I wanted to think about things a bit before I got on here. I'll start with the highlight of the night and that was the young soldier singing the national anthem with no music and the whole crowd in total silence.
About the game, we were beaten by a younger, faster, fitter, stronger, better...
Maybe time for a bit of Sun Tzu or Friedrich Nietzsche.
Tzu -- a victorious army wins the war then goes to battle, the losing army goes to battle and hopes to win the war.
Nietzsche -- Will to power. The continual effort to overcome, overcoming the obstacles that get in the way and overcoming...
I think we'll comeback strong v Giants. Taylor, Greene, Coniglio, out definitely an advantage.
Big O and Lyons out, Fort n Mckenna in, Tunstill back to sub, are the only changes necessary.
I feel a bit gutted for Dev. This was the year I believe that he could have really cemented himself in the 22 before the return of Ashcroft. The wrist injury delaying his preseason and now a dislocated shoulder keeping him out for at least a month. Poor bugger.
Seems to be a bit of a story of...
We didn't play the wet conditions well at all. We were bad infront of goal. We didn't tackle well. Really we were gone as soon as we lost Oscar.
Every player fumbled, slipped off tackles, had kicking shockers, made bad decisions. Picking out individual players to bag in the wet conditions...
Just chasing some Whiting, Dart, maybe a flathead if lucky. Got a handful but all undersized. Beaut morning tho. A whippy 9ft rod, a small egg beater reel and a few worms. Bit early in the year for tailor but looking fwd to the run when it happens. July till September best here on the sunny...
Great start to the day. Early morning beach fishing (no keepers), got the bacon, eggs and black pudding frying up. X blasting from the stereo, yes I still have a stereo. (Suck Suck by X, the greatest Australian song ever recorded. If it doesn't get you going you're dead inside. Check it out...
I saw Radio Birdman with the Hoodoo Gurus years ago in Bris. Can't remember where but it had a pretty wild vibe about it. Had a big night.
I miss seeing a good live band. Punk, Ska, Alternative my leaning, but always loved a good Aussie pub band.
After 30 odd touches by Dev last week in the Vfl, I don't know that JL offers anything that Dev can't. But Dev does offer more mobility. Although I do think another full game in the vfl will be of more benefit to Dev than a qtr as sub. So I can see the thinking behind bringing in Lyons. Another...
With Charlie's suspension do we just bring McKenna (if fit) back in, keep Answerth and move Zorko back into the fwds. I'm all good with giving McKenna as much time to get 100% but we have this propensity to bring players back as soon as possible. This move keeps the defensive aggression Answerth...
I didn't expect that. I thought a narrow loss was on the cards. A very good win in the end. I thought we controlled the game very well. We used the width of the G better than we have done. Last 10mins was ordinary, and bombed deep far too often, but a dominant game overall.
Poor old Oscar...
Anyone have enough local knowledge to recommend a good old pub to watch a game of footy, have a pint or a medical Scotch, and a good chicken parmigiana, in the Yallambie area of Melbourne. Or if there's a pub worth travelling to, I'm interested. Old bloke friendly, comfy chair, good screen, cold...
I still have a great dislike for May. His late shot, knocking Stef out, and he knocked someone else out too, turned me right off him. Who was that other player knocked out? Was it Rockliffe?
The narrow ground made us fight n scrap, chase n tackle in the middle. We did that well for the first half. Buttoned off in the 3rd and lost the qtr by 2 points. Against better teams that could have been 24. Tried to wrestle it back in the last, was somewhat successful but again could have been...
Gardiner in, Fort out signals 3 tall fwds. Fagan wants to play like that right or wrong. That being the case, he's really wasted the opportunity to blood a young lad that's performing in Morris. No better time than now v North I think. For this game instead of trying to manufacture a fwd...
Should Daniher be playing the CHF role, and Hippy play closer to goal. Joe likes to get up n down the ground, it gets him in the game. It drags his man up the ground, he marks and delivers better down the line and is a better kick at goal from that 50m range. Hippy has always looked better...
Andrews fwd, Hippy back, Bailey and Zorko off half back, Starcevich into the midfield, Berry to hb, Gardiner fwd, Fletcher to hb, Wilmot to wing, Tunstill to wing, Lohmann to wing, Hippy to wing, Payne can be a fwd, fringe players with multiple roles, Charlie sub, B cat rookies are our only...
All the fringe players need a run of games, Dev 2 games back from a busted wrist needs more, Answerth until McKenna returns at least, Lohmann performing in the ressies needs the challenge in firsts and games to prove it. Gotta stick, n give them time to settle into a role.
I think a lot of the...
I thought as a team the game v Pies was an improvement. We started the season underdone in preseason, underdone with injury recovery and we've had some irreplaceable injuries. I think for a lot of players the more they play the better they will get. So I can see the reasoning behind sticking...
I think a functioning defense preventing goals is the more important job of the back 6-7. If they are stopping them scoring and clearing without error I'm pretty happy. Kiddy n McKenna, what they bring, we can't replace or replicate in attack but we can make sure our defense is tight first...
I don't mind the team overall. I expect Lohmann to be sub.
I like that it's 6 defenders named with Ah Chee on the bench possible 7th def/sm fwd role. I would expect Zorko to go back at some stage but it's good to know we have genuine defenders if Hill etc get away. I'm OK Answerth got the spot...
Well let's not play Berry at half back for a start. Made no sense, got in the way. If he is going to be any chance of performing to an acceptable standard he has to be played to his strengths with the simplest of roles. Tag him, run wing hard, be bull in middle for 5 minutes. Make it simple.
I don't know what to think here. They could pick any number of players to replace any number of players for whatever reason but if it's not a 4qtr effort we can't expect a different result.
The wet could see us play safe with Doedee. Zorko down back I fear his defensive lapses will outweigh...
I think he can. I think he plays much better when given a role on someone. He's got the size to battle Oliver/Petracca on the inside and he's got the run or should have to shadow Sidebottom or the like. I'd give him that role on Sidebottom Thursday. One job, all game. Wherever he goes.
Righto, seems some good came out of the Vfl game yesterday. Payne found his hands, kicked a cpl, maybe got some touch. Doedee had a run, seemed comfortable. Tunstill and Prior had good numbers but wasted the ball a bit.
I'm lining them up like this
Starce, Payne, Doedee
Ah Chee, Andrews...
