Strategy Trade and List management Thread Part 6 (opposition supporters - READ posting rules before posting)

I'd be happier to sign Jamarra to 2 years rather than 4. Once he hits free agency the offers will be through the roof because teams won't have to trade and we'll only get free agency compensation which will be peanuts with the Tasmanian team concessions. At least after 2 years teams will still...

Strategy Trade and List management Thread Part 6 (opposition supporters - READ posting rules before posting)

I've mentioned it previously but it's an opportunity for us to try to manipulate the free agency compensation like so many other clubs have done. Let's say we intend to give Duggan 3 million over 5 years. We make the offer 2 million over 2 and suddenly West Coast gets a free pick immediately...

    Training 2024 Pre-season training

I don't mind if the plan is to start English in the ruck then have him drop a kick behind the ball and have one of Lobb or Darcy come up and ruck around the ground. I think the way the game is being played at the moment having an extra player intercepting rather than playing around the ball is...

Strategy Trade and List management Thread Part 6 (opposition supporters - READ posting rules before posting)

Duggan would make the English situation interesting. If we offered a short band 1 worthy contract to Duggan with the intention of extending on lesser money ala Joe Daniher, then West coast would potentially get pick 2 as compensation but they would lose that if they signed English as a free...

Draft Review 2020 - Revisit the 2020 AFL Draft

Yeah I'm not sure where it's come from Jamara played for our development squad from the first year the NGAs were set up too.

So much better than the usual meaningless slow mo, speed up, zoom in, zoom out rubbish we usually get.

How do you rate our draft haul?

If they wanted Leake with their later pick and thought we would take him it would make sense. It seems that some clubs try to leverage not bidding into favorable trades as well so we may have had clubs telling us they would bid early trying to orchestrate trades.

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2023/11/30/ranking-the-young-cores-of-all-18-afl-clubs-in-2024/ These types of lists are always very speculative but it's a bit of a lazy list IMO. Port no way near 3rd. Their best 3 is great but pretty speculative after that. Collingwood is also too high. They have...

Would have liked to keep a list spot open so we could have tried to get some of these boys playing at Footscray in the hopes of a mid season lifeline.

Which clubs are in the most trouble age profile wise? - 2024 edition

There's only one top 10 drafted player there and not really many first rounders. Hard to get really elite players outside top 10. Geelong are obviously very good at finding diamonds in the rough and develop players well but it still is a hurdle to overcome.

List Mgmt. Next Generation Academy List

The problem with this is that matching a pick 1 bid costs the same as matching a pick 17 bid. It's really not that different from the old system of using your next pick. I like the idea of giving clubs different amounts of bidding points based on where they finish. Then have an auction style...

List Mgmt. Next Generation Academy List

Is that what the objective of the Northern Academies is? When the academies started I believe the justification was that Northern Clubs couldn't compete with southern clubs because all of the draftees were coming from the southern states and the 'lure to go home' meant that retention was a...

Which clubs are in the most trouble age profile wise? - 2024 edition

The problem with just looking at statistics is the difference in the quality of the young players on the list and the reliance on the older players. Geelong is 5th in terms of young talent but most of them would have been picked up late in the draft and they still rely heavily on their older...

It's also possible that they knew his heritage but had never got the documents to prove it. Don't know the exact details.

List Mgmt. Next Generation Academy List

So we get access to any player of any ethnicity in our zone :P They really are going to have to change the Northern Academies soon. They have done a good job but the amount of talent that Gold Coast and Brisbane are getting priority access to at the moment will eventually unbalance the...

List Mgmt. Next Generation Academy List

We were lucky/smart in obtaining the region that we did for our NGA. Some teams have sections of the NT as part of their zones so running programs in those areas is a challenge. It was honestly just such a half baked idea when it was introduced and the constant changing of the rules just...

List Mgmt. Next Generation Academy List

I don't think that's quite how it plays out. We have non eligible players playing in our development teams to help get enough numbers and I don't think players need to prove their indigenous heritage to be included. I believe Sanders played in their NGA teams the issue was just around him...

Welcome to the Bulldogs Joel Freijah

If love to hear what Souup thinks too. One thing all the draft watchers have said was that it was incredibly even after the first 15 or so picked so there could be a huge variance in where different recruiters saw each prospect and things like list needs and personality fits might have come...

    Training 2024 Pre-season training

Good effort by the first year boys. I was thinking Sanders was looking a little chonky in this photo but it doesn't look like the weight is slowing him down. Just a solid unit. Actually reminds me a little bit of Dane Swan with the powerful build, little steps and big tank.

    Training 2024 Pre-season training

I'm not so sure about that. He was pretty inconsistent last year from the bits and pieces I've seen. Could look a million bucks one week (6 goals) but other games a bit scrappy and unsure. It's probably just a confidence or preparation thing and also just knowing when to go in as an outside...

Strategy Trade and List management Thread Part 6 (opposition supporters - READ posting rules before posting)

I hope they send Keath forward, have Gardiner Full back, Croft CHB and Buss intercepting. Need to get Croft and Buss ready to step into defence in a year or two and Gardiner ready to come into the AFL team if needed. That said Croft might not be physically ready for a key post but playing him on...

How do you rate our draft haul?

O'Driscoll had stress fractures in his back at the combine so will have to let that repair but shouldn't take too long by reports. I'm sure the club will be very conservative though.

    AFLW AFLW/VFLW 2024 - General Discussion

I haven't been keeping up with the changes around player contracts but if it's still the same as it used to be, one of the biggest issues is that, outside of the 'marquee' players, everyone else was on a fixed price one year contract. So basically you could be the third best player at a bottom...

How do you rate our draft haul?

The half forward in the modern game plays more like a wing anyway. The Steven Milne type player who stays deep crumbing goals is a thing of the past. At least until the game changes again McComb was brought in after Melbourne ripped our midfield a new one in the Grand Final. I think the idea...

Welcome to the Bulldogs Jordan Croft

I think that's the plan. Key defenders usually play 100% game time and he has elite endurance coupled with speed that would allow him to keep up with the more explosive forwards. At 200cm and with a good leap he should be able to get a spoil in on the taller forwards and he attacks packs well...
