Opinion Pies fans. Calm the **** down!

Not getting too excited until we demonstrate we can beat Geelong and WCE. Been a decent stretch without beating either.

    Toast Hail King ROB

I agree with that. Ultimately the only way to create sustained success and ‘beat’ the salary cap is to build a culture of non mercenaries. Players who are happy to stay for less than market rate. If you pay through the nose for Grundy, not only do you put a lot of eggs in one basket, you could...

    Toast Hail King ROB

Of course. I have no doubt that Collingwood will be asking Grundy and if he indicates that wants to go home we will most likely want to trade this year while he’s in contract (and knowing you have pick 2). I think it’s a moot point though as he seems to be a super genuine bloke who will stay...

    Toast Hail King ROB

Yep. Hopefully from my POV it doesn’t come to that. We are in a similar boat with Sier. Kid had better get signed up soon as clubs will be coming hard for him.

    Toast Hail King ROB

Yeah I don’t think he will leave either. Sounds like he’s very happy at the club and living in Melbourne. If he did leave I’d be looking to get O’Brien to Collingwood. Rate him highly.

    Toast Hail King ROB

Unfortunately this looks right. Nothing at all wrong with O’Brien.

    Recommitted Brayden Sier [re-signed]

No doubt. If he leaves we will get screwed as he doesn’t have the CV yet. We will need to offer him a decent contract as you’d think most clubs will be trying to pry him away knowing they’re getting a bargain.

Recommitted Lachie Whitfield [re-signed for 7 more years]

Of course nobody would say no. Fits a real need for Melbourne though I think. They murdered us in clearances but got smacked on the outside. Sounds like that’s been the case all this year tbh

    Recommitted Brayden Sier [re-signed]

Haha! Seriously though, I wouldn’t willingly take the crows 1st for him. He was very raw upon drafting, a real bolter so is very young in footy terms. Has already shown quality in September. Walks into the side on Monday and was one of the best afield. Could be absolutely anything. Not saying he...

Recommitted Lachie Whitfield [re-signed for 7 more years]

Might suit Melbourne. Outside mid with speed to help them on the spread.

    Recommitted Brayden Sier [re-signed]

Will be a disaster for Collingwood if he leaves. Has star quality. If I was Carlton I’d be throwing the kitchen sink at him.

Analysis Our TEN best players and only ten

    1. Grundy 2. Pendlebury 3. Treloar 4. Sidebottom 5. Crisp 6. DeGoey 7. Howe 8. Stephenson 9. Adams 10. Moore My list takes into account how good the player is (IMO), as well as how available/durable they are. In other words, a closer reflection of their real life output/production.

    Toast Sorry Adam

In some ways I believe this issue is similar to the ‘violence against women, Australia says no’ domestic violence campaign. The vast majority of men know it’s abhorrent to physically harm a woman and those who don’t will not listen to the message anyway (don’t give a stuff). Making the domestic...

    Toast Sorry Adam

I don’t see any overtly racist comments in this thread tbh. You’re making assumptions about the motivations of some who may have booed Goodes and clearly racism is only one of the possible motivations. He is a divisive character who at best was trying to ‘educate’ all the ‘unwashed’ as to...

    Toast Sorry Adam

I like it when the condescension gets to the stage where the ‘progressive’ types tell us that we are racist and don’t even know it ourselves. Please, tell me how to think and feel!

    Toast Sorry Adam

Well said. The virtue signalling going on by businesses protecting their brands is sickening. Need only look at how despite the media degrading Trump, and making it virtually taboo for one to approve of him openly, he still won the election. The polls had Hillary Clinton home and hosed...

    Toast Sorry Adam

I am fine with individuals having an opinion opposing mine, I’d be a hypocrite otherwise. What I think is wrong is spokesmen making apologies on behalf of swathes of people. To assume that everyone who booed Goodes did so from a POV of pure, unadulterated racism is too much.

    Toast Sorry Adam

Perhaps you’re right. It was never really free speech. The thought police are definitely more strict these days though.
  19. D

    Toast Sorry Adam

Free speech is dead. Anything that contradicts mainstream seems to be labelled as hate speech and the person is muzzled/shamed/disemployed. I’m an atheist and personally believe Folau’s comments are rubbish but he ought to be free to say/post what he likes. Just as people should be free to watch...

    Review Pies defeat Dees (98-57)

Yep, it’s all about the flag. Sick to death of losing grand finals! I love the club but we need to engrain a real killer instinct and get the job done when it counts. We feel like a much more solid unit with the big bear in the middle imo.

    Review Pies defeat Dees (98-57)

Well said. He’s the genuinely big body inside mid we lack. If he can develop his tank and become more versatile the sky is the limit for him.

    Review Pies defeat Dees (98-57)

Totally agree. It’s a pity we went so hard for Beams. Sier is the future and is already surpassing him. Hopefully we have the cap space to retain him now as it’ll be a disaster if we don’t.

    Review Pies defeat Dees (98-57)

Sier is a special talent. I thought the JPK comparisons were absurd initially...not now! So composed, hunts the ball, very strong and his disposal whilst blue collar is very effective.

Preview Changes & Pre-match Discussion vs. Sydney Swans (Round 10, Fri 24/05 7:50pm)

Is Madgens form good and warranting selection or is he simply the bottom of the barrel?

Preview Changes & Pre-match Discussion vs. Sydney Swans (Round 10, Fri 24/05 7:50pm)

We better win the midfield decisively or we are going down. Huge opportunity for Wills to show his worth at the coal face with us looking vulnerable. Madgen in makes me nervous. Real test of us as a club to grind out a win in these circumstances.

How much longer can Bolton survive?

Hardwick and Buckley’s experience of being on the coaching precipice before returning excellent results has shown the importance of not only patience by the clubs involved but the importance of support staff. The head coach is an easy scapegoat but it looks like they are just an important cog in...

Preview AFL Round 8 - Match Preview Collingwood@Carlton (MCG– 1:45PM)

Huge danger game. We struggled to beat them last year on both occasions. They’ll be hyper motivated after last week and get 3 good ins while we lose two significant players. I see Lynch named as emergency....let’s hope that’s not as cover for Grundy

Mega Thread The POST 2016 SEASON Buckley Coaching Discussion Thread (Latest: not much happening)

It would take a huge reversal of trends for this year to end in anything but tears. Buckley has stated that it's finals or bust basically....and you know when things like that are said that only bad things can happen. Very reminiscent of when Mick Malthouse said he couldn't see Carlton losing a...

Mega Thread The POST 2016 SEASON Buckley Coaching Discussion Thread (Latest: not much happening)

I am not concerned with the outs, nor really that we didn't squeeze a bit more trade currency out of them. What does concern me is how we have chosen to spend our salary cap with a very injury prone 32 year old and a bog ordinary 27/28 year old. If Wells goes down for lengthy periods it won't...
