A pretty inconsequential game in the context of the season, but my first game with my old man back in 1997 against Brisbane
Murphy saluting the pies cheer squad when we demolished them by 10 goals
Beating North by a point to keep our season alive back in 2013. I had tickets courtesy of someone...
I'd add the Giants and Port to that list.
They've only beaten GWS once out of the last 10 games, and only beaten Port twice out of the last 10. So they'd need to reverse some fairly one sided history there. For mine, those are the 5 teams that they really need to beat during the first half of...
Short answer, no.
It would require a 50% increase in wins (assuming 12 gets you into the finals) + percentage.
Haven't averaged more than 13 goals a game since 2014, either.
Conceeded 288 goals last season, which was second last only to North Melbourne.
Do I have hopes they'll improve? Of...
Teams that make the finals should be able to ‘loan’ players from clubs that didn’t. Not sure what the incentives for clubs outside the finals would be, however.
I don’t mind the idea of loaning players in general.
Head Coach - Mark Williams
Captain - Jacob Weitering
Ladder Finish - 9th
Best and Fairest - Lauchie Plowman
Star Recruit - Patrick Lipinski
Lead Goalkicker - Matthew owies (41) we should have a bigger spread of goal kickers.
Most Improved - Caleb Marchbank
If Carlton really feel they're only a new coach away from finals, spend the first two picks they have this year.
Because this is bigfooty. There's no room for multiple trains of thought from some supporters.
Ah yes, the draft. Of which we have 3 picks this year.
Going off your recommendations, we're at minimum delisting or retiring 11 players, about a quarter of our list. Sound strategy there.
Do I think that every player on our list is AFL calibre? Of course not. But overhauling a list this...
The bold is why I'm glad you're not our list manager. Among other things,
You're cutting a ruckman from an already shallow selection.
You're assuming a KPF at age 25 will only sign for 3 years.
Delisting a co-captain? Granted, he's having a down season. Is that worthy of delisting, though...
I have a lot of Richmond friends, seeing the tigers win hasn't been great but at least they're not moping around when it comes to football anymore.
I've enjoyed seeing Essendon spin the wheels the last few years. Only team I don't like. Everyone else is fine by me.
Oh 100%. What it comes down to at the end of the day. It also doesn’t consider a shortened season. If Saad is only worth 1 extra win over a 22 game season, is he worth pick 7? I would give a second for him. If memory serves that’s what we gave up for doc?
It’s also easier to influence a sport when there are only 9 spots on the field as opposed to 18. I agree- war doesn’t seem applicable here. But I guess AFL clubs see merit if they’ve been interested for 7 years.
It’s too raw atm to be accurate as in baseball. It’s numbers based. So it doesn’t look at the whole picture.
The AFL website also said that it uses their player ratings to help develop these WAR’s. General defenders baseline is 8.1. (I’m assuming rating points per game).
Saad averaged 10.56 RP...
It’s a baseball metric known as wins above replacement. Essentially, it takes a player from a position, and compares them to an ‘average’ player from the same position. The higher the WAR, the better they are at their position.
But 22 games is too small a sample size imo. It works in baseball...
I’ve always found the whole ‘no flags’ argument lazy. I’m in my late 20’s, so it’s fair to say I can remember the last 20 seasons. Too young for 95, so I don’t count it.
We have 5 winning seasons (above .500). 5.
Freo in that time have 7.
The gap between our best and worst is too large, that...
The premise of the thread is fine, no issues there. But this being bigfooty, always descend into shitposts- particularly if one team has a bad week.
FWIW, I think Carlton fell over the line too many times this year and expect to see them finish with 9 wins next year.
If you count the off-season, our longest streak in the 2010’s was 258 days. (August 5th, Round 20, 2018 loss to GWS & 20th April, 2019, the next day we beat Footscray).
Rewatched the game today and noticed that our possession coming from the back half was rushed. Doc not having the ball didn't have that much to do with disposal, the heat map showed that all our rebounds came from the outskirts of the oval. St. Kilda did really well congesting the middle of the...
If they haven't done so already, I feel the AFLPA will push for x amount of days with contact training like the NFL. They'll probably set up a trust in order to assist those affected by repetitive head tremors, particularly their families if they're struggling to pay for medical bills.
I'm assuming it's for prior members who've let their memberships elapse. Friend of mine hasn't renewed in five years and got one, so assuming they're reaching out to entice people back in.
