Training 2025 Off-Season & Preseason reports and discussion

Great write up Newmo. I got to watch the game as well and couldn’t agree more with your observations of Tom Barrass. He completely nullified the high ball threat and immediately looks like the foundation of that defensive unit. Watching down on the fence we could hear the intensity right...

AFLW Player Welcome to Hawthorn, Laura Stone

Laura really settled into the pace of the game in the second half and showed some excellent top level traits; reading the play well to intercept and line breaking speed.

Classy game again tonight from Jaz. Takes options nobody else even sees such is her vision.

AFLW Autopsy Round 7, 2022: Hawthorn vs Port Adelaide, Saturday 8 October 7.10pm Frankston Oval

Great win Hawks. Loved the work of Kemp and Richardson down back winning some crucial contests. Hipwell growing in confidence and did some really nice things tonight. Our link up play was delightful to watch when used tonight and Lucy Wales is a bloody gem too. Go Hawks.

Thanks for the intel Fear The Beard Sicily is the key to both our attack off halfback and my Supercoach team

Training 2021 Pre Season training watch

Thanks for all of your amazing work Axeman. Have you or any other track watchers noted the role that Impey has played during match sim? He has the potential to be a real driving force for us from half-back/wing and hope he doesn't get plonked in the forward pocket.

    Chris Langford

Langford was an excellent Fullback and seems to get underrated during discussions about All time defenders. Perhaps playing in a team of greats had something to do with it. He was much more than a simple negating fullback who backed himself to beat his man to the ball and generated heaps of...

    2020 HFC Pre Season Training

True. He’s got a few in front of him for that type of role. His skills just seem to suit a behind the ball role rather than forward/wing where he lacks creativity and burst. He will need to string together some solid BH form to get a chance

    2020 HFC Pre Season Training

Harry Morrison does look a little bigger and the pics of him playing a deep defender role have me hoping that he is being groomed for a 'behind the ball' move. e.g. HBF

Player Watch Welcome to Hawthorn - Emerson Jeka - delisted 2023

My sources at the Western Jets suggest we have an absolute steal. As for his kicking, at Jets he was rated as one of the best kicks in their squad.

Training Axeman’s training reports and discussion thread

My observation of Mitch with regards to his marking was that he looked still a year or so of ‘body maturing’ away from being able to over power opponents in a wrestle. Watch his strength improve as he matures and soon enough he will monster some defenders. He has a huge frame for a bloke that...

Training Axeman’s training reports and discussion thread

Both Chad and Jars were favourites for my kids who went today to watch. Both went out of their way to ask the kids questions and have a laugh. Impressive characters both of them.

Training Axeman’s training reports and discussion thread

Excellent write up Axeman. I also noticed how Impey just seemed full of energy the whole session and seemed to be in everything. Smiling the whole way through but never lacking intensity in his offensive and defensive efforts. Minchington also stood out for me and looks a class above VFL...

Autopsy 2018 1st Qualifying Final: Richmond defeats Hawthorn

One thing notable last night was when we were facing waves of tigers pressuring the player with the ball, we acted like it was a hot potato and flicked it to someone else as quick as we could even if the teammate was half a metre away. That’s ok but the wave of tigers moved on to that player...

Autopsy 2018 1st Qualifying Final: Richmond defeats Hawthorn

Good - Mitchell, Shiels, O’Meara and early tackle pressure..Impey holds his marks and he is in the best 3 for us Bad - two rucks didn’t give us any edge at all. Won’t be too harsh but we had about 6-8 blokes fumbly vs Tigers 1-2 Ugly - easy missed set shots. Can’t do that vs the best team in...

Training Training Reports - Current report, Monday 13th February, Post #1427

From the couple of sessions I have attended it seemed to me that Clarko stalked the centre square line observing while Cam Bruce did the most barking with Ratts a close second. Clarko steps in to address the whole group at times then retreats a little while his senior assistants run the...

Training Training Reports - Current report, Monday 13th February, Post #1427

Attended this morning's training session and here are some of my observations. In general it was pleasing to see very few a large squad performing almost the entire session at a very high intensity and mostly high standard given the sometimes wet and always windy conditions. We seem to be in...

    Make or Break Seasons

I always thought Liam Picken was just a negating run-with who had basic foot skills...perhaps Will Langford just needs a revised role. He is still relatively inexperienced so I'm prepared to cut him a bit of slack but I agree it is a big year for his career.

    Toast Hawthorn have headf***ed everyone

A headf@$?ed caller on KB's show this morning raising his 'concern' about Clarko's ability to develop kids...trotted out the same 'they've just bought in Lake, Hale, Frawley and Burgoyne' line...thankfully KB and Greg Denham not having any of it and firing back with ' well they haven't exactly...

    Our Rucks

Have both been making consistent contributions of late. Solid role players who have good chemistry as a pairing. A couple of clunks and maybe even a few goals per game is exactly what we're after from our rucks. Both have good endurance and have paced themselves throughout the year and will be...

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn Pick 44: Blake Hardwick, re-signs for 5 years!

Andrew Russell praised young Blake's preseason and hinted that he had all the tools to play soon...this combined with the mentions of how pleased the senior boys were with his competitiveness and physicality on the track...a chance to play this season? I reckon we have him earmarked for fwd/mid...

List Mgmt. How Much Do You Rate Our Draftees?

Loved seeing the tackles laid by all 70 odd kilos of Kade Stewart in his highlights. His size might see him pushed around at VFL level but I recall thinking the same of Miles last year and we all saw how well he went at BHH in the seniors.

Autopsy Hawks vs Eagles Grand Final - We take our thirteenth flag!!!! The Threepeat is ours

He got him with about 20secs left on the clock in the first quarter, the centre bounce after Hilly's goal. Strong tackle, gave me supreme confidence that not only were we 'on' kicking for goal but also nailing big tackles.

Autopsy Hawks vs Eagles Grand Final - We take our thirteenth flag!!!! The Threepeat is ours

What about Punky's tackle on Priddis just as he is about to drive the ball inside their fwd 50? It's probably just because I have watched each of the threepeat games over and over again but it seems like we have produced 3 of our best ever pressure act & tackling performances when it matters...

Preview 2015 Grand Final: Hawthorn v West Coast Eagles - Gunston IN, Hartung OUT

WC backline are all fairly quick which allows them to help each other out with McGovern floating to all the high balls to take marks. Teams are aware of this and try to use the wide flanks and pockets to stretch their 'team defense' (like a zone in Basketball'. But what do you have less of at...
