Fair enough, but consider - it's been revealed this pitch has not been prepared as is traditional for this venue, which is becoming evident with the increasing amount of inconsistent bounce we saw yesterday and how often does a 6 for 20 collapse occur twice in the same test..?
Skimming over the past 10 or so pages I have not seen one comment even suggesting Australia can/perhaps will bowl out England cheaply during their 2nd dig, not one..?
I could be wrong, but it appears most have been seduced by the commentary box cheerleaders suggesting the hosts will simply chase...
While England may 'back themselves to chase down 350 runs', they did struggle to reach 200 in their first dig so I'm not so sure they'll do much better in their second, unless of course the pitch suddenly becomes a road offering an extra 150 runs...?
Accordingly I reckon anything around 250...
Kudos to commentators who are cleverly avoiding discussing the fact Australia are currently 'leading' the test match batting under sunny skies on an increasingly flatter pitch - after England chose to bowl first and then failed to surpass Australia's modest 1st innings total.....
I'm easily one of the more positive/optimistic posters in here - but unless England are 6 or worse down by lunch, with the sun blazing away, the green tinge dissappearing/pitch flattening out on a small fast ground it will require a speical effort for Australia to prevent England from achieving...
Sure, a lot of cricket to play here - and if the anyone in the commentary box threatned to even sound a little impartial someone would of mentioned in context that England's 1st innings here in 2019 amounted to a paltry total of 67 runs...!!!!
Concur, or at least still be batting at stumps - because on this quick relatively flat deck in the middle of a postage stamp size ground the hosts could score 500 here tomorrow...!
Beg to differ, very bold inserting Australia again as I reckon this looks a decent surface to bat on, sure there is a bit of green tinge but if Australia can get to lunch only 1 or 2 down then it coud easily be another 400 plus on the cards here....;)
Thing is Gough, Mr Morgan is no really different than most of the other media monkeys - topics are mainly irrelevant given they are simply employed to promote controversy and outrage....
Concur, so assuming Marsh replaces a sore/rested Green, accordingly Australia will have; 'Run-a-ball Head' at 5, 'Slogger Marsh' at 6 and 'Don't hang around Carey' at 7 - gee that has a very 'Bazball' feel about it, no...?
If Green is employed as a substitute fielder at gully, the Yorkies could invade the pitch..! Although and I maybe wrong, I'm pretty sure substitutes cannot field in primary positions, i.e. slips/bat-pad etc...?
Fair point LP - related, obviously Lyon is a significant loss and while Murphy maybe a capable replacement he is a bit of an unknown which does alter the overall balance of Australia's bowling attack/plans - accordindgly Australia will be reluctant to make too many other significant changes re...
When it's intentionally misinterpreted to support a false claim, yes - related from the asute and highly regarded scribe Gideon Haigh who reiterated recently;
"The 'spirit of the game' is actually codified in the rules ironically set out by the MCC, whereas in essence if a player's action is...
Apparently fast food franchises KFC, MacDonalds and Pizza Hut located in and around the Burleigh Waters area are in crisis meetings and may formally contact the Gold Coast Suns pleading with them to retain Stuart Dew's services - as his consequential lost patronage will severely impact their...
More outrage I suggest Plugger because, at the risk of stating the obvious, unlike's Bairstow's numerous previous attempts of the same, Carey's was successful and in doing so provided yet another example of a good test WK vs a poor one...;)
Dead Ball.
20.1.2 The ball shall be considered to be dead when it is clear to the bowler’s end umpire that the fielding side and both batters at the wicket have ceased to regard it as in play.
Which part of the above do the English players/media/supporters not understand...?
Related observation.
I and suggest most relish the Ashes rivalry and associated banter, moreover I would be almost disappointed if the English press didn't publish ther usual tabloid style musings - but it's the first time in living memory I recall the English players and coach as a unit...
I predicted Australia 3-1 before a ball was bowled a few weeks back with inclement weather contributing to one draw and I still reckon the hosts will snag a test....
Futhermore as Mr. Haig stated in a related interview on ABC insiders; ''the spirit of the game' is actually codified in the rules ironically set out by the MCC, whereas if any player's action is deemed to have controvened the spirit of the game the umpires can/will make descisons accordingly."...
To mediate - one of you is referring to 'retaining the Ashes' and with Australia the current holders a 'drawn series' will suffice.
While the other is referring to 'winning the series' which has not occurred in England for 22 years and this outcome also retains the Ashes.
Conversely England must...
Well according to their heavily promoted and self acclaimed 'Bazball' strategy, England should knock off 'these last few runs' by about tea today......
Agree in principle it was a 'harsh' decision and while you're entitled to your 'shocking' call, there have been many other claimed catches ruled not out when/if umpires determine the player did not fairly complete the catch and/or the ball was grounded.
Throwing the ball in the air upon (or...
The disallowed Starc catch seems harsh but in the act of catching the ball it 'must not touch the ground'.
Irrespective Australia, who have dominated this test, should take the remaining 6 wickets with Engalnd's only hope of saving the test (forget winning) being inclement weather....
