I'f we've just got money sitting there I don't care if Martin gets money for 2020 but I'm thinking 2021 - I sure as hell don't want to be paying him 1 million in 2021.
There are plenty of players that we can target in 2021 that would bring more to the team than a half committed Jack Martin
Well we've had Ellis, Greenwood come to our team this year
Brad Crouch may or may not have been interested.
Who's to say with an improved year - 6+ wins, some of our youngsters breaking out - that we don't have other out of contract (or still in contract) players lining up to come (ala carlton...
There are a lot of good players OOC end of next year
Grundy, De Gory, Brad Crouch, Luke Ryan, Mitch Duncan, Lachie Whitfield, Bayley Fritsch, Jayden Short, Jack Steele, George Hewett, Hayden Crozier just a handful of them.
If we improve and people consider us a viable destination - I want to...
Went 0/3 in game 3
8 points on 10 shots, 0 FTs, 4 boards, 3 assists, 2 steals
Pretty nice start in his first 3 games. Would have taken that at the start of the season.
Would love him to aim for ~14 points, 5 boards, 2.5 assists, 1 steal, 35% from 3. Get to the line for ~3 Ft per game.
Another originally from Melbourne realising the coast is a better lifestyle.
Originally from Frankston, anyone know where he’s been playing since delisted?
Did Trent rivers even get picked in the top 30?
Don’t think I heard his name at all.
Twomey really doesn’t rate Gould. Was talking about adelaides key defensive stickd at pick 24 or something, was thinking here he goes - picks de koning instead.
How long would APS have had AFL? Maybe 5 years?
I guess they look to separate it from Rugby Union season as there may be a significant cross over in participants?
Especially Collins?
We got him for free, he's been here a year, and he played every game when fit in the 1sts.
I highly doubt he wouldn't re-sign if we've got a contract in front of him.
He was decent but not world beating in the 10 games he played, so he can hardly go demanding a huge contract...
Do you think pick 25 and 45 (Carlton marginal improvement) or pick 30 and 50 (Carlton significant improvement) Is consistent with the contract offered?
His last 2 years have been worth s**t all, he was very good for 5 weeks and then just gave up.
He is obviously valued enough to be offered 700k by the bulldogs and a significant contract by Carlton.
My thoughts on trading in general.
If you are trading, regardless of what a player is ‘worth’...
Im just reading directly off the afl website.
I forgot every Carlton fan has a direct line to SOS and has been emailed a copy of martins contract which they are quoting from.
Agree with you that no one will know if he is worth the contract until the end - although suspect you’ll have an inkling after year 1-2.
I’m still waiting for your source reporting bulldogs offering 4/5 years at 700k as you stated. Given I’m the one making things up to suit my story..
The...
agree with everything you said.
Crouch is not elite so wouldn't be paying through the nose for him.
No doubt he is a good player though - if we have someone like that wanting to come - I think we should try make it work at the right price.
A million a year is a pure joke.
Please see above post where it is identified Martin will be paid 'close to 650k over 5 years' afl.com.au Mitch Cleary.
Are there any sources for the length of the contract the dogs apparently offered?
I'm not actually sure what point you are making?
I don't think he chose Carlton because he...
IF we have a good year and Adelaide a down year - we're a real shot of getting him as a FA next year - you'd hope so anyway.
Definitely not worth that money he was asking.
Almost 2 healthy years out of 7.
i was just going of the reports from Michael Gleeson - the age who said it was more than 600k per year
and this report on afl.com.au from Mitch cleary which says "It is believed the five-year contract request is valued at close to $650,000 per season."...
In our situation a player like Ellis will be valuable on field.
Am I happy about his contract - hell no. I think he is worth about 400k. Would that extra 200k a year be nice if we are trying to re-sign other players - yes.
Yeah I got the years wrong with Martin. His last year will be his age...
how many years?
If they were offering 700 for 3 compared with 600-650k for 5 - I know what I'd be going for.
An extra million in guaranteed money is a no brainer.
You have no idea what the incentives are so please stop making stuff up. I doubt incentives would give an additional ~35% on the base wage. Have no idea what the incentives are - might be to play 82.5% TOG, might be to kick 20 goals, might just be playing 20+ games - who knows how likely or not...
Josh Green had a very nice game - particularly with his shooting.
20 points (7/13 from field, 4/7 from 3, 2/2 from line) + 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 0 turnovers.
His PG Nico Mannion - also highly rated looks a passing gun so could really boost Greens stats across the year.
Now averaging
15...
Should we look at some talented players that are in that 14-22 player range for Carlton
Fisher, O'Brien etc..
If Carlton can afford to pay Cripps 1 mil +, Curnow, Mckay, Walsh, Docherty, Martin all 600-800k + SPS, Dow, Kruezer, Mcgovern, Plowman at 400 - 600k (all speculation)
Maybe guys like...

Greenwood 350-400k per year for 3 years with a games trigger (read team option) for the 4th
You're inflating his contract by ~50% by saying he...
So the Martin deal is 1+ million for the first year and 3+ million over 5 years.
>600k per year.
It's a big investment to make in the hope he becomes a good player.
Doesn't strike me as the guy producing 600k type value when he is 30 years old.
