I'm pulling stumps on Bigfooty as I've become too addicted to the place. Thanks for the humour and interesting discussions on the Collingwood board.
I still think we've got an outside chance this year. Go Pies!
To have reinvented himself in a new role to the point where he is playing acceptable footy, at his age with his lack of a skill set and all the flak he was copping is remarkable.
He's not much of a player, but I tip my hat to him. It's a fantastic effort for him to be a player at all.
Seriously underrated second half of 2017. Coming off most of a year out and no preseason, he regularly stood up in last quarters and big moments. With a full preseason, I reckon he's going to go from a much maligned player on this board to a universally respected gun. Albeit, it will take a fair...
Our best three running players (by a big margin) are Swan, Pendlebury and Sidebottom. But I think that they all need to be re-trained. To me, they've all learnt to kick/handball the ball softly towards their target. Basically, if my grandma was running onto one of their passes, she'd have no...
We have these rules where there is a nominated ruckman and noone can block his path to a ruck contest, assumedly in order to make sure that there is a fair contest between the two ruckman, but then we allow a third man to come in and jump over the top of the two competing ruckmen. Does anybody...
[***Mod edit: this thread was created to accommodate posts on The Sack from the 2015 pre-season thread. Is he best 22? Should he be in the leadership group? Is his defensive pressure overrated?***]
Goldy has been named in the leadership team. Hopefully this means he will be playing in defence.
I loved the look of this guy in his first season and thought he was going to be a star. When The Eagles first picked him up he looked like an absolute steal for a pick in the mid 20s. But a couple of years on and to me he looks very much like a standard mid 20s pick - He's an ok contributor...
They were great against St Kilda. I'm hoping that we can keep them pretty settled for a while.
God it was good to see Heath Shaw back to playing on a quality forward and shredding him. I hope he continues to get a quality forward each week. I've really disliked this attempt to free him up into...
We've got a very good list with all positions covered and good depth. We should be genuine challengers. But the last two seasons have made me think that a lot needs to change for us to genuinely compete.
We've got too many blokes with sloppy disposal skills. This might be somewhat alleviated...
Magnificent and incredibly gutsy last quarter, where we seemed to get the balance and structure right. But for three quarters we seemed to have the same issue that we had all last year - congested forward 50 and wide open defensive 50. It just seems to me that if a team gets clear anywhere...
Is anyone else concerned about the game plan that we appear to be going with. MM's hardcore forward press with significantly more risks through the centre of the ground.
The way that I see it, it is very likely to result in the same situation that occured last year - long bombs to a very...
If BHP management wanted to increase productivity and encouraged and pressured their miners to receive regular injections to the stomach and regularly placed them on drips in a non-mainstream experimental practice. And if this practice was prescribed by a scientist and not a doctor and conducted...
It's probably already been mentioned, but does anybody alse think that the new ruck laws are really bad for Collingwood.
Jolly and Lynch both like to make early body contact as they are usually a little bit shorter, have a smaller leap, yet are stronger than their counterparts. In the future...
Will clubs be more willing to trade blokes in their mid twenties as they are likely to become free agents soon?
Will the ability to acquire free agents result in a lowering of value for blokes who are being traded?
Will clubs be less inclined to draft project talls, because before they...
Is anyone else bewidlered by the roles that Cloke and Dawes are playing? Under MM Cloke played a long leading roaming Centre Half Forward role and he starred. Meanwhile, Dawes generally played as a long bomb target who brought the ball to ground and competed well at ground level and he was...
As a culture that no longer teaches kids to swim by throwing them in to the deep end, why are so many under the assumption that the best way of developing young players is too pick them and keep playing them before they have shown that they are AFL ready.
There has been a bit of trend over the last few years of the general consensus of young or fringe players being way too harsh.
Toovey - Not good enough. Can't even run without falling over.
Macaffer - Vanilla. Nothing going for him
L. Brown - Complete spud
Buckley and Macarthy are looking...
The title of this thread is intentionally facetious. I'm really just suggesting that getting an easy draw is in fact slightly disadvantageous. As I posted in a different thread, what real advantage is had by getting an easy draw? It doesn't help you win a premiership. The best teams always seem...
Proposed and seemingly certain changes to interchange rules will have a dramatic effect upon ruckmen. Teams will no longer be able to choose a second ruckman who changes on the bench. Inbetweeners who are competitive in other positions, eg. Leigh Brown, will be almost mandatory, because coaches...
The development of Reid, Dawes and N. Brown has been exceptional. They've all done enough this year to suggest bright futures Add in Cloke and we seem to be well set for KPP for a fair while.
The great news is that we appear to be well set for midfielders too.
Our game plan makes us very suscebtible if we are a little bit flat. We essentially play a basketball style full court press. When we are on we apply irresistable pressure that creates turnovers and then sprint forward manically once we have the ball.
It's a very physically demanding game...
To me he looks like he'll become a good solid player, but he's being hyped as the next superstar tall forward. To me the real gun KPFs all share one thing in common, and that is that those who have the physical attributes to compete with them in the air, generally can't run with them. I speak of...
