You seem to be assuming that Boyd doesn't hold onto the mark if Toby doesn't turn his body and smash Boyd in the head though? He already has the ball in his hands when the contact occurs. Even without the mark I am not sure front- on contact applies when Boyd already has both hands on the ball...
I get what you're saying, but I feel like the "front-on contact" rule is more designed for players that are a fraction late to the contest and don't have a genuine chance to mark - they are just going to spoil/kill the contest.
In this case Boyd absolutely had a play on the mark, in fact he was...
I wasn't trying to discredit you, I mean you could be right, who knows? I was trying to make the point that the opposite scenario could also be true and I just don't think we have the strength of evidence to say either way.
Of course, people can point to all our other injures as evidence that...
Watching the midweek tackle and just heard Sam Lansberger say something that has to be considered a strong candidate for dumbest footy statement of 2024.
Apparently Toby Greene had a right to do what he did because the ball was kicked to him so he had a right to play on it. And Jordan Boyd...
Calm your farm, was a light-hearted comment, and a lot of what you've written just looks like speculation and assumption to me.
Walsh's injury is a really serious one that can be extremely debilitating. For all you know, he may have been managed exceptionally well - with lesser management...
The only thing more astounding than having 12 players on the injury list who would be in the mix for best 22, is that we pumped GWS in that second half without all 12! (okay so Weiters was on the ground, but he was on one leg.)
West Coast have definitely clicked a bit since the Sydney swans game.
Any team that plays them in Perth and shows up with a similar attitude to Freo tonight will get similar treatment I expect.
Bingo. We were off defensively all night and that's the reason we were beaten. Honestly Adelaide looked dangerous every time they got the ball forward of centre and scored the majority of their goals far too easily compared to how hard we worked for ours.
There seems to be something about...
Interestingly, the injury list may look really bad but if you take out the 4-5 perennially injured players then it actually looks .. um .. .. still really bad. :poo:
With all the injuries it feels like a game where we might be tempted to rush one or two guys back who really need an extra week.
I hope we don't because honestly (again due to all the injuries) I think we'll likely lose either way.
I agree hence the "could be a coincidence" which perhaps is better phrased as "could have valid reasons with coincidental timing."
My other statement was that the 3 hammy's in one day would inevitably raise eyebrows, which they absolutely have, even if mainly from those already critical of...
In fairness I think it probably also would have happened had we won.
3 hammy's in one day could absolutely be a coincidence but it's definitely the sort of thing that will raise eyebrows.
I'm not necessarily cranky about this, but it's a shame...
The year Cripps rose to prominence was the same year Judd got injured and retired. Imagine the magnificence of being able to watch those two out there together in full-flight, even if only for a season or two.
Except knees to the head from attempted high flying marks, which seem to be strangely immune to all the new duty of care processes.
I saw a player cop a knee to the head/face yesterday which clearly affected them yet I'm not even sure that said player was given a concussion test.
I understand that Fogarty's contest may have been late and high but he appeared to be playing the ball to me. Yes, he appeared to move his eyes to the player for a split second to assess positioning, but I wouldn't have thought that's inconsistent with running at a player for a spoil attempt...
We're very one-paced and undynamic in there at the moment. It doesn't seem very balanced.
As a result, the surety of some of our better users seems to have vanished a bit.
We didn't play that well, and indeed there's heaps to work on, but Freo aren't that good and it was nowhere near as improbable a win as the Brisbane game, especially from 46 points down.
Yeah the fumbling today was really frustrating, particularly at clearances.
There were so many clearances that felt like:
Carlton first use, fumble
Another Blues player, fumble again.
Freo player, clean hands and handball
Another Freo player, clean hands and hits a player on the outside
Then...
If Freo try that suffocating s**t on us again in finals, we'll be 100% ready and if we have anything resembling a full side we'll smash them by 10 goals. You know it.
Man on Man says it all - their game plan feels like taking the concept of tagging to a team level.
The best you can really do is negate, but it's very difficult to apply for the whole game - the talent can break away and get the better of you in a short period of time.
