    Review First Semi-Final (2025): Box Hill Hawks v Brisbane Lions, 6 September 2025, 11.40am @ BHCO

They have slotted us in before the Hawthorn game v GWS. This is a disadvantage for Box Hill as you would think Hawthorn would take at least two emergencies to Sydney. Brisbane AFL play the Cats the night before and will be able to stack their VFL side the following morning. At least it will be Ch7.

    Review Round 22, 2023: Frankston v Box Hill Hawks, 18 August 2023, 7.05pm @ Kinetic Stadium

All roads lead towards the Friday night lights of Kinetic Stadium this weekend, with the Hawks set for a prime time tussle with the Dolphins. Box Hill head into the final home and away match of 2023 knowing a win will secure the Club a top four finish and the all-important double chance, while...

Hawthorn players eligible for VFL finals

Updated after AFL Rnd 24. With top four locked in, time to think about a VFL premiership. Usually a VFL team would be topped up for finals with a few fringe AFL players, but we will have a heap ineligible due to the rotation of our young blokes in and out of the AFL team. To play VFL finals you...

Did Gil just put mergers back on the agenda?

When asked about whether we would go to 20 teams he said “18 or 20”. I thought it was a slip of the tongue but he continued… “I think we will end up at an even number. The league has seen expansion and contraction and that will play out“ I reckon the AFL would prefer to stick with 18 teams, and...

2028 GF to be played interstate?

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2023/05/02/afl-weighing-up-whether-to-move-grand-final-during-construction-of-shane/ Reckon they will knock it down after the 27 GF (or RWC final in Oct if we get that, and get it done for the 29 Ashes Boxing Day Yest. One footy season without a southern stand is...

    VFL finals discussion

Box Hill only need to win two of their last three (Frankston, Cats, Swans) to make finals. Listed AFL players who have played AFL after July 1 need to have played six VFL games to be eligible for VFL finals. I reckon a winning VFL finals series is great for fringe and developing players, so I...

GWS is the AFL's biggest problem - not North, GC, or Tassie

We know the AFL media love a crisis. Right now it is North. Before this we have had GC, Port, Dees, etc. Changes were made and all have come through. North have 50K members and are financially solid, so that will be an easy three to five year fix with some player concessions. AFL media...

Time to re-think the secondary markets

Let's assume Tassie comes in the next five years as team 19. This is the perfect opportunity to maximise the benefits to the comp and the code of teams playing games in smaller markets. Currently Launceston - Hawks x 4 (year by year contract) Hobart - North x 4 (year by year) GWS - Canberra x 3...

Setting all 50/50 games for Rnd 1 was brilliant!

What a round of footy. All games except Cats/Bombers up for grab until the final quarter. Setting 50/50 match ups was the best thing the AFL has done in a long time. The AFL needs to extend the even match ups for round 1 & 2 next year. So all clubs get a home game.

Fixture Hawks after Tasmania? Sponsorship extended to 2027!

With a $750m stadium coming for Hobart and a $135m upgrade for UTAS, there is not much doubt Tasmania will be in the AFL by 2027. Surely the time has come for us to form an exit plan. Pretty sure our deal ends after this season, and with UTAS being redeveloped in 2023/24/25 this could well be...

Change to time slots / byes

With Thursday looking to be weekly going forward, and the broadcaster complaining about games overlapping, it is time to rejig the fixture. 1. Spread out the mid year byes. From rounds 9 - 18, one bye each week (except QB). The teams that have the bye play the following Thursday. 2. Only rounds...

What to do with our returned Tassie games in 2025?

OK, so this is not a thread to discuss the merits of the possible Tasmanian Devils, nor the likely-hood of it actually happening, nor when it might happen. Simply, if we exit Tassie at the end of 2024, what would you like the club to do with those four home games? 1. Play all four in...

Review Round 21, 2019: Box Hill Hawks v Collingwood, 24 August 2019, 2.00pm @ Box Hill City Oval

So Box Hill's involvement in the finals campaign comes down to this final home and away match of the season against Collingwood. The equation for Box Hill is simple. Win (or draw) and you're in; lose and you're out. The Hawks needed to come from behind last weekend to overcome the Northern...

Hawks to exit Tassie after 2023?

'No longer if but when': Push grows for a Tasmanian AFL team If you watched Gil on Fox last week it sounds like Tasmania will get their own team. Caro says it is likely around 2025, and that the Hawks will not renew the current contract. If a Tas team is coming, we will be already working an...

Sorry Jeff, but we do not want more big games in Tassie

Jeff's letter to members yesterday said he was unhappy that we were not playing more big Vic clubs in Launceston. I am unhappy with Jeff's letter. On behalf of the 66,000 Hawthorn members who do not live in Tasmania, surely we want the big games here at the MCG. Richmond and Collingwood play 14...

    AFLW should be starting tonight

Starting the week after the GF and running over summer is the best way for AFLW to get coverage and support. It would get a life of its own. In 2022 when all teams are in they could run 18 rounds (with two byes) and a four week finals and the GF would be the week before the men start. Thoughts?

Preview VFL QF Box Hill Hawks v Port Melbourne @ BH Sun 2pm

Given Hawthorn is done, I am hoping this is OK on the main Hawk board. Mods feel free to move. Box Hill finished second and face Port Melbourne @ Box Hill City Oval, where Port won fairly easily two weeks ago, but with a few Hawks to come back from AFL, and VFL injury, this should be a...

    Which current players are champions?

First, let's define a champion. I footy I reckon it is a player that has been absolutely elite over a long period of time. Someone who can be relied upon to influence the result of matches, particularly in big games and big moments. Once you are granted Champion status, you retain it for the...

So what do we do now?

Let's keep this positive. Yes, mistakes have been made in the off season, but what do we need to do to get back to the top in the shortest amount of time? 1. Give every player on our list 3+ games to see what they offer at top level. Certainly if you are not showing enough to convince Clarko...
