Surfers consistently compete above their weight division I reckon - nothing special about their list on paper but seem to be thereabouts every season - must be a really good group down there and obviously been well coached.
haha - yes but at least they are State league senior players. Imagine a bloke who is playing NTFL reserve grade getting paid $800 to play footy in Vic - the home of the code apparently - laughable really.
I often used to think this was not the case but it does appear on face value that some of the clubs with stronger advocates at club level who have been around the AFLQ scene longer seem to get "their way" if that makes sense.
Get rid of division 4 - all them all Div 3 north, central, south. Approx 11 teams per comp. It will be the lowest standard so for anyone to want to come into a competition there is no debate as to where they will fit - if luck has it and a club needs to drop out then 11 teams to 10 isn't a big...
Caloundra knocked off MB by a few goals. Think this comp in the main will be determined by availability of players week to week. The best players in each side make an enormous difference to the outcome so if they r missing then chance of defeat is there.
I said last week Magin looked a class...
Nah thats not a viable reason at all Lensen - both QAFL footy clubs up this way would have 50-100 game players like any other club. And players move on, like they do from GC and Bris sides as well. Think we have rolled that excuse out until we believe it ourselves without ever doing the research...
versus Sherwood who won 1 game last year? Roos didn't get (or ask) for any concessions 1st year in, not sure why clubs put hand up to come in and then are allowed to say "oh hang on, we made a mistake, we aren't actually going to be that competitive unless you help us out HQ".
Not having a go...
Yea I like the way Cornes goes about it - supports his opinion with evidence generally. King i find flips and flops too much from week to week depending on the games. Pre season talking Crows up as a potential finalist, now says they have a terrible list. Well that list hasn't changed from 8...
Yeah that's a bit better than having Kevin Sheedy do one and he auctions a piece of paraphernalia off then suddenly appears with another "one off" item from the boot of his car that he sells to the underbidder and pockets the cash.
Hodge is okay but jack R is the best i've heard for a while - he was always going to be good bc he was such a smart footballer AND had some excellent media exposure prior to retirement. Hodge is a bit vanilla for me.
I think Luke Darcy unknowingly hit the nail on the head when he went off on his own rant at Kane Cornes on MMM the other day. he says to him "you are given the golden ticket into post football media and you want to go off and criticise people in the industry" (paraphrased that a bit). I think...
Yea I think there is an unconscious bias against some of the female commentators. Bloody hell, if drew morphetts 10 yr old voice wasn’t enough to turn the tv off I’m not sure what was.
It’s a story retold over the history of football clubs of most codes. New coach arrives demanding that the club recruit players x,y, z. Which we need to pay decent money to of course if we r going to attract them.
Players don’t perform, coach leaves, club bottoms out significantly worse...
Agree - great reminder. If every coach imposed the AB's mantra of "sweep the rooms" to their playing groups this would be a massive time saver for a club volunteer. Unfortunately there is often a mindset of "the club owes the player". Never ever has this been true and the player(s) always owe...
