant contributor to our team when he gets a few years under his belt. The question is - where do we see him contributing the best, and what do we do with him this year. I know the easy answer is that he will rotate...

Three selections you'd like to see

Okay, I'll admit I'm bored. Interested to hear your top five 'non-best-22' selections you'd like to see during the preseason series (whatever it is called this year), and/or 'non-traditional-positions'. Mine below. 1. Murphy. Got to give him a bank flank and let him have a go at it. We need...

    Grand final match ups

Time to start looknig to next week. Match ups I would propose. Note - I'm assuming Darcy won't get selected (although I would select him). Kennedy - Goldsack Darling - Howe Vardy (when forward) - Langdon? Ryan - Crisp Rioli - Aish Le Cras - Maynard McGovern - Mayne Shuey - Greenwood I...

    Training Report 29 Jan

I went to training today for the first time this preseason. Some notes below. Those in partial training: Howe and Greenwood (ran laps together), Fasolo (laps and strides), Callum Brown (strides for part of it), Sier (looked fit, but ran laps only), Broomhead (laps, and at a pretty light pace)...

Best team from last 27 years

Okay, I'm bored. Here is my best team from 1990 to today. Give me yours. B: H Shaw, Presti, Clement HB: Buckley, Reid, Crosisca C: Millane, Swan, Brown HF: Williams, T Cloke, Tarrant F: Daicos, S Rocca, Russell Fol: Monkhorst, Pendles, Francis Int: T Shaw, Didak, Thomas, Burns Emer: McGuane...

    Changes for next game

We had around 8 or 9 of our best 22 out of the game on Friday night, and Bucks gave the impression that most of 6-7 of them would be available for selection. I know it Is tough to predict, but what do you want to see next week from a selection perspective? In: Pendles, Treloar, Cloke, Reid...

    Training Report - 12/02

All, I went down to training this morning (which turned into an absolutely beautiful morning) to watch the boys run around. They started out doing some standard warmup type drills and a full ground kicking drill, and then went straight into match simulation. Below are my notes: - Obvious...

Bumped NAB Cup - Three things you'd like to see (#123 p5)

The next main milestone we are all eagerly awaiting is the NAB Cup (haven't been as excited for a NAB Cup for a while), and I got to thinking yesterday about what I'd like to see us try during the NAB Cup. What are the three things you'd like to see? Note - feel free to be a bit creative, e.g...

    Roast Collingwood Fans Booing Lumumba

I thought it was pretty average to be honest. That bloke is a premiership player at our club. Loved the class of our players and staff members after the siren getting around him fully - obviously still very fond of him. Well done H.

NAB CUP - selection / positional experiments

We all know the NAB Cup will be used to try different things by the coaching staff, as Bucks has shown a greater propensity to experiment in this competition than his predecessor. This typically makes it an exciting time for fans, as we get a preview into players we otherwise wouldn't see at...

Josh Fraser (and other BigFooty myths...)

Thought it might be interesting to start a thread discussing (debunking) common myths that float around on this board (I know there are a few), and which ones tend to get you a little riled up. My number 1 myth on this board is the suggestion that MM destroyed Fraser's body by playing him...

Training this morning (Wed. 18th) ... and Indian food

I went down to training this morning to watch the boys run around. Some observations / comments below: - Wasn't all that active a session... Alot of short, crowded drills, rather than wide open full ground drills. - Cloke, Hudson, Goldsack, Williams, Beams didn't take part (they were seeing...

    Player Review v Brisbane

Not deliberately trying to get in first here, but wanted to get some thoughts in before I log off and hit the bar. Russell - average game only, really. Did some nice things, contested well, but made some fumbling errors. Pass mark Macaffer - quiet early, but then showed a bit as a marking...

What we need to do to win the flag...

If we are going to win the flag this year, it is CRITICAL that we convert more of the opportunities we get in front of goal. We miss far too many shots on goal from opportunities that really should be converted - far more than any other team I have seen over the last few years. Scorelines of...

AFL Round 20 - Collingwood v Sydney Swans - Sat night ANZ Stadium.

In: Didak, Tarrant Out: Young, Goldsack (inj). Young wasn't great, and I don't think we will see him too many more times this year. Goldy looks to have done a bit of damage, will likely need some time in the medical room. Need to bring in Dids, and I would bring Taz back as well.

Hands up if you are hoping for a draw at Patersons today?

Would take percentage differential v us away, and basically hand us back a game's breathing space against each club. And allow us to keep a top 2 spot by end of round....

AFL Round 15 - COLLINGWOOD V CARLTON - Friday 7.50 MCG - Changes and Prematch Discussion

In: Pendles, Tarrant, Sinclair Out: Buckley, Paine, Williams Wouldn't mind seeing Mooney for one more game at least. Didn't get much game time, but laid a couple of good tackles, and seemed to get around it a couple of times. Geez, I hate the sub-rule. Williams has done very little wrong...

    AFL Round 11 - Collingwood v Melbourne - Monday June 11th MCG - 3.15pm

Out: Ugle, Buckley, Williams, Pendles (inj), Young. In: Tarrant, Swan, Jolly, Shaw, Toovey. I know it is a lot of changes, but I think we will take the chance to get the game into our best available squad before everyone getting the week off. I'm assuming that each of the latter...

    AFL Round 9 - Collingwood v Adelaide Crows - Sat 26/5/12 - 7.40 pm - Changes and Prematch Discussion

Big game. Out: Swan, Reid In: Seedsman, Tarrant I know Tarrant will have only had one run, but we need him in the side to lend support to the backline. If he gets through the game and pulls up okay, let's bring him in. Seedsman to come into the midfield rotation (outside) and one of...

AFL Rd 6 - Collingwood vs Western Bulldogs - Changes and Prematch Discussion

In: Didak, Thomas, Shaw Out: Sinclair, Buckley, Ugle I'd be tempted to give Dawes a run in the twos - it is clear he has NO confidence - but I think we would do that when we get back a Tarrant or a Reid.

    Training 16/11

Managed to sneak away and have a good look at training this morning. Training this morning (Wed)

    Wood needs to play

My opinion is that we need to pick Cam Wood for the 2011 Grand Final. Jolly (if he gets out there at all) is going to be clearly hampered by his groin, and going against Ottens and West will get beaten badly. Wood (who's recent form in the AFL has been good) will provide relief against West...
