I have no problem with him stating publicly even an over the top claim we're gonna win the flag. Players needs to believe their Coach has their back. If a coach believes in his team to the point where he'll back em to win it all then they'll draw confidence from knowing he thinks they can do it.

Lots of netballers follow the AFL too so they don't like a bit of hard physical play. I've heard them scream obstruction many a time at a game.
