I agree that a solid blue headed eagle would be better as a general statement, and perhaps that’s something that should have been better accounted for in the logo design, but with the current logo (which is one of the best logos in Australian sport), it just doesn’t work.
Again, another one I mocked up 5-6 years ago and I still firmly believe that it doesn’t look better - the logo was designed for the majority of the head to be the lighter colour, as those darker sections create the shadows.
Side note: I weirdly vividly remember mocking these up whilst sitting...
West Coast execs right now:
In seriousness though, footy jumpers are becoming less and less of a needle mover, unless it’s retro, retro-adjacent or outlandish.
The European football comparison is a moot point - you’re comparing apples to oranges. Football kits are becoming more and more...
I’d be happy with the Ochre coming back for a single Gather Round and then riding off into that beautiful gradient sunset.
As much as I love the Ochre and it has formed an oddly persistent part of my identity as a designer, the Eagles identity is royal and gold, and rightfully so.
Just once is...
The Eagles current set is perfection, and anyone wanting to mess with that wants change for the sake of change.
The home guernsey is the design that the club has played in seven grand finals and won four flags in, offers a suitable away option and when it does clash, the gold clash jumper...
Oh I see what’s happened - they were initially posted in the Footyjumpers thread, and the discussion had moved here. I just assumed I was looking at the same thread!
All good, carry on haha 😅
Hey guys, not letting me move the posts for some reason but please move any discussion of proposed jumpers to the Jumper Ideas thread, which can be found here: https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/jumper-ideas-for-2025.1378039/
This thread is specifically for discussion of the content on...
Definitely legitimate. I've seen both home and away Adelaide Crows guernseys from 1996 and 1997 with Puma retail tags. :)
I can't with all confidence give you the full backstory on it, but Puma did have a retail license for the AFL at the time and I believe had the contract to manufacture the...
Probably can’t really get too much into the nitty-gritty of it all, but definitely not an overnight process, and has been in the works for quite a while.
So anyway, pretty crazy how real this is now, feel like it’s been a big secret for a long while now so glad it’s out in the world.
I think the reception has been fairly positive overall, a lot of work went into this, like it’s not just a logo, it’s an entire overhaul of a brand and everything...
Sorry I couldn’t get an entry in for this one, it’s been a massive week for me at work design-wise.
Fizzler absolutely raising the bar here though, elite work!
Nah, it’s actually pretty era-authentic as is.
Main change is that this jacket didn’t have an Eagles logo on it at all, just a giant HJs logo on the back that they’ve swapped out.
Overall, it’s fairly underwhelming and clearly a case of design-by-committee given there doesn’t really seem to be any cohesive feel about any of the unveiled elements.
The colours are fine but also could have been deeper shades of the red and gold. I understand the need for tradition but just...
Definitely plenty of variables when it comes to sublimation, including fabric, inks, factory, machine used, how it presents under different lighting etc.
One thing that does come to mind though is that perhaps the colours are going more in line with whatever the “true” club colours are, which...
Would be vastly better IMO for the additional detailing to match the gold from the logo if they're using that as a tertiary colour.
It's not bad, just lacking a bit of character.
