Official Club Stuff Carlton Academy - Next Gen & Father/Son/Daughter Discussion II

Still a lot of footy left to be played. The likes of Bulldogs NGA prospect El-Souki who would be rocketing up draft boards after kicking 6 goals two weeks in a row (29 touches, 6 goals is a pretty handy game). 175cm forward/mid who wouldn't have been top 30 at the start of the season, 4 goals...

Hot Topic Michael Voss - Okay, he's gone ... but when?

I was taken aback with Voss's comments earlier this year when asked about playing attacking football. Mentioning we want to play with more dare, but we need to stay humble. Came across as fence sitting. Then I saw Cripps on numerous occasions try to take the world on, only to monumentally f it...

Autopsy 2026 Rd 8 Blues disgraceful second half. Something must be done.

He impacted offensively, but I'm sick and tired of Saad peeling off his man, only to be caught in no man's land and throwing the whole defence into disarray. You're taught in junior footy not to leave your man if you can't impact, but he does it time and again.

    Rumour Bluemour Discussion XLI

If done on Monday and the players go up a day or two early, might be good bonding experience. Complicated by the fact the reserves game is on the Saturday morning in Casey, so we're unlikely to take up a big squad.

What do you mean, Priestley posted it in the board's group chat.

So many poorly directed kicks getting chopped off.

ESPN has Walker 3, HVH 2.

It's a fair point, and provided we have a top 2 or 3 pick, we can probably afford to call Richmond's bluff and get them to bid on Cochrane at 1. Walker vs HVH, one would think we choose Walker. Walker vs HVH + end of first round pick is a different story.

He's a fantastic talent but there's still a lot to play out. Players elevate in the champs. Cochrane was ridiculous last season and HVH is an athletic freak.

Part of me can't help but wonder if it's a coincidence that the AFL is announcing the rules while still "deliberating" the outcome of the Elijah investigation. One must wonder if whatever penalty we do get is tied directly to how we respond to said rule changes...

I imagine teams trading would forfeit the extra pick? i.e. based on finishing position, not on holding a top 5 pick.

Media Carlton in the Media (articles, podcasts etc) - Part IV

Next they'll be calling for a Royal Commission into the matter. I, for one, would prefer a Royal Commission into the incompetence of Greg Swann and how he's managed to escape scrutiny.

Official Club Stuff Carlton Academy - Next Gen & Father/Son/Daughter Discussion II

If we're bottom 2, trade with Richmond should be easy. A handshake agreement not to pick the player they're keen on, a commitment to bid on Cochrane, and give them the better of the GC/North second rounders. Richmond walks away with the same player, still gets an end of first round compo pick...

Clue: The AFL introduced new draft rules that gives bottom 5 and extra pick for bidding on a player. Answer: What is a perverse incentive?

If there was ever doubt the AFL is a boys club, one need not look any further than the lack of commentary around Greg Swann compared to Laura Kane. Game has regressed under his stewardship but not a word from the media.

As one of two players in the AFL older than, I for one, hope that Pendlebury has a long and fruitful career remaining in the game as he works his way towards 600.

Splitting hairs, but we've also got Gold Coast's second. So worst case would be 18 and 34 ;) .

Yep. Up against an athletic freak but managed to break even on hitouts after a diabolical first quarter. Much better second term but teammates aren't doing him any favours kicking it him vs Jackson.

Preview 2026 Rd 7 Carlton vs Fremantle Saturday 25th April 8:15PM AEST @ Optus Stadium

I genuinely believe that some supporters don't realise that coaches actually speak to the player. Also that discussions happen internally that we're not privy too. And especially that things we criticise the coaches for not trying on gameday may have already been tried, and deemed a failure...

Nevermind the flow on effect of having Dean, O'Farrell needing to take the best oppo forwards before their learning. Or being taught their craft by Lewis Young. Uncontested double fisted spoils into the corridor, yay! If Weitering is a product of his environment, how much of that is due to...

Changing everything and hoping something sticks isn't how it works in the real world. You need a semblance of continuity and cohesion. How can you measure what's broken and assess improvement if you change every variable at once? The reality is, we require a multi-year organisational change. I...

Universal Love Welcome to Carlton Graham Wright

Yep. They're also accountable to the decisions they make, unlike us hindsight warriors in the stands and the media. Case in point - sack Voss, how dare he start Cripps on the bench against the Crows, that cost us the game. The very next week - sack Voss, he starts the exact same midfield of...

He made a few mistakes but that was the first time I've noticed Monahan use his physical attributes to good effect. Very quick for his size, seems a very good runner.
