I think this puts to bed any notion that Geelong plucked this guy from obscurity. We have been into him for years. Also the noise over the last couple of weeks that Freo were ever really an option. He was always coming to West Coast.
Geelong really have made out like bandits in all of this. In...
‘(i) At a National Draft Selection Meeting:
(A) each Club shall exercise a minimum of 3 Draft selections (including selections forfeited under Rules 8.7, 10.10(b), 12.4(b), 13.4(b) and 14.4(d)); and’
Answered my own question.
So currently we are in breach of the national draft rules.
We currently only have two selections in the national draft (52, 64). My understanding was all teams must take three selections in the national draft? Can someone confirm?
I can only assume that West Coast are now / have to trade back into the 2019 draft some how.
Sorry, I just don’t agree. $2m in revenue is noting to sneeze at for a not for profit sporting body that is subsidizing a bunch of clubs and looking to expand its men’s, women’s and grass roots competitions.
Also that number $2m is based on the assumption of 60k - 70k @ $55 per ticket...
I posted this in another thread but there is no way Gil gives up circa $2m revenue in forgone ticket sales to have the game in Geelong. Not to mention the additional food and beverage sales, tourism revenue traveling west coast fans bring to the state which doesn’t happen if the game is in...
Just to add to... that would be forgoing circa $1.5m - $2.5m in revenue from ticket sales alone. Not to mention food and beverage sales. If everyone of those 40k spend on average $15 that’s a further $600k.
That’s just bad business, and Gil isn’t a bad business man.
I can’t see it. There are to many West Coast Victorian Gold and Platinum members who are guaranteed seats to WCE finals in Victoria to have it in Geelong. It would violate our membership terms and conditions if those seats didn’t materialize and that only happens if the games at the G or marvel...
Yes according to linkedin Commerce major, UWA MBA and a little over three years consulting with 18 months as a junior at BCG. That’s a solid pedigree.
I imagine a lot of on the job coaching from Vozzo but he clearly has all the tools.
I couldn’t disagree with you more.
2x BnF, 1x AA at 25 after being thrown around all over the place is elite.
And those pludits don’t do how damaging he is justice.
Yeo is a Gun.
Read: Teams like West Coast who are fleet of foot and not lacking at the coal face with Shuey, Yeo, Redden, Sheed, Gaff, Rioli, Venables + other rookies.
As opposed the Freo who have Fyfe, Blakely, Brayshaw...
Thanks for the insight, makes sense.
You’re right.
But I think Wells has a lot to answer for. By making rash public statements he has basically whipped the faithful up into a frenzy. This social media storm is the result.
Very unprofessional if you ask me and I’d suggest that if he had his time again he would have kept his...
I reckon we would have to give up quite a bit to land 10-15 in the first place which again makes it not worth it.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ll take Kelly in a heart beat for the right price. Just don’t want to pay overs when he is no longer a clear need and we can get him next year for less. It’s...
Agreed there is no motivation for West Coast to go hard on Kelly and drop a top 10 pick, even a top 15 pick, now that Gaff has re-signed. Last years list refresh has done wonders for our squad, age profile, games played, balance are all quite good ex ruckmen due to Naitanui’s injury and Lycett...
The main board thread is going into meltdown already. Going to be an interesting few days. Think Geelong have set their fans up with unreal expectations which they will have to walk back from when they end up trading Kelly for 20 and Nelson.
I’d prefer Hickey. Sounds like he will be cheaper, think he has been mismanaged over many years at GCS and Saints. Suspect he will blossom at a team like West Coast with some quality coaching and support. Statistically superior of the three options.
Trade radio and the age reporting that Rory Lobb has nominated the dockers.
Not worried about this at all. Reckon the club told him we couldn’t afford him and so dockers the obvious choice.
