Agreed, I'm not as down on Warner's game as others are. He was around the ball often enough and he's a great runner. He had three shots at goal which isn't bad and with time to settle in the role and the side I think he'll show more. I liked his pre-season game against Brisbane too. Particularly...
You can just tell with how Roberts is handling his short-lived transition into defence that Longmire would adore him. He looks so settled already; happy to fly for marks, to help out in the air to spoil, he doesn't look overawed defending and his kicking fits in nicely with how we play the game...
He may well already have accumulated more Brownlow votes out of his first three games of 2024 than he has in any previous season. His best so far was in 2021 with 8.
Francis and Hamling are ready to go to replace them if needed. Big step down from McCartin but not huge from Melican tbh.
I'm still bullish on Will Edwards too. I reckon he'll play seniors in the next 12 months.
I think Melican is the type of defender who you need to be at the ground to make a proper assessment of his play. He's not a star but he's a solid KPD who looks even better in a really good team. Kinda like Jack Payne at Brisbane - neither are top of the line players but they're both solid...
i reckon he’s not far from a debut. Moves like a seniors player, covers the ground easily and is daring with the ball. I can see him getting some sub games very soon.
Hayward has never been a huge ball-winner and never will be so I really like that the coaching staff have decided to maximise his strengths by releasing him from having to gut run up and back all over the ground and solidify him as a deep forward/tackling goal-kicker. He's winning a little less...
The key thing we’d lose without the likes of Wicks, Corey, Fox at HF (particularly the last two) is running power though. They’re playing the roles where they have to go up and back and cover the field and the corridor which requires high octane running. Wicks and his tackling at speed is also a...
I was thinking this last night too. For a bloke that big, you’d think he would have been in on the crash and bash Essendon ploy but he was a complete non factor. Logan’s go isn’t taking wrestling contested marks and he still threw McKay aside to mark 15m out straight in front.
Love it when an...
I agree on both counts for Wright’s and Draper’s in game efforts.
I’m very dubious Draper will ever be an AA. I’d question it seriously in fact. He’s not a serious footballer imo. He’s a gimmicky player - his remarkable athleticism is spectacular to watch on a highlight reel and he can kick...
Peter Wright’s effort on Cunningham was bad and not tolerable in the game anymore so it should and will be punished. I’d actually argue that Draper’s late challenge on Jake Lloyd was more pathetic and emblematic of fake toughness from Essendon.
On a related note, is there a challenger to Draper...
I’m interested in whom Robbie Fox plays on this week. There’s no interceptor that I can see in the Bombers side - Ridley is injured. Rodman won’t play given he’s suspended and is more of a rebounding player anyway. Fox might get a job on Nic Martin or Andrew McGrath to quell their rebound.
His presence as a physical midfielder, not just a wingman, has been really good. The return of Mills, Parker and Adams will be very interesting for how it affects ts the midfield time of McInerney and Jordon in particular imo. Their foot speed has added another edge in our midfield.

Young Player of the Year is your vote for the best player on the ground from this list below:
Matt Roberts
Braeden Campbell
Logan McDonald
Report suggesting we’re interested in Zurhaar, assuming that’s true, makes me think it’s a bit of contingency for if Hayward leaves. I’d suspect that if Hayward re-signs, we’ll no longer have any interest in Zurhaar.
I have a hunch we might see James Jordon follow Nick Daicos around on Friday night. No inside word obviously, but we’ve tended to play directly on him and Jordon seems versatile, disciplined and fit enough to get the job.
I think it's a genuine chance to keep going because of what it allows other players to do. Roberts stepping up to be defender/rebounder who the coaches clearly rate highly alongside Blakey and Florent. It also might allow Campbell and McInerney to push forward a little more (as well as continue...
McInerney was really physical against Melbourne and I loved seeing it. His aggression around the ground at the man and ball was excellent. I also love him pushing forward, I think he can be a real asset forward of the ball with his size, running, and skill. He's a serious asset.
This is our most important player and I tend to think it’s by a fair margin. For example, I think we can lose Gulden and we’d be absolutely a worse side but our unique weapons in Chad and Blakey would be able to take up some of the slack in terms of their run, overlap, and kicking skills around...
I think three talls is ideal and it has also helped us to play our best footy over the last two years. I think it depends on who the three talls are and how they are playing. I wouldn’t like the idea of going into a game with only Logan and McLean as our talls; we saw how Logan got dominated by...
Agree with this too. Hayward out of the square looked good. I like that they’ve let him off from having to do all the grunt running and the forward defensive roles (Fox stood on Lever much of the night from what I saw). And hopefully focusing him on being maximially damaging with the ball inside...
Robbie Fox was nowhere near our best but being at the ground helped me see how hard he was working as the high half forward runner type that bedford accurately forecasted he would be. His running is quite something to watch live. A couple of shots at goal and some quality tackles made it a good...
I think their glut of small runners that you list is gonna be a huge weapon given how the game is played with so much dependent on hard run off HB and through the wings with precision kicking - those guys are gonna be huge weapons imo.
I'd also add that the Saints have been maligned for being...
I must say, at first when thinking about this season I thought St.Kilda were gonna fall out of the 8 very confidently. I actually think the more I consider them the more I think they'll be a top 6 team. You look at their best 23 and it's got more stars or possible stars (AA types is how I think...
Only change I could see to this could be Melican left out because Melbourne’s forward line isn’t that tall. That would mean Roberts into the 22 as a defender rather than sub and then probably Fox as sub.
