Preview Rd 7 Geelong V Carlton Sat April 27 435 pm @ MCG

Losing Tom Stewart to concussion obviously will hurt us, but during his 4-week suspension in 2022, we comfortably beat Carlton, Melbourne and Port. We certainly can win without Stewart.

Review Geelong defeats Saints by 8 points

Just watched the highlights. Was surprised with how much red (Saints fans) I saw in the crowd, and how loud they were. Don't think I've ever seen a game at KP where the opposition team have had that much support. Almost felt like a neutral match-up at the MCG/Marvel.

    Injury 2023 injury thread

From Chris Scott's presser yesterday: Rhys Stanley has a hip/groin injury concern and could be in doubt for next week. Concerns also around Gary Rohan - he will have to be assessed.

    2023 Ladder Predictor

Remarkably, it's quite possible that we won't have to play any final outside of Melbourne this September. This is Squiggle's latest prediction of the ladder. This is probably the best case outcome from here.

Oppo Camp Non Geelong football (AFL) discussion 2023, part I

The recent flurry of losses for flag favourites (Brisbane losing to GC, Port losing 3 in a row, Collingwood losing to Carlton+Hawthorn) make me feel like this year has been a wasted opportunity for us. Sure, we had injuries in the first few months, but if we'd been hungry enough to finish...

    Injury 2023 injury thread

Surely we don't expect Hawkins to retire end of this year? He's been our leading goalkicker for the past 11 years (would have been 12 if he didn't do his hammy on Saturday). Furthermore, he's durable - between 2013-2023, Hawkins has played the 2nd most games of any AFL-listed player.

Autopsy Cats lose to Freo by 7 points.

Yeah. We’ve been poor all season, but a few bright glimpses (mostly against crap teams) and Chris Scott’s optimism has kept us all thinking that we are actually a good team. The reality is that we’re a bottom 10 team and have been all year.

Oppo Camp Non Geelong football (AFL) discussion 2023, part I

You have nothing to worry about. Tom DeKoning re-signed with Carlton a few days ago, so he won’t be coming to us!

Game Day Round 16, Sydney vs Geelong, Friday 30 June 7:50pm @ SCGT

no. Appalling football from Geelong has cost us.

Game Day Round 16, Sydney vs Geelong, Friday 30 June 7:50pm @ SCGT

The sad reality is that our players have just got much worse over the past 12 months. Even with almost all of our first-choice players available, we’re horrendous.

    2023 Ladder Predictor

Obviously we want to finish as high on the ladder as possible, but the other thing that we really want is for Adelaide to not make the top 8, because it opens up the risk of us facing them in Adelaide in week 1. If we do get through week 1, we’ll almost certainly have to travel for either the...

Oppo Camp Non Geelong football (AFL) discussion 2023, part I

Sydney are on track to increase their ladder percentage by 10% points (going from 98% to 108%) just from this belting of West Coast. Many other teams have benefited from this so far, and more will do so in the coming months, including many of the teams that we'll be fighting against for top 8...

Preview Geelong v Melbourne Thu Jun 22 720 pm @ GMHBA

No excuses this week. Apart from Danger and Guthrie, we have our best 22 available (although could argue that Esava is also in the best 22). Melbourne are missing Oliver and Tom McDonald, so that kinda evens it up.

    Injury 2023 injury thread

100% agree. Not only have we had lots of these super unlucky injuries that you can’t do anything to prevent, they’ve been dealt to critical players who we don’t have good replacements for: Stanley, Guthrie, De Koning, Danger.

Autopsy Port Downs Cats by 38

you want to phase Atkins out?! He was a poster boy of our 16 game winning streak last year and was 5th in the B&F. He’s only 27 years old, is durable and hasn’t been horrendous this year.

Autopsy Port Downs Cats by 38

Jeremy Cameron has gone from being the best player in the AFL (first two months), to now just being an average nobody (past 5 weeks). Initially thought it was just natural fluctuation in form, but it’s getting worrying.

Autopsy Port Downs Cats by 38

I’m not ashamed of losing to a top 2 form on their home deck, but I sure as hell am ashamed of how we just fell apart when challenged. Killed our percentage, which will be a big factor in making finals given how many teams there are in the middle of the pack.

Game Day Geelong V Port Thu June 15 @ AO 7:40pm AEST (710 pm AO time)

Yep agreed. It would have been acceptable if we’d lost a bunch of players and hadn’t brought any new ones in, but we only lost Sel and have brought in 3 new players who are either best 22 or very close to if.
  19. DV2000

What will happen first? Geelong finishing bottom 4, or Carlton finishing top 4?

This aged well - nice work champ

Preview Round 12: Bulldogs vs Cats, Sat 3 June @ 7:25pm - Superhero Stadium

If I’m not mistaken, it’s been at least 17 years since we lost 4 games in a row, but unfortunately it feels like that streak might come to an end tomorrow. Was hoping to be significantly closer to our Best 22 this week, but with only Rohan coming in, we’re still so far from it.

Preview Round 12: Bulldogs vs Cats, Sat 3 June @ 7:25pm - Superhero Stadium

2-3 weeks ago I would have completely agreed with this, but even making the top 8 is now in serious jeopardy. This is now a must-win clash.

Autopsy Cats lose to GWS by 7 points.

I haven't watched Chris Scott's press conference yet, but I'm guessing he said something like "I'm actually really optimistic about where we are at... just a few things to tweak and we'll be very hard to beat" as he's said for the past 3 weeks. Can anyone confirm?

Autopsy Cats lose to GWS by 7 points.

Yep, especially with the Saints, Dogs and Demons all losing unexpectedly this weekend.

Preview Round 11: Geelong vs Big Big Sound, Sat 27 May @ 4:35pm at KP

I think we just have to accept that we won't be making the top 4 this year, and instead we need to focus on getting our best 22 fit and firing for September whilst winning enough games to finish 5th/6th. Then from there, with a fit team and a little bit of luck, I'd back us to win all of our...

Season on the line next week

Last week I was pretty optimistic about our season and thought that we could come back from a poor opening 1-2 months and have a really good end to the season (like we did last year) to finish top 4, but my optimism has been shattered after our loss to Richmond and recent injuries. We have a...

Review Cats keep 20+ year Crows drought at KP going with 26 point win.

Sad to see Danger with a hamstring injury, but it’s lucky timing, because our next five weeks are: Richmond, Freo, GWS, Dogs, Bye. We should be able to win all of those without Danger. I wouldn’t be surprised if we gave him 5 weeks off and then let him go full-pelt for the 2nd half of the...

Preview Geelong V Essendon Sun Apr 30 1:10pm MCG - prob a country game

Good chance to keep our winning streak going for at least another 5 matches: Bombers: they'll be coming off a 5 day break and are still missing their number 1 forward (Peter Wright) Adelaide: at GMHBA Richmond: they've been poor recently and still missing a few key players, none bigger than Tom...

Preview Round 6 - Flag unfurling in GF rematch: Geelong vs Sydney, 22 April, 7:25pm @ HOME (KP)

It’ll be a disaster if we don’t beat Sydney this week - they are missing Buddy, Reid, Amartey, Hickey, Tom McCartin, Paddy McCartin, Rampe. That’s 6 of their talls plus an A-grade defender

Review Geelong beats Weagles by 47 points

The first half gave me hope that we can get back to our 2022 form sometime this year, but our second half was rubbish. West Coast are a crap team and have so many of their best 22 missing at the moment. The way they moved the hall with ease and scored heavily in the second half is worrying...
