Overall, all of the designs are awesome, I was quite surprised to see the popularity of 3D templates after being absent from here for the last 2 years. The overall design quality on this board has definitely risen.

I'm not disputing that. Personally I vote for the design itself, not the presentation. I can understand why others vote otherwise though.

Anyone can chuck an average design on a pretty template and make it look nice, I vote for the actual design elements and originality.
