    Portfolio NFL Crossover

Oh, I would love to see what the Philadelphia Eagles would look like as an AFL kit.

is the AFL turning into an EPL style competition?

I won't deny that clubs like Hawthorn, Collingwood and even Richmond are having a banner time as far as talent and even with training and free agency, however in regard to my side, Essendon, for what is supposed to be one of the richer clubs in the competition is getting a very bad return of...

Hawthorn can still win the flag

From what I recall, Hawthorn have always been a no-nonsense football club, going back as far as the eighties. Today, the Mighty Fighting Hawks do have a chance at winning the Premiership - as long as the lads concentrate on the footy, and still keep themselves a little bit loose on the grounds...

Game day information leaked by Dogs player to Adelaide before Elimination Final

Yeah, I couldn't agree more - if the Crows used that information to their advantage, then the club should be disciplined; that's what I believe. Here in the States, we've had scandals involving one of our football clubs, the Patriots, and the way our NFL has been treating that club from New...

    Adopted team during Finals

I can't really say who i favor in this year's Finals - now that the Dons have crashed and burned. I had been hoping for a Hawthorn-Adelaide Grand Final, but I suppose I shall have to side with the Crows in the upcoming Semifinal. However, should Hawthorn carry past the winning post, then I...

Expansion Jason Holmes to become first born and raised American to debut in the AFL

I sincerely hope he does well in the AFL - partly because he may be a good player, partly because he's from the United States. That's all I ask, friends.

    The old suburban VFL/AFL grounds

Do any of the Essendon faithful miss Windy Hill? I'll admit, I've never been to Australia, but to me, Windy Hill was a sort of sacred ground; my being one for the Bombers and all. As for the North faithful, do any of them miss the old grounds at Arden Street? I welcome your comments.

How did you pick your team

I started following Essendon back in the 1983 campaign - what got me at first was the uniform, but then I noticed the way the Dons were playing the footy; the club was one which practiced 'ball control' - every player on the ground knew where his mates were and when to get the footy to him. Ah...

Could some teams do with a bit of re-branding?

If I recall correctly, the Port Adelaide AFL Club was named "Power" after the Torrens Island power station in West Adelaide, which is close to the natural Port supporter base.

Essendon are on the same level as Hawthorn and Sydney.

Exciting times, indeed - the Dons managed to remind me of the last quarter of the 1984 Grand Final in the last two minutes of the match; I rather think the boys from Windy Hill may just make a run for the Premiership this season, and I hope it is a good and long run.

Preview Essendon vs Hawthorn, MCG, 12/04/2015, 3:20 PM

Hopefully, this should be as good as, if not better than, those Bomber-Hawk clashes from back in the early-to-mid eighties. I just hope we can have a good match, everyone.

Preview Essendon vs Hawthorn, MCG, 12/04/2015, 3:20 PM

I imagine it could be reminiscent of some of the Essendon-Hawthorn battles from the eightes, yet I will be checking with anticipation.

    Melbourne team of the 50's

From what I recall, the coach of the Melbourne side during that time was Norm Smith, and he was a driving and inspiring coach - this was especially true in the case of one Ron Barassi Jnr., who went on to have a stellar career in the VFL/AFL. Yes, Melbourne should be brought up whenever and...

Teams Philadelphia Eagles - The Gold Standard

I am saddened by the passing of "Concrete" Chuck Bednarik, and yet I still believe he was the last of the sixty minute men in American pro football. May he be remembered forever.

Teams Philadelphia Eagles - The Gold Standard

I tend to agree with you, friend - especially in regard to guard and safety. As for receiver, well, it wouldn't hurt to have a good receiver come up in the draft - especially in the first three rounds. But, of course, that's what I believe.

Teams Philadelphia Eagles - The Gold Standard

As one who has been a fan of the Eagles since the 1985 season, I hope we're not seeing the "cut and run" from Chip. I really don't.

When ESPN carried the footy, I would watch the matches every week - however, I only watch some of the footy via YouTube. I even try to sing "One Day in September" from time to time, just because the song embodies what we all are trying to reach in the footy - especially in the big league.

Expansion Geelong Chief Calls For International Expansion - AGE

I agree, friend - it will have to take an effort of an individual club in the competition to make an international expansion happen. Essendon could make it happen, but so, too, could say, Hawthorn or even Swans or maybe Port. I say maybe in Port's case, but this club has been somewhat of a...

    Greetings from Clinton, Tennessee

I'll admit to following the American gridiron - particularly the Eagles and Ravens, for differing reasons, but also some American college basketball, and even a bit of ice hockey. In regard to baseball, I like only four major league teams - Tigers, White Sox, Nationals and Pirates. I also...

    Greetings from Clinton, Tennessee

To be honest, Madmug, I am from the States - I was born in Wyandotte, Michigan, and have been living in the American South since 1973. I began watching the footy on ESPN back in 1983, and when Essendon was making noises back in that time, I became a footy follower. From what I remember, the...

    Footscray-Fitzroy Merger

As one who has viewed, albeit on television, some Carlton-Essendon matches, a merger of those two clubs would only arouse a large chunk of ill feeling - especially among those who believe they are getting the worst of the deal. I speak for myself, of course, as I am one for the Dons, yet the...

Universal Love Sheedy returns home to Essendon

I think that Sheeds coming back to Windy Hill provides a much-needed boost - I just hope things go well for the Dons as the season progresses, barring any other developments. I suppose with me, I am Essendon 'til I die.

    Greetings from Clinton, Tennessee

Hello to all from Clinton, Tennessee, USA. I have been a follower of the footy since 1983 - it was Essendon which got me into the footy, especially the Big League. I wish to take part in these forums, and I look forward to speaking on the footy as time goes on; I shall try to keep up, by means...

Opinion Which club is Essendon's biggest rival?

I'll admit to despising Carlton heavily for what they did to the Dons back in the 1995 season, but also Collingwood - mostly because of the way they play in the ANZAC Day clash.

    2015 predictions

I have to agree with you, friend - Franklin has been known to play some good footy, and Ablett has been very good through the years. As for the Premiers, I will admit that, although I am one for Essendon, I have to admire the never-say-die spirit of Port Adelaide. Brisbane as a top 8 Smokey...

    The old suburban VFL/AFL grounds

I think that should be a possibility, friend - I would consider that one to think about, as having four clubs each at the Docklands and also the MCG is a bit crowded - too much for my liking. However, would the powers that be let the Roos play a few home matches there? I have been noticing...

I never thought of that one, friend - and I am a fan of "Are You Being Served?" - thanks.

    Essendon's Penalty

Admittedly, I have been following the Bombers since the days of Kevin Sheedy as coach in the early eighties, and I do believe that there should be a penalty - I say this knowing full well that there are some who are for the black with red sash who may take me for an idiot, however, I tend to...
