    Review Round 5 - Hawthorn @ PF Stadium - 13th April 2024 - 7:30pm AEST

Can't underestimate the importance of having your best players being in their prime and fit and ready to go. Two years ago it was Touk then daylight, and our best players were too young or too injured (Rowell). Now the young players in the team are role players, don't have to carry the load.

The one thing he will get by playing in the backline is the pill. The last 3 games has been 13, 18 and 19 kicks as well as 8, 8, and 10 marks. Playing as a kicking defender he will get given the ball all day every day. Get more comfortable kicking to good targets in dangerous positions, get...

    Review Round 5 - Hawthorn @ PF Stadium - 13th April 2024 - 7:30pm AEST

Agree that is looks unbalanced without another small/medium defender, replace one of the talls. Which probably means that Dimma doesn't think we have anyone who can play that role well enough to be best 23 in a Dimma style team. Buderick out, Sexton out, Swallow to the sub, Lemmens not tried...

Suns in the Media - Part II

Cue the massive whinges.... "Look when we said the best way of getting good players to stay at a Northern club is be a good footy club and have some success and also recruit local players who won't have a go home factor, we didn't really mean it!!!!" We might need to get that Simpsons Sook...

    Review Round 5 - Hawthorn @ PF Stadium - 13th April 2024 - 7:30pm AEST

A bit like Rowell last year. Trying to break tackles and/or burst out of stoppage, but getting stopped atm. Rowell had plenty of these last year, this year not so much. Built his body a bit more, worked on his technique, just got better. You have to take on the oppo around the ball and beat...

    Review Round 4 - Western Sydney @ Mt. Barker - 7th April 2024 - 12:30pm AEST

Which team has a good matchup for Toby? Suggest none. Who have we got? The practice match was Uwland (I think) and that was a bath. Just pick one and live with it and hope he has an off day. To beat GWS we have to at least break even with their midfield and also outplay the other forwards like...

    Review Round 4 - Western Sydney @ Mt. Barker - 7th April 2024 - 12:30pm AEST

Not just me then. 2 tackles today, but it is the overall lack of pressure. The boundary riders were always talking about how he would get back to help out and make plays in our D50, then run forward. Always tackling, always hard to play against. Less obvious this year, hopefully just out of form...

    Review Round 4 - Western Sydney @ Mt. Barker - 7th April 2024 - 12:30pm AEST

Hmm..... We have named 7 players who are 21 and under. 3 debutants. 1 playing game 2. 1 playing game 7. Mac and Humper are the other two. Going to enjoy watching this with very low expectations, but with much optimism.

    Review Round 4 - Western Sydney @ Mt. Barker - 7th April 2024 - 12:30pm AEST

If we assume that we will never beat GWS ever again... Then another loss means nothing. If we assume that we will never beat GWS ever again... Then a win means we can run semi-naked through the streets with a bottle of scotch in hand yelling something about betwetters and Vic bias and that...

List Mgmt. Where are they now? (ex suns)

Feels like a player and coach failure, with some list management thrown in for not trading him for something two off-seasons ago. Seems like Sharpy wet the bed and the coaches could not get him turned around. If he can make a career out of it from where he was, well done to him. But good...

    Review Round 2 vs Western Bulldogs @ Mars Stadium - 24th March 2024 - 12:00pm AEST

Beaten all over the ground. Collins gets a tick with all those marks (playing well this year), but that is about it. If we get beaten in the mids, and don't put enough pressure on the ball, we are going to really struggle with our current backline. Sexton is a good story, but he ain't doing...

    Review Round 1 vs Adelaide @ People First Bank Stadium - 16th March 2024 - 7:10pm AEST

A couple of their goals were great snaps in traffic in the wet by Rachele that another day will miss or get smothered or the ball will end up with someone that can't kick that well. And as you noted, we hit the post several times with good shots. The mdifield game evened up in the last quarter...

Win win win. The Rankine pick was the one we got as compo for Lynch leaving. So on a player basis it has been Lynch-Rankine-Humphrey who might be the best forward line in the league all on their own..... ...in contrast the pick we got for Prestia turned into ScrimShanker who we then traded...

Preview Community Series vs GWS @ Manuka Oval - Thurs 29 Feb; 6:10pm

You are either winning or you are learning.....whole lot of lessons going on this year. Currently balancing these two things: hopeful that real games, becoming more instinctive, and gaining confidence in what the coaching staff are trying to do can push us to at least 11 wins (a record!)...

In our case, the current chairman making public statements about club expectations is a good thing. We don't have the local media setting expectations for us, putting us under the pump when we underperform or bigging us up when we do play well. We also don't have expectations based on past...

    Toast Favorite players

Situation dependent for me. Watching Gaz in slippery conditions. Best I have seen live. If Umps were allowed to give 5 votes for BOG and 1 for the next best, in slippery conditions he would have got a few of them. A sneaky reason he probably was better at the Suns than the Cats, a lot more...

Training Pre-season 2024 - Hump Daddy #19 Hype Thread! Dawn of Dimma

Black Flag. The social team with the deep cuts. Been enjoying the variety (and volume) they are putting out. Feels like with Dimma arriving there is more attention on the club this preseason, and the club has kicked the social team into gear to put out plenty of content to feed that increased...

Maddi played one year with us and looked like a potential beast mode player. If the sisters never tried to play with us but went straight to 7's and stayed there until after Paris, but then wanted to become 2 sport athletes and wanted to play with us, I suspect we would think that was awesome...

Interested to see how he goes this year where he starts the preseason in the best 22 for sure and with a new 4 year contract. Confidence would be high after a strong preseason last year and then finishing the year extra strong when given a good crack in the midfield. Potential for another jump...

2023/2024 Gold Coast Draft & Trade periods

The NGAs were set up b/c of whinging about the northern academies and the other clubs need academies as well. Then JUH is the highest rated player in his draft and there is a whole lot of whinging about the benefit for the Dogs compared to the development cost. Freo picked up Liam Henry as well...

Academy: Gold Coast SUNS Gun Factory

FYI. Brisbane Chairman. Andrew Wellington @AJWellytweet Bit of angst over the #AFLDraft and Nthn Academies. Looking at 2023 AFL lists, Nthn state clubs had approx 23% of their lists drafted from the clubs home state. Average for other 14 clubs approx 60%, over 65% for Vic clubs...

We also earned pick 4 on merit!!!! By stinking up the joint at the end of the year. No handouts there. In fact, we did the comp a favour. Imagine the outcry if we beat North in the last round and they get picks 1 and 2 after free agency compo. Outrage. The other clubs should be thanking us...

News AFL to overhaul the draft, discuss changes to Academy and FS bid matching

Would love to know what some of the 3rd party deals and 'cashies' are for players in the bigger cities and with big money supporters willing to spend (hello Frank Costa), not just for the best players but the 15-25th best players on a list. When was the last time the AFL found any breaches in...

News AFL to overhaul the draft, discuss changes to Academy and FS bid matching

I think there were 9 players taken inside the first 29 picks that came from the Allies team. Individual clubs and supporters can have a whinge about how unfair the northern academies are in particular for the draft, but pretty sure the AFL does not give a rats toss bag. Suspect the AFL will...
