Strategy What to do with pick 1 now we’ve got it - Do We Need Reid or is it Curtins

I saw an article in Code which rated Brander as the best player in the Sunraysia league. That’s quite the career trajectory.

That's not the way list management works.

Yes, yes I do. You might need to step away from the keyboard on this one because you are mixing up real world for sporting world.

But the whole narrative of Junior and Port is because he wants to go to Adelaide for family reasons. I have no reason not to believe but nothing would surprise me with footballers.

List Mgmt. Rioli to Port Discussion

I'm not a huge fan of keeping a player who doesn't want to be here - especially if we are not making finals in 2023. I can't think of a scenario where keeping him helps West Coast in the long term. The only long shot is if Junior changes his mind and (we believe genuinely) fully commits to WC.

List Mgmt. Rioli to Port Discussion

I think we'll be ok. All the (media) predictions of the JHF trade have not included pick 27 and, when it is thrown in, it is as some fantasy three way deal where Georgiades comes to us as well. I can't see pick 27 being useful for North. They need established players or high probability (ie top...

List Mgmt. Rioli to Port Discussion

It seems that Port and North have already been talking for a couple of weeks - at a minimum, both have known for many days that JHF would nominate for Port. Given the storyline of JHF this year, North are not surprised, nor see any benefit of keeping him an extra year, so saying they would not...

List Mgmt. Contract, Trade & Draftee Discussion - 2022 Off Season Edition

I'm not completely against the compensation pick but it is an outlier in sport where there is a draft system. I'd prefer that the first contract of a draftee is much longer so that a club does get the return on investment.

List Mgmt. Contract, Trade & Draftee Discussion - 2022 Off Season Edition

The whole conversation for the last month has been how Geelong are able to convince players to take lower deals due to the lifestyle and playing finals three out of every four years. So, there isn't really a lot of surprise that they will continue to do what has worked for them before.

Oppo Camp The Hawthorn Racism Report

Can confirm. I’m on a general footy Facebook group which had its origins as a North page. It’s a hotbed of conspiracy theories, victim blaming and ‘fake news’ type of comments. I tried to do a bit of misinformation correction (deliberately sticking to facts to avoid getting into arguments) but...

Oppo Camp The Hawthorn Racism Report

That makes sense though. You might want another chance at another club and you know calls will be made to Hawthorn to check your character. Or, maybe you are still just a kid trying to process it all and not realising how effed it all is because you're still in the footy bubble.

Oppo Camp The Hawthorn Racism Report

Yep, whilst I agree that Clarko etc should have been questioned as part of the Hawthorn investigation, I think we need to keep in mind the power imbalance that (allegedly) allowed all this to happen in the first place. By the sounds of it, some of the players and families are in a worse place...

Oppo Camp The Hawthorn Racism Report

Go and look up Russell Jackson’s recent investigative pieces - Robbie Muir, sexual abuse at Footscray, a paedophile ring at St Kilda little league. I groaned when I saw the headline and the author because I knew it would be true. This is his specialty.

Oppo Camp The Hawthorn Racism Report

There’s a few people in here who don’t know how journalism works. Clarkson and Fagan should have been contacted by Hawthorn and/or the AFL, but Jackson has given them the appropriate amount of time to offer a comment or ask for an extra day to collect their thoughts. Oh, and as Ben...

I don't remember what he said about the Kelly trade but Gerard is a proponent of more free agency and movement of players than we have now. He wants something like the US or European environment. His view on Rioli is consistent with everything else he's said.

Welcome Jai Culley: 2023 Rnd 6 Rising Star Nominee

The stats are great but I also loved the physical presence he was all day. He was often the second guy on a tackle forcing a stoppage, or just jamming things up through using his size well. He wasn’t shy in trying to rip the ball out of the hands of Hawks too - we can expect a few of those.

Autopsy Positives and Negatives vs Richmond

All I wanted out of this season (when it was obvious the direction it was heading) was a faster game style and to see what we have in youth. I went to the game today and felt that it was the newer/younger players who were keener to move the ball fast and come inboard. That’s great. Now don’t...

Going to Melbourne for round 18 - ticket advice?

My view from the last row at the top of the Olympic stand at some game in late September 2018. Photos are deceptive and make it look further than it is. No issues seeing what is happening and great to see the setup of both teams. And a photo of miserable Pies fans just because.

Going to Melbourne for round 18 - ticket advice?

Depending on your sequencing, you might be better off hiring a car. If you’re going to Geelong, it would be easier to go straight from there to Ballarat rather than back to Melbourne. Also, if you think Melbourne is cold, Ballarat is always 2 or 3 degrees cooler! If you want some scenery, go...

Going to Melbourne for round 18 - ticket advice?

The G has great seats (disregard the comment above) as long as you don't just rock up on the day to a big game. You will (pretty much) always get a ticket to the G on the day but if you go to a big game you might end up at the top, which is too far away, or at the fence, which is too close and...

Autopsy Positives and Negatives vs North

Human highlight - Sitting ten rows in front of a bloke out of his seat hooping and hollering when some random Eagle took a mark. Everyone turned around in a bit of confusion to look at this guy. ‘That’s my brother!’ He’s shouting as Aaron Black gets his first possession. When Black kicked his...
