Review Round 3, 2024 - Brisbane Lions vs. Collingwood

Bit further than I went there. I felt that we went in too tall, and it was a 50/50 game before that, so value wise was worth putting a few bucks on. I did not say we are cooked and the run is over. We are out of form. This can be rectified and doesn't happen overnight. Even then, it was a close...

Review Round 3, 2024 - Brisbane Lions vs. Collingwood

Not really, it was drier than forecasted... But by 3/4 time, I dare say most people were still, like me, suggesting Hipwood/Fort off, Lohmann on.

Review Round 3, 2024 - Brisbane Lions vs. Collingwood

Ima be honest. Collingwood were $3.05 and we named an extra tall when it'd rained all week. I put a few bucks on the Pies to win.

Game Day Round 1, 2024 - Fremantle vs. Brisbane Lions

I feel like it's a bit more acceptable to whinge about the umpiring this loss... mostly just because it doesn't even need to be said that it isn't a cop out. It's so obvious that we have sucked and deserve the loss. The umpiring sucking is not even arguably related.

Game Day Round 1, 2024 - Fremantle vs. Brisbane Lions

This is not to excuse the pathetic effort from our players. Loss well and truly earned... but far out the umpiring is atrocious.

Game Day Round 1, 2024 - Fremantle vs. Brisbane Lions

The problem with Lachie Neale giving us a serve in the media is that he isn't out there. If you want to give your team a serve in the media, you have to back it up. Take a swing then take a week off and it isn't brave, it's hit and run.

This is a crucial point. The academies are working. They're actually doing what they were strategically designed to do. In what other business do you design a strategy, see it do exactly what you hoped it would do, and then say "hmm... let's cut it".

Women's Footy Preliminary Final, 2023 - Brisbane Lions vs. Geelong

There's just no such thing as a F50 free kick. 50m penalty to go inside 50 exist, but only if you're wearing hoops.

That is a lot of turnover... but looking at it, we lost a whole bunch of players who didn't step foot on a field in 2023. So I'm pretty happy with that. Sad to see Rich go, but definitely time. And Doedee in more than compensates... so it's a small gain overall, which is about all you can hope...

A Steve Conole special. We didn't get one of those last year - last one was Jimmy Tunstill. The definition of a free hit. If it works, great. If it doesn't, nothing lost. WA were a little more underwhelming - couple of big losses at the Champs, so it might have depressed a few player values...

Logan Morris - undersized KPF Luke Lloyd - undersized KPF Zane Zakostelsky - KPD When you start in the 30s, it's a risk. Take a couple of shots, see how they go. May as well. After Carter, am I correct in saying we still have 1 more senior list spot if we want it? I can't remember. So could...

We all know it's playing style, not ability level. And yes, they have to use the big names... if they told me we were picking up a Marcus Windhager type, I'd not even know what position he was playing.

30+39 for 24 and our F2. So we'd upgrade 30 to 24. And then we'd upgrade 39 to 36ish. Generally in a trade you have to give them something (Yes, I'm aware of GC points needs this year... it's still ridiculously lopsided). F3 much more likely.

Coach Fages and the coaching group

Funnily enough, realistically, like everything else, it will take all sorts. Relational coaches, tactical coaches, coaches who have struggled and progressed, coaches who know how to get to the elite level... all of the above and more... each player will benefit from different influences. I do...

Honestly, I think that's been a substantial reason we've kept Lester on the books for so long. It's been noted how much tape he does with the youngens. Avoid the soft cap, keep him on the list.

Coach Fages and the coaching group

Yep, should've actually looked up stuff. True, Tapping was replaced by Bruce. Experience for experience. Reasonable. It was Littlejohn for Morris, and you're right, Morris did go straight in as a development coach for a year before he was fired and worked as a salesman for 2 years. Then we...

Coach Fages and the coaching group

Lloyd comes from another system where he was a player. He has no coaching experience. I don't care who taught him, it doesn't make him a teacher. I thought we'd moved away from the correlation between playing ability and coaching ability. Tapping left 2 years ago. He was the start of the...

No, you can't call Morris an in unless you also call him an out. Im not following the "recently retired players are a good thing" logic. Can you explain how replacing Tapping, Stone and Adcock (3 experienced coaches) in 2 years with Morris, Lloyd, and 0.5xRich (2.5 coaches with zero coaching...

Spread the cash - agreed. Losing 1 headcount was a reasonable step based on that. Our headcount was already lower than most clubs, but ok. Keep our elite coaching panel together - you'll need to back that up. We have 4 of 7 (or 8 if you count Tapping) from before covid. How is that keeping the...

Yep, it is usually a first step, agree. Also agree that he's not going to contribute strategically, especially in his first season. Doesn't change the fact that it's out Adcock, Stone. In untried rookie. I understand dropping a role. That made sense. Dropping 2 experienced coaches and picking...

No coaching experience. No leadership experience. Has played for a different team, but not exactly experienced at developing other players, coming up with strategies, sharing at a coaching level, etc. So, we went for Selwood. I dont think we've done that since maybe Matt Maguire. Our team usually have the odd project they like in the 3rd or 4th round. Usually someone we've never heard of, someone who has a trait but hasn't put it all together yet. Perfectly fine to take a long shot. They dont all have to pay off...

They are choosing to play football. They aren't sewing footballs in a prison camp. They can quit any time they like, and take up landscaping, bricklaying, or any other job they like. This is not a great imposition on their freedom.

We'll have to talk about how Collingwood are favourites for the premiership for the 24th season running... This is basically how the EPL works, except that even in the EPL you can't sign a bosman until you're 23. Results for the Premier League era (1992-present): Winner was Man C, Man U...
