Despite Sydney absolutely blitzing Casey early, especially in the second half there was a fair bit to like IMO at a player basis (as opposed to the scoreboard which was a 17 point loss).
Bowey - Played the full game in contrast to last week where he only played the first half. Played his...
Wow, Matthews just kicked a goal of the year contender. Half forward flank received the handball, 40 metre run with three bounces and then checkside through from 30 out near the boundary.
He's looking like a high impact player. I think Matthews has the type of game where he could be a contributor already at AFL level. If Latrelle starts to flag or there's injury to Chin then Matthews would have to be close to playing.
Some positional changes.
Oscar Berry is playing forward today after a brief stint there last week, as opposed to his defender role for the rest of the year.
Moniz-Wakefield also seems to be playing a bit higher up the ground than usual.
I've had a bit on today so not paying super tight attention to the game, but Xavier Taylor... he has bitten off a few high-risk kicks and stuffed them all. I guess he will learn from it.
Adams is looking really good early, backing up from last week where I also thought he was quite good...
Bartlett and all Board members are honarary, so when they are "sacked" there isn't any loss of income.
But there is likely loss of reputation, so public statements that somewhat restore reputation does seem to be the right sort of remedy.
Guerra on the other hand is losing potential income.
On SEN Tom Morris (I think) said 1-3 weeks for Petty with testing still on his heart and also for vertigo.
I'm no doctor, but it did look more like an "about to faint" type episode. I think I could lip read him say "I can't see" and when I've fainted I know my vision blacks out start from the...
A bit of sitting at the back of packs, being a loose man. I think his teammates were looking for him as the exit option. But that's what Bowey does anyway. He's not a clearance, contested player.
I'm no expert on these things, but I think his strength and hands are exceptional and he also appears to be an accurate kick.
On that basis I think it's worth seeing if his mobility can be improved in a fully professional environment. He's got more of a chance to develop into something...
Bowey - played at half back and started brightly getting plenty of touches. In tricky wind conditions his skills and level head really stood out. He only played the first half and then ran laps. He looks like he hasn't missed a beat from last year so I'd expect him back in the AFL team as soon...
I'm not that fussed by who wins or loses in the VFL, however you'd prefer to be in Casey's position. That wind they will be kicking with seemed to get stronger in the third quarter.
Not something I've seen too often. I reckon Richmond had FIVE players closest to their own goal after Moniz-Wakefield spoiled his good roving work by kicking a horrible turnover. When this attacking game plan goes wrong, it really goes wrong.
Gee, really nice play from Casey for a goal. Mentha cleaned up his own fumble, kicked a little touch ball to Henderson who immediately kicked long to Kentfield alone in the goal square. All into the wind.
This game has had such an old-school interpretation of push in the back. I don't mind it, but it's just strange to see it being paid when the tackler ends up lying on the back of the player with the ball.
Matthews is now getting a run on ball. It's been tough for the forward to get much action with the wind heavily favouring Richmond's end.
Having said that, the class of Bowey and Cross defied the wind. Bowey's kick finding Cross 25 out straight in front taking a strong mark under physical...
Oscar Berry is on the ground! I repeat, Oscar Berry is on the ground!
He's playing as a defender and kept a calm head to collect a ground ball and handpass to an open teammate.
Adams is on Fawcett who has had a few AFL games. Adams has started well with a nice mark and halving some other contests.
Like Melbourne, Casey are being quite aggressive with the defenders pressing up. After the ball was deep in Richmond's forward pocket Casey took it out and Tmac was already...
I'd expect Kentfield to do rucking and potentially Ah-Mu. There's enough VFL capable ruck types in this team.
Krasnadamskis isn't playing so it's unlikely he will do much rucking today.
It looks like Richmond have the advantage of a very strong wind which has made kicking the ball and judging it in the air a bit tricky. Mentha was in a perfect position to intercept a kick but the wind took it over his head.
