One of my favourite awards that exists in other sports (most notably to me the NFL) is Comeback Player of the year that recognises a player who has overcome adversity (generally) injury to return to success.
Given the prevalence of major injuries and other adversities in the AFL I thought it...
I don't watch a lot of under 18's. Just the championship and a few games here and there. Then I see highlights, read the experts and try to read between the lines as well. Plus any rumours. Either way, I still wanted to have a go at a first round but I don't want to be so self indulgent as to...
Mark 'Robbo' Robinson is the Chief Football Writer for the biggest footy paper in the country - and associated online media.
He hosts AFL 360 which if not the highest rating AFL show it surely has the most content.
Both of these jobs also link him in with News Corp and Foxtel and the massive...
The AFL forgot to send the memo:
The MRP have been lenient for most of the year but today I think it's official.
Weller. Front on contact. No play at the ball. Straight in the shoulder and neck area and lucky wasn't right on to the top of the head. Gets away with just a fine.
Malceski and...
The AFL and Coles have today launched talking Boony style figurines with 15 different ones available. http://aflfootymate.com/
But with 2 different Tigers, Pies and Hawks (and a don't bemoan those clubs getting 2, they'll sell like hot cakes) it's only 12 clubs represented.
I'm angry there's...
Obviously the TV deal would drop dramatically with games going head to head on different networks or using secondary channels.
Would it be over-saturation for the masses? Or do passionate fans already mostly own foxtel and those who don't wouldn't care.
How would the drop in revenue hit clubs...
Sorry for non Victorian fans who won't be troubled by this. But Myki is our dysfunctional public transport smart card introduced a few years back. It's terrible for a whole number of reasons, many of which aren't relevant to AFL footy games but some are.
Firstly, Jolimont station has an...
Thought this thread could start off on the main board and maybe more after a while. Sorry if this has been covered.
But the AFL in their wisdom are having fox footy broadcast all but 6 of the nab challenge games this year.
The 6 games not being broadcast:
Bris v Saints
Adel v North
GWS v GC...
Well what a great win for the little guy.

Oh and even better. Rookies, draftees and minimal salary players don't qualify so it's only...

*Did a quick search and only found a stadium board thread so thought I'd start a thread and it can be merged or moved later*
But sounds like some...
http://www.afl.com.au/video/2014-08-16/mackay-left-dazed-after-clash-of-heads
Seems to be a push in the back that contributed to Mackay being concussed (and resulted in Deledio getting a goal).
There was plenty of outrage but no suspension with a similar incident from Jaegar O'Meara earlier...

Possibly one of the most cringeworthy ads of all time.
The $135 dollar option for a player who hasn't even played a game seems a real bargain. Better buy up your Sean Gregory's and Tim McGenniss' before the all sell out. Interestingly Matthew Dick from Sydney is the...
Best view is at 0:55. Arms pinned. Rotated around 270 degrees and dumped on to his forearm/elbow which causes the force to dislocate his shoulder.
Compared to probably the two most infamous sling tackles
Is it that much difference between the head hitting the ground causing a concussion...
It seems like pretty much anything goes these days.
You used to push an opponent away from the ball but then have to pretend to mark it whilst letting it go.
Now you just grab the defender, push them way across the goal and it's all good.
Check out the work by Pods here with the Jenkins...
If the AFL want to clean up the game maybe they should look at the root cause of the Viney hit and not try to make it against the rules to compete for the football.
Centre bounces create the environment where players charge off the line and if the ball ends up in between the mids and forwards...
Ok sorry if this has been covered before or others don't feel the same way. And yes being a Melbourne supporter I am a rare visitor to Etihad but I think the seating set up is a complete farce.
But 31,000 people at last nights game. And a good percentage (at least 10,000) were Melbourne fans...
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-02-17/cost-of-living-split
Now we've all debated the COLA and I don't think anyone outside of Sydney supporters will ever be happy with anything other than either no COLA or a relocation bonus to 1st to 3rd year players dealing with a more expensive rent market...
Just read this afl.com.au article and it's fascinating

It's also alarming that NT Thunder have the power to restrict opportunity for out of contract players.
Does this happen anywhere else? I know there's been talk of compensation...
So according to the herald sun the Dees have gone with Stuey Dew as their senior assistant coach, guaranteed to take over the head coach job in 2 or 3 years.
Dew has one more year on his contract with Sydney. Is currently stoppages coach but they have offered him the promotion to midfield...
So trade radio today were talking up the Dal Santo to North trade or Free agency possibilities. Whereby North and NDS waive the contract option and Dal Santo becomes a free agent. Goes to North for free and then St Kilda get a nice juicy start of second round compensation pick around pick 20...
Not at all meaning to troll or presuming Freo will just win but I see a team that plays ultra hard and competitive footy being in it's first prelim final in which it's a real shot to win coming up against an experienced side. Throw in a couple of nigglers and hot heads like Crowley and...
Say what you want about him as a commentator and also bag his ability to hold dual roles as a media man and agent but have a look at his success rate in placing guys with second clubs. It looks remarkably good to me.
His stable includes:
David Rodan
Orren Stephenson
James Sellar
Nick Lower...

Compare those. Near on identical incidents as far as I'm concerned. Off the ball clean punches to a guy not looking.
I know Hall's has more force which comes from his size and boxing training and he also had a bad record but...
I've watched a fair chunk of you guys the last few weeks - Melb, Bulldogs, Hawks, Geelong and obviously its about the best 4 game stretch in your history but who's teaching kicking up there.
I see guys like Campbell Brown, Tom Murphy, Matty Warnock who used to be a shank king come in and look...
I've got this theory that Neeld doesn't rate Prendergast. I think its why he didn't trade Bate for a second round pick or delist anymore than the minimum players. Sure Bate is training well, but he's still got a lot of work to do to prove he's got an AFL future.
I also think it was part of...
I think we're all aware that the appointment of Neeld means nothing unless he can get a good team around him. I think he needs a senior assistant, not necessarily an Eade or Craig, but someone who's highly credentialed and experienced. Besides that though we probably need some fresh talent in...
I don't know about most of you guys but for mine West Coast have been a quality side this year but we don't see a lot of them. Also from what I've noticed is that they've played a pretty consistent best 22 this year. That had me thinking there might be a few worth poaching especially if Scott...
