The other half of my family are Pies legends members (which brings me great shame 😂) and you’re right, they said that Buckley was basically pushed by the majority of the playing group at the end, wasn’t very accommodating to the players families etc apparently, and the players were just on...
Right you are, I think the only equitable thing to do would be a merger with them and lolnorf so the league is back to 18 teams, split evenly between Vic and Non-Vic teams.
That’s a very simplistic way to view things, I don’t claim to know exactly how many overall, but I know in at least 2012, 2014, 2021 & 2022 he was top 3 in the Coleman, and in 3 of them years he received AA honours because he was seen to have been the best overall forward of them seasons.
Going by my pop (I’m much too young to know) it goes back to Kennedy vs Davis, Davis calling Kennedy’s Commandos the dirtiest team in the league, and subsequently after the 1963 GF we buried a dead Hawk at KP… When he found out Kennedy was not pleased to say the least apparently.
Just realising you minnows are hardly worth being called a rival anymore, you’re quickly approaching 10 years without a finals win, your 4-time premiership coach hates your club with a passion, & we destroyed you from the inside out by taking Smith years after that infamous 2016 QF. Our job is done.
He has been a crucial (arguably deciding) factor in our last two premierships, he started off win the first two goals to set the tone in the 2022 GF, and his second half in the 2011 GF was the difference no doubt about it, so being a big game player provides another reason why he’s an all time...
The 800 goal forward comment was alongside the fact he’s about to reach 300 goal assists, Eg he’s kicked an enormous amount himself, whilst being the most unselfish of all players in his position.
Gary Ablett and Wayne Carey are better than elite, they’re top 5 players of all time. Legends of the game. Dermott is not in that bracket, I’d say Hawkins sits alongside Dermott for quality and importance, but remember that footy is played so much differently now, there’s a strong case to...
He is universally seen as a top 3 forward since the start of this millennium, in my eyes (but of course I’m biased) he is second after Buddy. If that doesn’t enable a guy to be “elite” nothing will, and just on stats, soon enough Hawkins will become the only guy in league history to be an 800...
I’ll speak for myself and say I never was mad at him, or any player tbh that wants to leave, if anyone wants to leave for whatever reason let them go and just focus on what you can get for them & work with what you’ve got. As proved when we lost the great Gary Ablett Jnr (for basically nothing...
Surely you have to be writing this to be getting “bites” back, you can’t honestly be serious, we have turned two players (who were a pick 40 & a Cat B rookie) into guys with 6 All Australian’s, 4 Best & Fairest’s and 2 Premierships between them, all done purely through our ability to “develop”...
The most versatile player in the league for a decade now, multiple B&F, All Australian and a Premiership player! Sneaky all time great Geelong player. Congratulations Blitz! 👏
I think the goal assists are something that can be used to “split” the three, Hawkins is by far the most unselfish player of that trio. Soon enough (barring injury) he will reach 800 goals and 300 goal assists, that’s a stat that will most likely never be achieved again.
Whilst you might be right, I’m certainly not going to say at least my club can’t win one in the near future, because in Round 9 2022 we were old, 5-4 and seen as absolutely no chance, and the reigning champions at the time were young and 9-0, literally not one poster on this forum had us as...
West Coast were still pretty good two years post flag, hosted a final I’m pretty sure!?….Last year we had a lot of things go wrong, polar opposite to 2022 where not much went wrong at all, I see us as a rung below the top few sides, but right alongside teams such as the Saints, you guys, Dees...
Correct. To answer the OP’s question I think at our zenith we could take most of them teams, perhaps with the exception of Brisbane. Being the only team in the history of the game to win a GF by over 100 points must carry some weight, how much 🤷♂️
On Riewoldt and Hawkins if you look at career goals and games they’re near on identical, and if you’re going to include Coleman’s, also acknowledge the team aspect of goal/score assists, Hawkins is right up there in all time stats on that metric! Much more unselfish player.
Luke Parker (Has he done a thing in any GF he’s played!?)…. Ben McKay (How on earth did a dead average backman get that salary!?)…Lachie Whitfield (Not a star like he’s made out to be, just a good reliable footballer with decent skills)….Alex Pearce (Can’t believe he’s a club captain)….Darcy...
Sam De Koning is literally one of the best young key defenders in the game just for a start….And just remember Geelong have never needed premium picks to stay relevant, players such as Stewart, Blicavs, J.Henry, Atkins etc are all either rookies or very late picks. I have no issue with our list...
Completely agree, 2011 especially was something quite special I reckon (not even because we won the flag) there was 3 superpower teams at the top at the same time, an 18-4 Hawks about to start a dynasty, a 19-3 Cats at the end of our dynasty, and a 20-2 Pies going for back to back, you just...
The best runner up dynasty would certainly be the Saints of 09/10, that team would of won the premiership in any year from basically 2016 onwards, and that even includes a premiership won by my own club. They probably would of won in 2005/06 against the Eagles and Swans too.
Unfortunately when our group won our 3 premierships you blokes were more successful at sacking coaches than winning finals… Don’t be fooled by the quality of your 3 time premiership squad, as shown by this thread, it’s by far the weakest this century.
Having seen both groups of teams run around in finals I can comfortably say he’s right. Our 2019/2020 team that played you guys in late September/October was nowhere near the quality of our team 2009/2010, our team that won in 2009 had 17 players who were All Australian at some point in their...
Upon my return I was hoping to find higher quality of Hawfie posters! Ps TazHawk15 how do you feel about your former 4 time premiership coach now despising your club!? And to think you blokes call yourselves the family club. 😂
Correct. Case in point we turned a Category B Rookie in Blicavs, and a mature age GFL turned VFL player in Stewart into multiple best & fairest winning, All Australian, Premiership players. That’s not luck in free agency, that’s just great recruiting. Even picking up Tim Kelly was a great get...
I think we are shaping as being around the same mark as Richmond 2022, we will have capacity to still push (and maybe beat) a few of the very good sides, but our time as a true “contender” has passed. I do believe injuries played a big part this year, and we are better team than the 12th...
