I heard this yesterday and thought it couldn't possibly be true given how often clubs sack coaches. I looked it up and saw we've only had four coaches since we sacked John Devine in 1988.
Malcolm Blight, Gary Ayres and Mark Thompson all resigned as coach. None of them were sacked and given how...
I've finally found the win percentages of each club from 2007-2022 and while we all know there's a big gap between our win rate and the next best, it's interesting to see how close the win rates of Hawthorn, Sydney and Collingwood are, with a big gap to the rest after that.
Geelong - 73.58%...
Will this blunder set the Crows back in their rebuild? The last time I can remember a club doing well after such a huge blunder is Hawthorn who did alright after selecting Mitch Thorp before Joel Selwood in 2006, but that was a rare exception plus the draft system was far different back then to...
Two great dynasties and eras from the past decade but which side was stronger and had the better period of dominance?
This should be an interesting discussion for neutrals who hold no bias or allegion towards the Hawks or Tigers at all.
Regardless of which club you support, you can't deny this is one of the all time great eras. Joel Selwood playing in more finals than any other player and having the highest win percentage of any player to have played 300 games says it all.
I'd be worried about this if I were a Demons fan or someone backing the Demons to go all the way this year. Here's the records of top 4 vs top 4 this year.
Sydney: 3-0
Geelong: 2-1
Collingwood: 2-2
Melbourne: 0-4
I still think Sydney are being underrated given their record against the top 4.
The fact every other club in the league has finished in the bottom 4 at some point since 2010 is a good illustration of how consistently good we've been over a long period of time.
The last time every other club finished in the bottom 4:
Adelaide: 2021
Brisbane: 2018
Carlton: 2019...
Another terrific season in what has been the greatest era in club history. Written off by all and sundry coming into 2022 only to have the minor premiership sewn up with a game still to play.
Another premiership would be the cherry on top of a very delicious cake but this season is a success...
How do neutrals see the Collingwood-Richmond rivalry? Is it a genuine two way rivalry that runs both ways, or is it a one way rivalry?
I ask this because it seems like it's mostly a one way rivalry from Richmond's end, while Collingwood don't seem to care about Richmond as much as Richmond care...
Hawthorn failed to beat us for 5 years after we lost a grand final to them. Richmond have failed to beat us for 2 years (and counting) after we lost a grand final to them.
The rivalry with Hawthorn is obviously no longer there since they've become irrelevant but the rivalry with Richmond is...
It's probably Hawthorn in Victoria and Melbourne especially - but Australia wide you could make an argument for Geelong being bigger - especially in WA because of Polly Farmer and the influence he had on bringing people through the gates to watch Geelong play.
Folks calling for us to implement a youth policy have been doing so since 2010. We didn't do so then and we won't do so now. Why would we when the alternative is to keep fielding the strongest team we can week in, week out and continue being a perennial premiership contender?
