    Changes v Bombers

Are people unhappy that English only managed 19 hits to advantage last night? For reference, Stanley and Blicavs managed 14 between them. Or unhappy that he was only the 5th highest rated player on the ground? Or was that he led the game for score launches with 4? Definitely a top candidate...

Are we now entitled to an extra list spot for 2024?

I don't think that's so unbelievable. I think we all probably predicted Sanders to get #9 and Croft to get #16. It's not surprising the two trade-ins got the next two best numbers in #17 and #22. Freijah got the next best number available with #27, being the next highest pick. So all that needed...

Game Day LIVE - AFL 2023 Draftwatch for the WB

We sacrificed our draft hand for a high pick and points for Croft. The club made its decisions and showed what the recruitment priorities were and clearly Lual was not one of them. It's frustrating but Essendon had every right to do what they did and I'm sure if the roles were reversed we'd be...

Game Day LIVE - AFL 2023 Draftwatch for the WB

If we wanted Lual desperately enough we would've found a way to get a pick in the 30s we could've used on him. Clearly the club weren't as invested in him as those of us on this board were.

    Opinion 2023 AFL Draft Prospects

I'm saying we can trade Gold Coast's future second so long as what we get back also has a future second. For example if a team like Collingwood or Brisbane wanted to trade up their future seconds and give away a pick this year to do it.
  7. Claythesmiths

    Opinion 2023 AFL Draft Prospects

We have our own future second and Gold Coast's future third. The only way we can get back in this year is to trade either of those picks for a pick in the same round AND a pick this year. For example, we could trade Gold Coast's future third for Brisbane's future third and their pick 39, or...

I don't mind it, to be honest. Definitely helps attracts quality players to the VFL team which makes our VFL team more competitive. We don't want 11 plodders playing alongside our developing youngsters, do we? Besides, obviously not every pick from our VFL team has been a huge success but we've...

I can only assume we've traded in a F4 as part of this deal, too, otherwise I can't see how it meets the rules. Perhaps one of our current fourth rounders will go somewhere too. We have 69 and 72.

It’s pretty clear that FA compensation needs to be rejigged to be made fairer. Obviously players like McKay and Frawley some years ago have earned their former clubs significantly more than their true worth because their clubs happened to have a poor year, meanwhile the Buddy compensation in...

We got pick 21 last year with which we drafted Charlie Clarke. We got Brisbane's F1 and F2 which after today will be either picks 17 and 37 or 18 and 38.

I think a bit of perspective is needed with regards to our rumoured offer for Pick 4. As fans we can very easily be too caught up in winning trade week and lack insight into exactly what the list management staff are doing. If our trio of first round picks is so significantly overs for Gold...

    Pick 4 on the table?

That's true. Of all the picks on the table, I think 10 and the Bulldogs' F1 are probably the most valuable picks of all.
  16. Claythesmiths

    Pick 4 on the table?

Dogs fans have been hoping the offer was including something coming back to us, but that may be more wishful thinking than reality. North's four picks are slightly more valuable than the Dogs' three, assuming the Dogs finish 9th again next year: Dogs' 10, 17 and 10 adds up to: 3,815 points...
  17. Claythesmiths

    Pick 4 on the table?

Why would the Suns take that when 10+17/18 this year and F1 are already, apparently, on the table? From the Suns' perspective it really has to be all four of those picks, otherwise the North offer is less than the Bulldogs'.

Strategy Trade and List management Thread Part 6 (opposition supporters - READ posting rules before posting)

North's four picks are actually only slightly more valuable than our three. Assuming we finish 9th again next year: 10, 17 and 10 adds up to: 3,815 points. 14, 19, 19 and 20 add up to: 3,969 points. Pick 10 gives the Suns a lot more options in terms of on-trading to, I suppose.
  19. Claythesmiths

    Pick 4 on the table?

Yes, because 14 has so much more potential to be on-traded than 19.

The statement on their website says they can trade them. It's weird phrasing re the review, though.

    Pick 4 on the table?

If I were Gold Coast I would only do the trade if Port's Pick 14 was included in the deal. 14, 19 and 19(24).

Strategy Trade and List management Thread Part 6 (opposition supporters - READ posting rules before posting)

If we can't trade up, we probably trade down. Trade 10 to picks in the late teens/early 20s. Probably match Croft with 17, then after a Croft bid reevaluate our options and either use the two other picks, or use them to trade back in.
  23. Claythesmiths

    Pick 4 on the table?

That'll make North heavy favourites for the pick then, I'd say. Although the statement said the AFL 'reserves the right to review' those picks? How does that work if they've already traded them? Weird.
  24. Claythesmiths

    Pick 4 on the table?

I can't see North being able to get that deal done unless they're able to trade their 2024 picks, too. 14 and 19 will be no match for the Dogs' 10 and 17/18.

Jesse Hogan an average player? He beat our superstar key forward in pretty much every metric this year. He's clearly had an up and down career, but it's inarguable that the talent was always there, and it's on full display at the moment.

I think it is post-compo. So you're right pick 4 becomes 5, pick 10 becomes 11 and so on. I'm not sure about Adelaide specifically, but I think a lot of teams will have interest in four, and once the dust settles a bit there'll be a lot of teams looking to trade up to it, both with current and...

I agree with them on that. We won't get 4 for 10 and BL1 alone. Pick 16 and it's a 428 point upgrade. Pick 17 and it's a 386 point upgrade. Pick 18 and it's a 346 point upgrade. Someone will offer a bigger points upgrade eventually. Adelaide can offer a 347 point upgrade with picks 9 and...

Port are most likely going to finish top 4, it is very unlikely they will get Sweet in the PSD if that is how it plays out. That won't happen. Games played is not relevant, in my opinion. Everyone knew we barely wanted Lipinski and were happy for him to leave. We wanted Sweet to stay and...
