AFL pundit world is a hot take machine on a seven-day news cycle. Personally I'm happy we're not being talked about much. We're terrible frontrunners, much better as underdogs.
There's always room.
We are strong favourites, I guess because of Gold Coast's flakey past rather than huge confidence in Sydney. The result will tell if we're contenders or pretenders.
Imagine if this happened today. There'd be 85 million hot takes, Kane condemning the AFL for getting it wrong, the AFL hastily updatijng its fruit protocols, Kane condemning the AFL for over-reacting, etcetera. Simpler times back then.
Ha I had same reaction. If those club recruiters got onto BF more they would realise Wayward Hayward is an over-rated dud who can't kick to save his life
I think bookies hurt their brains trying to think about it and gave up. From one view, Melbourne is the only decent win we've had, given the rubbish of the Pies, Dons, Eagles. And Melbourne arguably were underdone in R1
The other view is the comp is very even and not much separates 15th from...
You can see West Coast set themselves for this after last year's humiliation. They beat us in just about every key stat - not encouraging news for an aspiring premier. But they clearly lifted. Harley Reid is really something.
Our best players stood up when it counted - Heeney, Gulden, Grundy...
Excellent use of stats to illuminate a trend. The two stats that stick out:
The Swans' higher scoring this year come almost entirely from turnover.
Buddy played just over half the season last year but was targeted a third more than the next highest player (Logan). This year it's McLean and...
David King brings the stats and unabashed enthusiasm for the Swans.
He predicts we will eclipse our biggest winning margin at the G this century (68 points).
"I'm going for the Swans to get hold of Richmond."

Not to make light of it but I'm sure for a lot Sydney people hearing the news the response is
don't buy drugs at the Clovelly
the Sydney Swans have a women's team.
It's far and away the most publicity our AFLW side has ever had -- eg, it was the no.1 story on the SMH site for half a day, no...
A good win. We're at that stage where we have some really good players who will stand up when needed.
Plus our running power. Essendon couldn't keep up and probably neither can most other teams.
I always enjoy Jude's punditry. More Jude, less Jobe.
Yeah Daicos is a class act but over-exposed thanks to the massive media gravity pull of Collingwood. We here complain Sydney is not getting enough attention, but the upside of that is when we're going rough we don't get slaughtered by the pundits every day the way Collingwood is copping.
The two comments over the weekend that stuck out for me:
- Kane Cornes pointing out how Swans and in particular Chad were so physically dominant. The number of times Warner just took on the tackler and brushed him aside. 18 months ago we got bullied out of the GF. Wouldn't happen today.

Ha, you misseed the best bit
Lloyd: It's great that they all got around Scultz even and walked off together
Huddo: That's McReae's mantra, don't act like losers
Leigh: They'll feel like losers anyway
A famous win. We answered every challenge. Goalkicking too erratic and we had a bizarre number of miscommunications but otherwise we had all the answers. Warner, Heeney again, JMac, TMac, Gulden, Rowbo. Winners all over the park
