Gabelich himself says in the clip "they are confident it's not an ACL, but they're not ruling it out until they get the scans" which sounds entirely reasonable and almost mirrors what Ross said in the presser (just with more sensationalist language). Definitely feels like clickbait in audio form.
He was walking around after the game without ice, without crutches and only seemed a little bit proppy. I'm hoping that's a good sign?
But yeah, hard to believe Ross "it's just cramp" Lyon on this one.
Nothing I hate more than an honorable loss. Disguises the flaws of the performance and means the media don't hit you as hard for losing. Would rather lose by 50 points and get the heat all week.
RE: King, looking at the slow motion footage, it looks like the injury occurs when the defender kicks the side of his knee in mid-air during the marking contest - not on the landing. You can clearly see his leg goes limp before he lands.
If this is indeed the case, it could mean it's not an ACL...
I don't want to be alarmist, but how the injury occured feels typical of an ACL injury. Grabs the side of the knee with the trainers. I am officially worried.
My guess is Sharman was injured (or subbed as a precaution). He went to ground after a collision in the forward line just before 3 quarter time and was subbed out at the break.
It seemed a strange decision when he was far from our worst (to that point) and we desperately needed another marking...
Not saying this is Ben's personality, but not every player wants to be "the main man". Being the centerpiece and "star" of a team (and the media scrutiny, spotlight and endorsements that comes with it) isn't the be all, end all for every athlete.
There's a chance that both King brothers being...
What if I put my phone in the microwave? Will that get the job done? Because if I have to wait all weekend, I'm going to descend from "ROSS IS BACK, ST KILDA IS SAVED!!!" to "they may as well move us to Tasmania" reeeeal quick.
Judging by Gil's poker face at the end there, he's all aboard the Ross Lyon Express and has strapped himself in.
I keep thinking about how players like Max King and Jack Higgins must feel. As someone who also grew up during this era of the Saints, it must be pretty exciting to think about...
Everyone is welcome to an opinion, but I simply can't understand those that aren't excited about a Ross Lyon return. St Kilda has been languishing in mediocrity since Ross Lyon left for Fremantle in 2011 - a departure that never should've come to pass. It is mind-boggling to me that the St Kilda...
I have a hard time believing they'd sack Ratten, this late in the game, if Ross hadn't committed verbally - if not put pen to paper already.
It seems like Ross was initially contacted six weeks ago (thanks Milney) and promptly made it clear to Essendon he wasn't after their coaching job. I...
This is the full 2 minute report from 7 News, which includes Tom Browne saying Basset has lost faith in both David Rath and James Gallagher (as part of the review). Lethlean joined the meeting at lunch time.
I posted this yesterday, but if you watch this AFL 360 video and listen to the timeline of quotes re: the Essendon coaching job (video begins at 0:19 seconds and every Ross quote is date stamped) you can see something changed for Ross Lyon along the way. He went from "very weary", but...
I'm about ready to run through a wall right now. If that doesn't get you up and about, nothing will.
I would rather suffer through a two year, failed experiment in nostalgia than suffer through another two years of middling medicority under a Brett Ratten, an Alan Richardson, a Scott Watters...
Not to play tin foil hat conspiracy theorist, but September 8th was when Ross Lyon formally declined to participate in the process at Essendon. Less than a month later (October 6th), Brett Ratten finds out the board are considering sacking him.
This video below from 360 is a timeline of his...
I can't find the video online (I imagine it's long been purged from YouTube) but this is verbatim what Ross Lyon said at 2009 Best and Fairest;
"If you can't give the commitment you gave this year, and you don't want to improve. Well you can go. Because we've got unfinished business"
You want...
The best course of action is to stay away from think pieces and talk back radio for the next week or so. I've said it before, but public consumption of AFL-related media is at its lowest point for the year between Trade Week and the Draft - all of these articles are nothing more than clickbait...
Would he need to rebuild St Kilda? This is a team that missed finals on percentage only, where in years past we would've made finals with our 2022 win/loss record. Surely we've got enough ingredients already in place that we just need a good game plan, buy-in from the group and a few more top...
Don't take Barrett (or any other AFL journalist's) doomsday commentary too seriously. With trade week over, the AFL media cycle is dead until the draft (and even then the draft gets significantly less interest than trade week and pre-season). It's nothing more than people trying to drum up...
The problem is, we've all been St Kilda supporters too long and seen too much. I think part of the reason so many of us are greedy for Ben to come now is because we don't believe it'll actually happen.
St Kilda supporters don't get nice things. We get Tom Hawkins hitting the post, Milne's...
It seems to be an "open secret" that the Saints will eventually land Ben King - whether that be this year or next. Surely if the Suns' cap squeeze is as tight as being reported, they would have to look at doing the deal this year so they don't lose their other out of contract young stars. Just...
