Loving the effort. Importantly the armwrestle won by the younger players with strong support from some of the new additions.
Bring that on Thursday and we can all be proud win loose or draw.
I reckon opposition midfields will notice the increase in our resistance in 2024 with Durham and Caldwell adding a lot of strength in there. Finally looking more difficult to play against.
Well done to the recruiting team too. We look like a better side with Goldy, McKay. Duursma and Gresham - all playing a strong role in the win tonight.
Winning an arm wrestle against a bogie opposition. Very impressed with the application tonight.
I thought Caldwell was pivotal in turning us around in the middle when we needed it.
I think I was most happy with Scotts appointment as he coaches effort based teams. I get the multitude of problems but if he can ingrain a culture of effort across the group we will be a long way down the path of recovery.
This will take 2 or 3 years IMO and whilst last night was disappointing...
I don't know a mate told me he focussed on it and Parish was mentioned. Here's the text message in full
..."Our players won't defend. Post game luke hodge talked through an example in the third quarter, called it laziness and said it happened the whole quarter. Not manning up and parish was one...
It was patchy and unconvincing but I wouldn't say it was poor by our standards (which was my measure).
Last night was what I expected against Sydney so I have that performance as good and Saints as good. Bulldogs next Friday will show our trajectory for the season IMO. And I am deeply fearful.
First poor performance of the year and we won't be the only side they get a hold of at home.
That said team defense still a real concern - apparently Hodge named names and Parish was mentioned which was hardly a surprise. A return of blue collar Essendon for next Friday please.
