Id prefer the combined Last Post & anthem be limited to matches on Anzac day.
I dont have a problem with the national anthem for the opening round. It's the opening bounce of a new season for the league and its clubs. And the anthem for all post season matches should remain. It certainly...
25 pages, eh?
On the cusp of the (real) start of a new season, and BF's sensationalist whores are more interested in this s**t. From the headline i've read, he's not an AFL player, it's not a new development in the life of this bloke, and wont be the last time a bloke does rugs or is caught...
I'd prefer football go back to scheduling most games over one or two days than spreading it out even further. I barely keep up with 2-3 matches a round as it is. Watching footy or the tele over 4 days and all weekend is a serious waste of ****in time, IMO. Condense it, can plan time to get into...
Bingo.
The membership number gives clubs the ammunition to take to existing and potential sponsors, or other corporate partners with regard to the reach that their direct membership material and any associated advertising will have. Whether it's a full 11-game, a 3-game, an interstate, etc...
First of all, you lot need to quit the media-type antics and stop quoting out of context. our friend cos is an expert at that too.
with most of those abbreviations you've listed, the actual names have lost their meaning in some respect. as i mentioned in the same paragraph of the sentence you...
are you saying the names 'Sydney' or 'Fremantle' are as long-winded as 'Greater Western Sydney'?
I'll only ever refer to them in conversation as Giants because the full name is a joke.
Official abbreviations are useful in written form for schedules, standings, lists, scoreboards...
you're my problem. what's your bay and seat. i'm going to sort you out at the dockers game. ;)
as Mr J_Moore correctly pointed out, the AFL & the Giants could've done without the long winded name, and one that constantly needs abbreviation.
If you live OS, I say it's pointless picking a team. Enjoy the game by all means, but if you can't go to games and really contribute and immerse yourself in gameday as a regular supporter, then what's the point?
I really enjoy the NFL, more than the AFL to be honest, but I find it difficult...
2/3 of that crowd figure were red & whites.
the interest for the first match was always going to be there. it's the rest of the season that will be interesting.
the abbreviation of 'GWS' is already pissing me off. it's going to be used in 99% of discussions and articles regarding this team...
apart from Goodes, the rest of them dont have the presence in Sydney as some of the blokes who are gone, despite them being around for a long time now. the two GF years helped with that. if the red & white can live up to the promise of a prelim final or other heroics this post season, then...
most posters arent noticing Syd's ;)
all Swans fans are for the Sydney Giants to grow their base out in the LGA's and region of western sydney. overtime, they may end up with a supporter base of the ferality (sic) of Collingwood and Richmond if they can really attract fans from the guts of...
the joint had to be demolished and rebuilt after the Olympics if it were to serve rectangular sports properly. it didnt matter if the AFL tipped in to enable football configuration, it was always going to be a s**t venue because the east and west stands were always going to remain where they...
Retirement and/or leaving of players such as Hall, O'Loughlin, Kirk, etc who were very identifiable in Sydney may have contributed to it. Most Swans players are really no-names in Sydney.
Murray's got a pretty tough quarter of the draw and could very much end up with Berdych in the QF at the end of it, although he seems to have been out of form.
The draw has swapped the 3 and 4 seeds for this event, so should the big 4 get through to semis, fed gets joker, murray gets nadal.
FMD!
You do realise it's just the Giants training facility that is located in the LGA of Blacktown. It's not even in the suburb of Blacktown, it's in Rooty Hill.
Blacktown is just one of a hundred suburbs, within one of 14 LGA's, that AFL are targeting with the Giants.
Dockers and Eagles got theirs up and firing immediately. just as much about being the best head-to-head within the region as it was about football in the greater sense.
A regional rivalry will always has more sting in it than any other.
no it wasnt good. it just seemed that way because there was really no growth in the business. players were still receiving a pittance, playing as semi-pros training at night and earning another wage during the day.
a business that cant sustain itself from its own operations and needs to be...
Rivalry? It was more like free love festival last night from the Swans supporters POV. Rather than the 'us against them', they're not our friend' mindset Roos was promoting a couple of years ago, Swans supporters around me last night were largely embracing the Giants as their 2nd team.
and what's your point?
you've admitted (albeit not intently) that the ARL/NRL and it's clubs are average at best at operating their business. and as a supporter of both codes, I agree.
I've noticed that when AFL crowds in Sydney dont reach their ambitious targets, the next best thing is to compare it to the NRL.
If the Swans were getting just under 30k to the SCG last year, this match gets 39k, account for a few first timers for the event (and a few whingers around me who...
great comeback.
did you totally ignore his reasoning. I agree with him, under most of the circumstances the game should have attracted 60k.
The thing that destroyed it was it being well-known that the Giants would be uncompetitive.
How many new supporters did this game attract...
4 things pissed me off tonight, and will be pissing me off in future re the Giants and the rivalry.
1. the regular reference to 'GWS'. Why not call them Sydney Giants or Western Sydney Giants and get rid of this ridiculous abbreviation which is going to blight this sport in every conversation...
The Olympic Stadium is a poor stadium for all sports. The east & west stands are in the same position theY were in for the Olympics, and would still be no matter whether the AFL ponied up for football configuration. All it's got going for it is it's capacity with 1/2 of it lucky to be even...
