Huge statement. Would be profoundly impactful if he did.
I'd be happy if he plays 15+ games and kicks 25+. Anything more is a bonus and I'd absolutely love to see it!
Is in a very small group of players we simply must retain to build a Top 4 team in the initial Clarkson contract: LDU, Larkey & McKay, maybe also Simpkin.
These are the four.
McDonald for me. Also seems to fit Clarkson's mould - very Hodge like operator on the field.
Simpkin certainly appears to have the attributes, and would make a sound Vice-Captain, but McDonald just feels like the type you'd run through a brick wall for. Also, when fit, in our Best 5 players...
1. Carey
2. Harvey
3. Stevens
I think after that it gets very subjective, and subject to nostalgia or recency bias, as well as position bias.
Rucks - McKernan or Goldstein? Or neither?
Backs - Does Archer or Martyn make it?
Forwards - Longmire or Petrie?
Mids - Schwass, Grant and Bell or...
Yep - fair call.
McKay is the answer for FB (not a great start on Lewis today, but he has many credits in the bank). McDonald is a very, very good half back. Jury is out on Corr (big year for him), and Turner is okay as a BP stopper. Definitely unclear what the back six will look like in 18...
Just finished watching the game, immediate thoughts;
Ruck/Forward line
It'll be said many times this week - but we can't play Goldstein, Xerri and Coleman-Jones. I'd drop CCJ on that performance, and rotate Xerri/Goldstein ruck/forward.
Where was Larkey's work rate today? Unless it wasn't...
We're all a little heartbroken about this one, but he's earned our blessings.
Treat him well Tiges. A good chance of giving you a really strong season in 2022.
FIFO game in Adelaide, Round 23 with no ladder advancement available.
I'm not going to lose any sleep over the result. It's been great progress since the bye.
Looks like Watch AFL has just added it to their website, as the broadcast begins.
Glad I can watch it but seriously it is amateur hour with that service that people are searching for a solution up to an hour before the count.
After enjoying the 2018 count on the Watch AFL website (run by Fox, and supported/licensed by the AFL) I have noticed no sign of the Brownlow this year. On further investigation it looks like Foxtel won't be covering it at all - relying on Seven for the broadcast.
Quick question being - is...
He's been gifted a few in 2019, but thought his performance against Port was predominantly great forward craft (marking & ground level) and the most one sided midfield display in years.
On the topic of captains, it somewhat saddens me that Robbie Tarrant won't captain the club.
What we'd do for a 25 year old version of him coming through.
Anyone want to be playing a final against Collingwood at the MCG with this starting midfield next year?
Beams, Treloar, Sidebottom
Grundy, Pendlebury, Adams
Could even see De Goey build a tank in the pre-season and spend more time within.
If I had to pick a Round 1 team today;
Williams Tarrant Thompson
Vickers-Willis Daw Macmillan
Polec Jacobs Hall
Atley Wood Simpkin
Garner Brown Ziebell
R: Goldstein Cunnington Higgins
IC: Tyson, Dumont, Ahern, Anderson
Eme: Wright, Turner, McDonald
You want to move the most improved key backman in the AFL back to the forward line where he has been unable to make an impact for six seasons?
If Larkey can't get a crack after leading the VFL goal kicking we'd may as well delist him.
