The VLSG website has changed its address to www.viclions.com/.
The site has been update with the recent addition of its own message board. Jump along for a visit and join up! Carn the Roys!
Well, I haven't been on BF for a while as I've been pretty busy with a number of things (some very important things which you all might find out about in the not too distant future - keep on reading the newspapers, as well as watching The Footy Show for updates).
Anyway, I thought I'd pop my...
For the Metro show, Wednesday the 30th of January 2002.
Is anybody else going? It should be a great show, as their likely to play a lot of old and new, New Order hits, as well as those dating back to the Joy Division days.
I can't wait! :D
What good stuff is there from NZ?
I know there are some obvious ones, but to get the ball rolling, I'll give mention to a recent act, by the name of "Garageland", who have had two albums, with 1999's 'Do What You Want', housing the classic single 'You've gotta kiss it all goodbye'.
What's the scariest moment you've ever had at the football?
One of the scariest I remember, was when Richard Osborne went nuts for Fitzroy, early in the game against Collingwood, round 20, 1989. It was a pretty fierce brawl, in an all-important game for a finals position. I'm surprised that...
My favourite memories would be:
Smashing Pumpkins, 1998, Melbourne Park. (Touring on the "Adore" album).
Radiohead, 1998, Festival Hall. (Touring on the "Ok Computer" and "The Bends" albums).
Augie March, 2000, The Athenaeum Theatre (Touring on the "Sunset Studies" album).
Gomez...
Paul Roos would have to be the epitomy of gentlemen. A true leader, who displayed all the characteristics of a great role model. Honest, selflessness, determination, and a cool head, all matched with his ultimate talent as a player.
I reckon Roos would have to be one of the more underrated...
What do you guys think of musicians who use drugs recreationally, or are drug addicts?
It's often strange, when you hear about a musician being in this category, when up until that point, there were no hints or signs that the person was inclined in that manner.
Over the years, there have...
Who would be some of the Roys greatest diehard/hero types? (ie: Those who would give life and limb out on the ground).
Seeing all those old photos of Alan Gale, I can't help but feel that he must have been one hell of a player, who took one hell of a physical beating, week-in week-out. Most...
It thought it would be interesting to start a few discussions on the types of players the Roys had over the years (ie: thugs, stars, heroes, etc.).
Who were some of the Roys ever greatest thugs?
In the time I supported the club, Dean Lupson would have to rank as number 1 (even though he...
A big turn-out at Brunswick St. Oval today, saw the Reds ripping into the pre-season training. With JB and Chris Tehan running the show, there was significant emphasis on fitness training, with endurance sprints and runs being the order of the day.
The following skills sessions showed, that...
One of the stranger lyricists around, IMO, would be Michael Stipe. Anyone who can write and entire song ('Stand', from the album Green) about "standing in the place where you are", and "using a compass" to turn and face "north" and then "west", is surely having a bit of a go at something...
I was disappointed that the Lions didn't pick up Charlie Gardiner in the draft. I mentioned about half-way through the year, that I thought he'd be a good pick and I actually thought he'd go a lot higher than he did, but was still around by our first pick, although we let him go by.
Full...
Who are some of your favourite prolific song-writers?
Some of mine would be:
Paul Simon
R.E.M.
Billy Corgan
Paul McCartney
Perhaps we could have a discussion about some of the names that are brought up.
Have any of you guys on here ever caught up with each other?
I reckon the Geelong board should have a get-together at some stage. It'd be an all-star cast. JUBJUB, Catman, Red Rover, Nolsey, PhatandPhreaky, GoCatsGo, NakedDeadGuy, and myself (and others!). It's the best of BigFooty, minus...
Most clubs have done a "Team of the Century" now, and it's interesting to note some of the players from those clubs, who missed the cut.
For instance, from Fitzroy:
Denis "Dinny" Ryan 1935-1939. 1936 Brownlow Medalist. 70 games, 65 goals. Leading club goal-kicker 1935. Victorian...
Although the year isn't quite finished yet, it's probably a fair enough bet that the better albums for 2001 have been released (although, apologies in advance if I am proven wrong!).
1. IS THIS IT - The Strokes
Lazy urban eccentrics never sounded so good. One of the very few art-pop...
Which year was it that J.Baldwin made the Victorian State squad?
It was either '93, or '94. I know he was selected in the intial squad, but didn't make the final cut.
I remember seeing a picture of him talking to Broderick at a State training session. For this reason, I am fairly certain...
I've recently found a few sites/pages on the Roys (and other interesting stuff) that I haven't noticed before:

For those in Melbourne who are interested in meeting up with a few Lions fans for a kick of the footy, there'll be a get-together on the SUNDAY of the Cup Weekend.
I won't post the details on the boards for security reasons. Needless to say, it will be in the city somewhere, and we'll drop...
Here are the moments voted by Geelong supporters everywhere, to have been the "Golden Days" of the Geelong board on BigFooty:
Who likes Geelong pies?
Red Rover and the old Geelong emblem
Mark "Mango" Bos
David Spriggs - Popcorn Mastermind
Some bad news . . .
And...
I've known Red Rover (see profile Red Rover :o :o :o) for quite some years now. He's a decent sort of bloke. The type of person, who at night, reclines in his leather Moran recliner, in his living room with rose-patterned carpet, listening to "Remember When" with Bruce and Phil on 3AW.
Not...
This has most likely been done before (not sure if it has), but it would be interesting to see what people's personal favourite albums are (not including compilation albums). Here are some of mine (no particular order), which I personally regard as classics:
Siamese Dream - Smashing Pumpkins...
What bands do people rate as having been influential in the music scene?
Here are some that I rate:
The Beatles (defined "Britpop" for all those 90's bands to rip off, by blending the sounds of Negro soul, and White-boy wig-outs).
Nirvana (defined, and popularised the...

Not many people on here would know...
Why don't the AFL reintroduce zoning to ALL clubs, in a pre-national draft, "zoning" draft.
Each club could get free reign, with up to 3 or so picks in the "zoning" draft, before heading off to the national draft.
Each club would have its own zone(s), which wouldn't be able to be drafted...
I, along with a couple of others, are planning on having an end of season get-together for Brisbane Lions and Fitzroy fans in Melbourne, over the Melbourne Cup weekend.
One thing that would be helpful, is if anyone on here, could attend, and has, or has access to, a portable BBQ. If you can...

So where did you get the name JUBJUB from then?
My guess, is that you stole it from that mini-series "Melissa" (screened on the ABC a few years back), which featured a band by the same name in the last episode.
Am I correct?
