If Channel 7 had a Sunday Doubleheader like they used to back in the day, then a 60 minute/90 minute pre-game type show like Gameday would have worked well.

Any chance we could make the season opener not the same teams every year?

This. Make it the Premiers vs the Prelim Finalist they beat.... good chance there were a few stories that came out of the Prelim encounter that are ignited in the season opener, the Prelim finalist looking to make up for last year's defeat. Richmond v Port at the 'G would be worthy of a Season...

grand finals are going to be night from now on

If a WA side makes it from now on, move it to 4:30pm twilight to accommodate Perth viewers.

grand finals are going to be night from now on

Still worth trying it at the MCG with a full house at night before a true assessment can be done on whether a night GF is the way to go. I guess this decision keeps the VFL grandpas happy for a few more years....

The AFL wants 22 teams. Name your next four.

Next 10 years: ... Tasmania Canberra A generation away, don't neglect the AFL heartland of WA and SA ahead of further expansion into the frontier: Joondalup (WA) Norwood (SA) Fur flung future: Sydney3 Northern Territory/Queensland New Zealand

    Jumper clash fails

The shorts arrangement sucked. Cats in white shorts, Pies in black shorts whenever those two teams clash, regardless of who is the "home" team.

Analysis Amateur graphical look at interstate v vic games

If we expand to 20 with Tassie and Canberra, perhaps the fixture should take on the following Vic v Interstate formula to derive the 3 double up games that will still need to be played to get to 22. Pair up the Interstate sides accordingly: WA: WCE/Fre SA: Adel/Port NSW: Syd/GWS QLD...

North should probably be playing a few home games against non Vic sides there too. Maybe even the odd Melbourne game there too.

The AFL wants 22 teams. Name your next four.

Agree. I think 20 is the nice round number to strive for in the near/medium term. Tasmania and Canberra sides would make the league truly national. We are still far off from sides in NT, North QLD or NZ - decades away. Final 8 is still fine with 9 finals, but $$$ to be had with a Final 10 if...

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

WA3 would be based in the vicinity of Perth. Optus Stadium is underutilized. Joondalup as West Coast lite seems like the only real choice. But is it necessary? No. But they may be #20 anyway.

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

WA3 may just result out of circumstance. Bottom line, I don't think its truly necessary, but would solidify WA/Perth as being the second largest market in the AFL. Would provide some flexibility with the TV fixture for some Sunday night games in the west too. Joondalup would steal a few fans...

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

This is the expansion path that should happen to get to 20. Tassie is priority atm. But the same priority is not currently in place with Canberra, so it may take some time. Giants will still be around using it as their second home and they'd need a better stadium to replace Manuka. The AFL...

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

resulting in 11 finals if you do Final Five x2, you would have 13 finals = more $$$ either way, the Finals become a 5 week campaign

Fixture AFL 2021 Community Series Pre-Season FIXTURE Starting March 4th - Final Fixtures Released and Updated.

I'd just get the bottom 4 sides on the ladder from the previous season and have 15 v 18, 16 v 17 in 20 minute halves at one venue (ex. if there are at least two Vic sides, have it at Marvel with one Vic side in each game). Losers then play off for practice in 20 minute halves, then winners play...

I'd like to see the Bulldogs play 4 home games in Ballarat. 1 token game at Whitten Oval against someone like the Suns, but I doubt it will ever happen.

Sports Sydney 2000 Olympic Games: 20th Anniversary

The last Olympics I really cared about, not just because it was in Oz as I cared about Barcelona and Atlanta too. I've just been meh about the Olympics since Athens in 2004, it's just not that big of a deal for me any more. Slightly off topic, but Sydney Olympic Park is just dead. Nothing to...

Utopia would have been... 16 team league with 4x4 divisions. Play your division twice, play another division twice (over a 3 year rotation), play the rest once = 22 games. 4 division winners plus 4 wild cards make up the Final 8. 1 side in QLD, NSW, ACT, TAS 2 sides in WA, SA 8 legacy VFL sides
