Jones pushed himself out of the club. AFL mandated the vaccine stuff and he up and retired rather than put himself on some sort of indefinite leave which mean that he could come back to any club than us when the mandates were dropped.
They’re not wrong though. The amount of times I’ve questioned the logic of a particular selection or strategic decision, heaps of people will scramble to say “they know what they’re doing, they’re professionals, who are you to question, etc” when surely everyone in this thread has known someone...
Not surprised, just my frustration we’ve kept the same approach, which I perceive as one that has let us down in some crucial games. (Collingwood/Gold Coast etc)
I guess I just have a fundamental disagreement with the match committee on how the sub should be used strategically.
Trying to understand your first point - are you comparing Rohan’s game against Stocker last week to his play today against Port?
If so I agree that he was stiff to get dropped in the first place. Gotta remember he missed a significant part of pre season and would only be returning to form now...
No but was hoping that we’d actually make a strategically useful sub choice for once.
Choice of emergencies is also suspect, given all 4 are smalls and gives no flexibility for late outs to talls pre game.
Whelp just realised Stocker and Dow are playing VFL.
I guess that’s another player at risk of leaving at the end of the season.
Quiet reminder that LOB is also a UFA due to being re-rookied.......
We might be in for a rougher offseason than we expected and depth might get impacted.
Yeah fair enough. I’d never accuse those two of giving us extra pace however. That’s why cottrell was the super sub.
I’m hoping stocker ends up being the call of the listed emergencies given he allows us to move around the pieces in the backline or might be given an opportunity further up the...
The Gov comment wasn’t really meant to be the main point of my comment.
But your comment indicates inside midfielder, ruckman or KPD as the positions required to have coverage if someone was to be injured.
I’ll try and explain why I don’t think small forwards/half backs are smart sub options in...
I don’t understand why we always pick subs in positions where we already have great coverage and flexibility????
Fog is a small forward which we are loaded with and are able to move across certain players already named in the team.
Newnes as well is another one where we have coverage across...
Dow took years to even have the body to play seniors footy. Only at the end of last year did he actually get to show off his increased size and strength and make use of it at the big level. He also improved his ability to create space for himself within a crowded pack at the end of last season...
I think a lot of the distinction for this argument is that we differ on who we feel is more likely to win us games, and also that playing one player over another might win us more games in the future, even if they are dead even or a fraction worse right now.
I’m of the latter argument that I...
Acting like no one has ever badmouthed a Carlton player before.
You must’ve been involved in thousands of blood feuds between 2002 and now.
Also those are his literal stats this year. I’m not expecting different because every game this year it’s been talked up how he’s dominating VFL and it’s...
If you want to see overreactions from possession counts you should see the people frothing at the mouth to get Setterfield in this week, only for him to get a likely 10 possessions and be below average in all metrics.
That’s literally all he brings though - which is ok if you’re a second tier forward pocket but not if you’re expecting to play as an undersized inside mid.
Yeah I think he’s only in interchange as a small fwd replacement or as a ‘break glass in case of catastrophic last minute injury run to the 3 midfield replacements in front of him in the pecking order’.
Inversely I’m not a Plowman hater but he tends to get exposed by the better medium forwards due to his lack of foot speed/strength.
I’m not sure Greene is a good match up for him.
I think he’s at his best in the sort of sweeper role being the link up man to get it out of our backline under...
Was just agreeing with you and adding my thoughts on his play
One downside of this board is that it’s very hard to track the full context of conversations and whether it’s one solo person arguing stocker should be dropped or a full group
Don’t understand the logic behind thinking Stocker would be dropped.
Outside of a poor first 15-20 minutes I thought he was one of our better players, and kept his head up even as the rest of the team fell apart.
Just want to put it out there that I am in no way an elite footballer [emoji28]
Just a guy who thinks that this is the wrong part of the season to start giving 4th/5th/6th chances to players who are likely going to be back in the twos after a week
Isn’t that fairly common though? List sizes are ~40 so unless one team is crueled by injury those numbers are going to be fairly consistent.
There’s a reason those players are in the twos and there’s a reason our players are as well.
