Just discovered this thread, never had a se one team before but they are great to watch.
One thing I noticed on the weekend is that Hogan actually looks in really good shape to kick this year off. Will be interesting to see if he can finally meet some of the crazy early expectations on him.
I always thought the AFLPA had an insurance policy for players who were forced to retire early due to injury. Could be wrong though, maybe that is just to cover ongoing medical costs
Usually the VFL starts up a couple of weeks into the AFL season. Would it be worth playing him as sub for a game or two, get him a quarter / quarter and a half of game time?
It is hard to pick, Viney I think just had his best season of his career, even if he was disappointing for the finals, but he has been injury prone his whole career.
May looked mortal for the first time this year, such a good reader and distributer back there but has relied on a ridiculous...
Silly argument really. Rivers is far taller than both, has a much greater leap than both and would be more useful in the centre square than both.
The argument I was making was that at least Rivers would bring some upside over playing someone purely because they were tall. At 188cm and with his...
I would use Rivers to give Gawn a chop out in the ruck. Gets him some midfield time and would at least be a weapon for us when the ball is on the ground in the middle. Kid has a leap on him as well, just tell him to hold off the ruck contests around the ground a bit and he can keep jumping into...
Right, I was trying to find this the other day and thought he wasn't in there. Must have missed his name instead.
Good to know, I have hope that we will get a superstar F/S before they shut the rule down.
Didn't think he was actually looking like he was going to get drafted anyway? Pretty sure he hasn't been among the top players in his state level QLD team, and they usually only have a handful each draft. Could still come on fast as a pretty big guy, but not taking the AFL world by storm.
Don't care if Curtin says he will just ask go come home, if he is best available then just take him. Try and get the many other WA boys to settle him in, or throw boobs at him and hope some stick. Worst case scenario would be a rinse and repeat of the Luke Jackson scenario, but I want another...
Just checked 2019, 12 of the first 14 picks went interstate, only 1 of them has gone home after 4 years in the AFL. 1 of the 2 players drafted to their home state has now moved interstate as well.
2019 we took 2 WA lads and one SA, we have lost 1 and they all played in a flag. Along with Petty, an SA lad who we have currently gotten 6 years from with another 2 contracted. Probably about 1% of players drafted interstate try and go home. Not worth avoiding the best player for.
Think the go home factor is really overblown. There must be a 100 players on lists for interstate teams and you have 1 or 2 want to go home in any given year.
Odds of someone leaving to go home are actually just a small percentage but we make a big deal out of it.
I have wondered if they could trade pick 3 to Goldy for 5 and their first next year and an agreement not to bid on Walter. Could have their picks of the smalls and then take O'Sullivan while stockpiling an additional pick next year. Gold Coast get a top prospect before their 3 academy kids who...
Interested to see how the smaller forwardline goes, reckon it could be a better option than having Grundy or Schache in there with TMac. Hope Trac plays more forward with just some short mid bursts.
Hopefully Eagles win. Reckon if North get pick 1 and Reid then AFL won't give them first round compo for McKay or priority access since they have a stack of decent young players already and just need time.
They can either keep McKay or force a trade for him then if they want better compo.
Maybe it is just me, but I would have assumed the vast majority of people would quite happily take $600k to play a year of footy at Casey. I mean, he has a family, what is one more year of work even if it isn't at the highest level. Maybe he walks away for $400-$500 as a handshake but why?
Highly doubt Brown walks away without taking his final years salary with him, would rather have him fill a list spot if we have to pay the ~$600k anyway.
Yeh, I feel this way with half the team unfortunately, we look best when we put together a quick series of handballs, get some run and then only need 1 or 2 kicks on target to get a goal.
Not sure why so many players are produced these days that struggle to hit an unpressured 30m pass to a lead.
If we do what we should and smash Brisbane out of the middle then it won't matter who we play on Cameron. Not sure I like many people as a match up on him if they are getting consistent quality forward entries.
I think you misunderstand how a salary cap works..........
Whether Grundy plays for 5 years or not, it doesn't impact the salary cap for next year. Or the year after. If he is on $700k a year then that costs us $700k a year out of the salary cap. Not $1m, like Jackson is getting at Freo.
For...
Not sure about a key defender either, seems like we have good depth there. Still have no idea what was left that was decent.
He does look skinny but draft hub has him down as 196cm and 89kg so not super light for a draftee
