Really thought we'd at least split the first two game. Wasn't to be. Next potential win Pies in rd. 7
Early thoughts on who'd be a top pick this year???
Obviously we have a draft thread; but thought we'd open up a separate one for the prestigious first pick.
Personally, I'd see what's on offer and see if we can use the rumours that Cam Rayner doesn't wish to go interstate and perhaps trade with Melbourne clubs in Carlton, North, Collingwood...
Really easy...well kinda; if the general consensus is correct and Andy McGrath is taken @ 1 - who do you want in a Lions jumper next year?
Hugh McCLUGGAGE
Ht: 185.6cm | Wt: 75.9kg | Hybrid Midfielder | North Ballarat Rebels
McCluggage has done it all this year – and off basically no...
Yes, usually a taboo topic - but one that I'd like people's opinion/s on :thumbsu:
For mine:
PROS:
1. Land best kid in the land (as seen at that particular time).
2. Pick 1 has the most leverage when it comes to potentially trading it.
3. Pre-season draft threat gets taken out of the...
We all know that injuries have held our midfield back in 2015 / 2016 (so far)...but did you know that
Beams, Rockliff, Hanley, Rich, Zorko & Robinson have never played together? They have been in the same team once in 2015 but Hanley got injured in the first quarter and Beams didn't play again...
On TFS, Barrett, through gritted teeth; mentioned that Rich has re-signed despite offers from all over the country.
Went on to say D.Beams saw leading knee specialist in Melbourne today and all looks under control. Still likely to miss weeks 1 - 4 though
So, general consensus is that your Top 16 players make or break you with regards to reaching the finals, but the quality of your bottom 6 (best 22) wins you a premiership. First things first; we are aiming for finals in 2016 (potentially 2015 if every single aspect of our season goes to plan) so...
Just a little bit of fun; it's finally up and running for 2014 after the bye rounds.
Here is my version with the Lions finishing 16th (couldn't be bothered with margins so left them all as 12pts).
I see us beating GWS & WCE at home :footy:
Every year I buy the bloody thing; usually for Supercoach related research. Not playing SC this season so totally forgot to purchase the bible.
Does anyone have a text version / pdf of the Crystal Ball section where they predict the 25 most likely highest draft picks for the year???
Many...
First, to all that celebrate it, hope you had a wonderful Easter :thumbsu:
Now, as we head to the quarter way mark of the season; looking at the draw, we'd have to be favourites for the wooden spoon and to nab the best kid in the country (often not the case down the track).
Our draw was hard...
Hi all,
I have two spare tickets for the Leigh Matthews book launch tonight in Camberwell, Melbourne.
6.30pm start.
Dinner and Drinks provided.
No cost.
Please PM me if you are interested :thumbsu:
Cheers.
Right now, Melbourne (and probably Brisbane later this year) has the opportunity to hire an AFL Premiership winning coach :footy:
From memory, I can't remember when such an abundance of coaches that have won a premiership are / will shortly be available:
K.Sheedy
P.Roos
J.Worsfold
M.Thompson...
A little tongue in cheek, a little "getting in early"............but I do think the Lions will be 14th at the end of 2013, giving us pick #5
Not sure if any of GWS, Melbourne, Western Bulldogs or Gold Coast (who I think we'll finish above) have any rights to those "banked" picks this...
Looking through our list, I can see it really taking shape. Need a few talls to fill in the gaps though:
Backline: Lester, Golby, Docherty, Hanley, Yeo, Harwood.
Rucks: Leuenberger, Longer
Mids: Rich, Rockliff, Redden, Karnezis, Beams, Polec, Mayes.
Forwards: Green, Bewick, Zorko...
OK, a little fun here....no need for over the top analysis etc. That's for other threads. Simply add a +1 and the side you sit on if you wish to participate. So, +1 Lose All or +1 Win at least one
Details:
Lions rd. 6 - 14 opponents are: SYD (A) WCE (H) ESS (A) CARL (H) COLL (H) FREO (A)...
Really simple one here; will the great Michael Voss survive if the Lions are on 2 wins prior to the second Q Clash. This is where I see us being ater 13 games :footy: (only beating GC next week and VFL standard club Melbourne).
If he does get shown the door, I'd hope the Lions fork out the $$$...
OK, OK - a cheeky heading. But looking through our soft as butter draw and couldn't help but notice that 5 wins out of 10 "decent chance to win games" will more than likely get us to 13 wins :D and probably finals football.
It never works out this easy, but I am killing time before a meeting...
A few extremely alarming stats, coupled with confirmation that our defence is very very good:
We rank 2nd in least amount of D50 contests lost in the AFL, behind West Coast :thumbsu:
We rank 6th in most amount of F50 contests won in the AFL :thumbsu: (how I don't know?)
We rank 17th in...
Footy journos have mentioned that we had about $600k spare a year to get Tippett. This wasn't enough, thankfully.
I know we have a lot of good young kids coming through etc. , but surely with Black and Brown to wind up shortly, we'll have a $1million per season free to go after a free agent or...
All things being well and equal, the Lions should start Rd.1 with a healthy group of mature players (24+) in our starting 18:
Adcock, Black, Brown, Hanley, Leuenberger, Maguire, Maloney, Martin, McGrath, Merrett, Patfull, Raines and Staker (13 all up). These guys will be vital during the...
Trade Whispers - Michael Whiting
Surely Mr. Whiting is not serious??? We need:
A CHB
A CHF
A FF
A small forward capable of kicking goals
A clearance specialist
2 premium mids
The mind boggles.......he makes it sound like we're on the cusp of a top 4 finish, not a team who has an average...
Above said player to go top 30 in National Draft according to fellow News Limted sources.
Half Back flanker
22 years old
Left footer
Ready to go rd.1
Jet.
For all the doom and gloom mentioned in all forms of the media after the failed Fevola trade, it must be said that the recruiting staff and subsequently the coaching/development staff have done an admirable job :thumbsu:
Whilst not an expert, I think I can call if a player has the attributes...
