The umpiring error that cost us our season

It is decisions like these, and the automatic "it was the right call" response from the AFL, that has stopped me going to and watching footba. It is now an organisation, not a game.

Coach James Hird - is it time to give him a second chance at coaching an AFL club? Gil says yes!

There are some Essendon people who need to go to therapy to get over their complex, and move on. Sheedy? Hird? Get over wanting old glories. All the blood has been squeezed from those stones. Anyone but an ex.

    List Mgmt. 2021 draft pool.

I've been a bit busy and missed a few things. We brought in Tarrant, and how many went out? CCJ, Naish, Houli, Astbury and Chol who was perhaps a rookie? How many list spots have we got, given we look like taking 5 draft picks?

When will the Carlton FC Arrive?

Carlton is improving, and not missing much. if they have salary cap (IF), then they can move up the ladder quite fast, with about three solid recruits.

News Clarkson succession plan: Mitchell to coach in 2023

Couldn't agree more. i like Hawthorn. i like Mitchell. But why choose a favourite son if not for nostalgia? That should never be part of the criteria. Of course he could work out. However if some of your decision amking was based on fondness, then the chances are reduced, in an already...

    Steve Hocking Gone

I am confident he would NOT have thought the look of the game was needing changing, and possibly distupting the Geelong team strategy, if the teams were reversed.

    Player Watch #21: Noah Balta

I'm constantly amazed how far he kicks. The opposition are onto it though. It doesn't catch them out. It still moves the ball a long way.

Have a look at the ladder. See if you can find the other three of the "big four". It isn't easy and it takes a while, but totally worth the wait. Like when you've been constipated for a bit.

Can Hawthorn succeed while ignoring the elite end of the draft? - Part 2

How often does hiring a former great player as your coach, work out? Mitchell coaching Hawthorn is a bad plan for both of them. Trying to hang on to some past glory that was is an almost certain way down a ladder.

When will the Carlton FC Arrive?

Richmond had at least three players out who would have played, had they not been injured. Houli, Cotchin and Soldo. Your main ruck, your main inside mid and main run and carry half back. Now it ain't a disaster, but it is equivalent to who Carlton had out IMO.

News Coaches' concussion worry sparks push for 23rd player

The AFL know how to tie themselves in knots. Can anyone please explain what the 4 normal interchange players are for? The VFL/AFL has no plan for what they want. The used to have no subs/interchanges. Then they had injury subs Then just interchanges The interchanges AND injury subs. Then...

Opinion The National Draft... is not really a National Draft?

Totally agree. They have evolved a mess. Time for a review and start a new system, which provides clear balance. I suspect the reason it can't be a clear system is the players association having a lot of power in wanting free agency. Not sure how to get around that one.

Pages 70-75 of the Grand final thread: "Dimma has to go back to the drawing board. Richmond's game plan is unsustainable ". That was during the second quarter. I'm thinking about printing all those comments and surrounding the premiership poster with them then mounting it.

We are just a team of roleplayers. No real stars except Martin. Reiwolt does not have 3 Coleman's. Lynch is a 3rd tall. Short and Prestia are not Jack Dyer medallists. Vlastuin Grimes and Houli have no all Australians and no idea. Cotchin wouldn't know a Brownlow if it stabbed him with a...

Opinion Whateley - pushing shortened quarters?

If we change to a different game length we cancel the history of the longest running league in the world. We can no longer compare a Titus or Coleman or Diesel or others. Game record scores become frozen forever and your team can never exceed or erase them. Statistics and scores only mean...

    Burgoyne - sling tackle

So Dusty gets suspended due to "potential to cause injury", even though that wasn't a valid criteria. Now a Geelong player is tacked and the AFL quickly implements "potential to injure". Typical. It should always have been the case, by the way. Burgoyne deserved three weeks. Dusty deserved his...

    Adelaide's decline

Why is Walker still in the firsts? He doesn't follow up, he doesn't put much thought into his "passes" and just belts it downfield. He stays away from goal (I'm sure he is told to) but adds nothing in the middle. Most contests he actually gets to, the ball passes him by.
