You're a bit of a goose, do you want a high five or a hug? Or are you going to start apologising for any times you've been wrong? With Dew we were always going to give him an extended run and if/when that failed it HAD to be for a highly credentialed coach – one of which became available in 2022...
Whether or not Jack is happier in defence, I bet Hardwick is pretty happy with the idea the ball was used by him 22 times. And that he is also a risk of sneaking far enough forward to kick a goal or two makes him pretty useful to a coach.
A lot of talk on here last year about letting players...
Anyone jumping off of Ben King now is just being silly. The guy spent the last few weeks of last season injured and just came into competitive training a couple weeks ago.
Not good tonight, but geez!
Certainly, Hardwick would want very, very much to lure a big-ish name here. But I also imagine he'll discover exactly how difficult that has been historically for us, and how difficult it still is.
If he does succeed in bringing some sort of impressive player up here, I'm sure we all...
We’ve wasted money and draft picks for no good result before, Dimma and Dusty gives us game day legitimacy we’ve never had before. That’s worse case scenario.
I’d probably try for some ambassadorial money, or to spread it out.
But yeah I’d do a two or three year deal just to get him. If he turns us into an exciting, dangerous team in the short term, what’s the value of an intangible like that if it really steps us hard toward a premiership?
The problem with waiting for the 2024 trade period is that you’ve just moved the dangling carrot again.
Martin is a match winner, a difference maker, an attractive proposition for crowds etc. He’s all of that now and those opportunities just don’t come very often for us. Last year Adelaide...
I feel like this year we did plenty of moaning (and rightly so) about our lack of a constant dangerous threat up forward (Rankine). Or the lack of silky delivery into the forward line.
We must really not want one that ticks both of those boxes and at the same time would be a genuine marquee...
I reckon you overpay for Dusty. You probably overpay for any of a few puzzle pieces that are hard to find – should have for Rankine in hindsight too.
It might backfire, you might get decent output for one year, you might get three years but he's perhaps the biggest match-winner of his...
I assume they may have all agreed, but the AFL would also have weighed in post Collingwood and post Port matches. The could never actually say, "yeah that thing that changed was a bit more pressure from the AFL".
I reckon it’d be a similar state of expectation to what Voss walked into at Carlton. They turned on him pretty quickly in his second year when it looked poor.
The expectation that we’re close – maybe Dusty roaming the forward line and a decent KPD makes the difference.
A Hardwick/Dusty package probably gives us a nice marketing angle too.
If we are actually in a selection process I guess Josh Carr has to be looked at too. But I reckon Hardwick gets the AFL push into the job.
This is the truth, it's as big or small as this. There had to be a bigger effort for Rankine, the hardest type of player to find anywhere in any draft or trade. I'd love to know the workings of those conversations but I imagine Dew would have been cluey enough to know he needed Rankine to...
He won them when he won them, and was the last to do it at different clubs (some very big names couldn’t).
He’s not alone thinking the head coach is overrated, Wayne Carey recently said similar. Love him or hate him, he knows what goes into winning a big game.
The coaching thing confuses the hell out of me. I have no idea how important they actually are but I suspect it’s more important to have the team around them right. And maybe it’s true that one guy might have the right stuff to get part way there while another has the edge to go higher. I don’t...
No way, he was on late in the third, and we were five points down a minute into the last quarter. The game should have been still alive.
Berry just didn’t impact the game at all. A sub should be fresh enough to at least do something.
This is it. Two weeks ago the Nicks thread on the Adelaide board was quite vibrant, mostly calling for his head (who woulda thunk other boards are just like our own).
A bit of confidence and they look entirely different.
I wonder if Uwland is the one to push Macpherson out (eventually). If he gets off to a nice start he has the attributes.
When Powell and Weller get back it could be Uwland that stays with those two rather than Constable and Macpherson.
Or is that too optimistic?
I think Casboult finds himself back to his original role pretty quick – ‘break glass in case of emergency’ for Ben King.
King, Chol, Jeffrey, Lukosius should be enough in any situation.
I turned up and saw the end of the time trial from the car as I parked. It looked like the bulk of the squad was in that 6 to 6-and-a-half range with only one or two over 7 minutes (and only by a bit). Last year there was half a dozen well over 7 minutes.
I think there’s general improvement...
I do, and didn’t see it as deception. Cheeky for sure – both the club and Rowell would have been willing participants and aware of what dots the audience might have joined.
I’m betting the contract is a done deal.
Yet when the sh$t hit the fan they both had lovely, manicured, well-lawyered responses released within 12 hours 🤔
Would seem that 24 hours was more than enough to deny the allegations.
I think that’s fair, you give much more than that and wealthy, well connected dudes are going to get all the lawyering manipulation they need to shut a lot of stuff down. It quickly becomes unbalanced the other way.
Faaark, this thread quickly turned into the reactionary bs that game day always does halfway through the first quarter.
Not one person has any clue what a deal would actually look like, who or what would come back, or even if such a deal exists outside of a media report.
Cool your jets people!
