every team is susceptible to high level pressure. Its not just that. Its missing targets off the backline (blakey being a prime example given just how good his kicking can be) which could convert pressure into space up the field. I dont think hawthorn are as good at this but if, under pressure...
These guys don’t grow on trees. North got the best state league player, one Toby pink and he’s struggling. We reached for hamling and Francis in recent years.
There’s not a lot out there
This was what it was against Essendon as well. And port absolutely showed them for the pretenders they are. Our last three weeks have been genuine mid table level
Most on this site, the media and I suspect more than a few players thought they were contenders in March. It’s a long slog from here...
I like florent - he’s become reliable but reliable in a one to two missed kicks in space per match.
I wonder whether his career went where he expected as a super elusive mid who slipped forward to kick goals to a lockdown half back back pocket.
It’s funny because that’s how I see melican. I see and magnify the two or three times he goes to spoil and misses with his opponent left untended and think to myself oh dear not again.
Whereas you see him as the 98 times in a 100 he does the right thing
Happy to go to the bye with a win. Not much else. The last eight quarters and much of the Essendon game were poor.
I don’t like the three tall forwards I’d prefer to get another runner in the forward half
I think the midfield needs a lot of work and rampe is a huge loss
Hmm well I disagree
think they are trying to flick the ball forwards all the time and they miss.
On top of this they miss the steadying of rampe in the backline and it’s really heeney or bust in the midfield. And I hate having the talks in the forward line.
It’s really only Warner that...
That’s just not true. They are playing like millionaires as they did for much of the match against Essendon.
They try to go through the corridor by hand all the time and they are so predictable because of it
Blakey kicking the ball to his opponent is a skill error. Missing shots in the first...
He feels like a guy who was criticised for being sucked to the ball when he was learning the role and now obsessively holds width and stays with a man but then just gets caught repeatedly doing neither one thing or the other
I gave up on him after the north game last year - most of us who...
If Essendon were better last week they might have got us on this as well. We had a lot of sloppy possessions and turnovers in midfield that we managed to recover but could easily have led to scores
The handball happy run forward style is definitely open to scores on turnover if you miss the...
Coupled with our worst often takes place on the ground where the grand final is played (mind you I remember a game under Roos where we played the saints at the scg and they absolutely belted us and where spider Everett was twirling the ball around in his hand)
Fancy getting to the point where vlastutin is beating you without rance or grimes. How does a coach permit this ? And if there was a strategy which players failed to execute ?
I’ve never seen the pressure there. Didn’t see it in 2014, 2016 and 2022 with buddy as one of the talls.
Certainly won’t see it with anartey McDonald and McLean. Maybe it’s the mcg who knows but it doesn’t work very often there.
The first five minutes of this game showed a team going at about 70% thinking they were just going to cruise it in. Super sloppy and it never stopped being sloppy. Arguably fix kicking the goal on half time was counter productive because they went into the rooms thinking they could just turn it...
One of my genuine hates in modern footy is the sling tackle rule - until the afl decides to make umpires blow the whistle quickly when a players is tackled it’s not unreasonable for a player to try and make the ball player unable to dispose it.
Giving a free to Richmond when he spins around...
Personally I’ve thought for a long time that the afl should penalise the tackler if they dump the player into ground after winning the free. And if someone did that to me I would regard them as fair game thereafter - they’ve already got the free just go and kick the ball now
I know pink wasn’t strong but how is that a player can put two hands in the back and push and that’s not a push in the back but someone can run down someone and fall into the back and that’s. A push ?
