I'll be looking for the umpires giving Toby fairer assessment on free kicks. It seemed the case in the Manuka praccy match. Now he's AA captain, they have to reconsider. Is the Toby Tax over?
It feels like a proper footy club these days with great age demographic and competition for spots, and players that have done a proper apprenticeship in the 2's really stood out, Brown, Buckley, O'Halloran.
It's a treat that we still get to see Cal Ward running around with his pigeon chest and...
Once the players are in pre-season training, their respective draft number is immaterial.
Caruso targetted those 2 and succeeded.
James Leake will keep Isaac Cumming and Harry Perryman honest, Gothard will do the same for the small forward fleet.
How do they rate last years pick Max G? Will they...
What Finn has over Oliver is precision kicking. Oliver is great with his hands, but his bomb kicking detracts: hence, I feel he's a tad over-rated. But we do need to replace Wardy this year or next.
List weaknesses
Age related;
Callan Ward, Lachie O'Keefe.
Ability related;
Ryan Angwin, Jacob Wehr, Conor Stone (?)
Projected downturns after playing above and beyond this year. That is to say, after fantastic years, isn't it realistic to project they might'n do it 2 years running;
Toby Greene...
I would look for a mobile second ruckman/ swingman, to be a Lachie Keefe upgrade. If Cadman comes on, and Riccardi could back-up ruck, then that might work. Maybe it could be Elliot Himmelberg.
Agree with all the above. Maybe let Angwin & Fleeton settle for a few more games. Angwin might use his pace on drier grounds, maybe. Agree Pez has been subdued.
If further proof was needed that the AFL is really the VicFL, Access All Areas, the flagship review of the weekends action on AFL website, neglected to review Giants V Brisbane in any way. It's obvious that out of sight from Victoria is out of mind.
Nah c'mon, no negative scenarios tonight. As Cadman gets better, and Jesse flips the yips and kicks straight, HH will be our 3rd tall.
It's the smalls that are an issue.
Peatling and Lloyd have been OKish role players, but the modern small is fast, hard and skilful. Bedord, Daniels and Jones...
I'm looking for incremental gains in Lachie Ash's games. He carries a lot of responsibility for a young player.
One, he's designated for kick-ins. Two, he & Whitfield are the creative agents from half-back. The 'Tsunami' relies on those 2 for a lot of play. Maybe Pez could do it better because...
The back line looks a tad small perhaps. If Taylor's taking McKay, that leaves Idun on Curnow, and Haynes on Silvagni? I expect HH to play back this week. Hopefully Lek will be fit soon to bolster height without losing pace (Davis, Keefe)
Congratulations on Leek and Wehr getting spots in the starting line-up. Wehr has looked very composed in his games last year.
One contrast between Giants and Crows line-ups is across half forward.
Giants have two old dogs of war, Lloyd and Ward, Crows have Rachelle and Keays.
And finally, it's a...
I'm hoping Riccardi gets first dibs at CHF, and not Cadman. #1 pick invites blanket media inquest, neither Ugle Hagan or Darcy have started straight up at the Dogs. Jake has never quite been at the races, (playing on a wing!!), but give him a go to see if anything happens in a quicker team.
"Despite the acquisition of Aaron Cadman, Harry Himmelberg is again training as a forward"
Journo getting a bit ahead of himself.
It took Ugle Hagen @ Bulldogs a full 2 years to start to play regularly, and then Darcy took a year to blood in backline.
Tough seeing Hopper in Tigers colours, on top of all the other essentials like Cameron, Treloar, Shiel etc...Other than Suns supporters, I don't think other teams, certainly not Melbourne teams, have to constantly re-adjust their player loyalty like Giants fans need to.
I'm a bit dumb around all these trade machinations...
So if we're also open to moving on Haynes & Whitfield, is that because of one bad year they both had 2022, or because the club can't afford to have any future bad years for either of them?
If we're that desperate for salary cap space, it...
