My mistake, it was 94. I remember that 92 game as well. If memory serves it was the first weekend with the new Southern Stand

Another game I remember fondly was early
93 when we beat Essendon at Princes Park. Tim Watson’s 300th but Brad Boyd’s breakout game

I remember a bloke called Mark Dwyer who burst into the Fitzroy team in 86. He only played the 2nd half of the season, polled 10 Brownlow votes (including votes in each of his first 5 games of footy). Only about 13 games in total. Shaggy hair, long sleeves and socks around his ankles.
In a...
Would have been a great team if they had been able to stay together. 93 was such an even season and all things being equal, with the list we had, we would have been pretty strong over the coming years.

It was a great year by Lynch, as good an individual season as I remember. My memory is that he had played mainly at FB in 91/92 and the first part of 93 before being swung forward for the last 1/2 or 2/3 of 93. Good team in 93 the Roys

Probably right that it would have been tough regardless. Maybe in another alternate universe the Roys won the flag that year, lost the next two to Essendon, back to back 88/89, the newly merged Brisbane Hawks (coached by Garry Wilson) got a three peat 2001-2003 before Fitzroy got their own...
This was the first game I remember seeing as a kid (on tv). Would have made a great difference for Fitzroy’s future if they had won the flag that year. I still rewatch that last quarter hoping somehow that the result will be different, that deliberate out of bounds won’t be called and that...
I remember thinking at the time that Neitz and Lynch were probably hard to split, even for a biased Lions fan like me. Both quite different styles early in their careers to later, both missed extended periods of time when they should have been at their peak. I didn’t see enough of Neitz really...
It’s the Roos one I remember I think. We were up against North at Princes Park and won by only a point a two. There was talk in the media that he’d come back early for that game but it didn’t happen, he did walk out of the players race just after the team but he was in his suit! I remember Lynch...
I watched a lot of Quinlan as a young Fitzroy fan, too young to remember Blight playing really. Those that objectively remember both, what are your thoughts on who’d be the better player?

I remember that. Matt Rendell and Bernie Quinlan out injured, Reeves had to ruck most of the match in those long pants!

I remember 93 well, we could have been real contenders that year. If memory serves, Roos broke his jaw in a state game and we lost 4 in a row - it may have been 94. Good list around that time

New to the forum, hope no one minds me joining the chat!
Quite a few games against Essendon stand out in the memory - Tim Watson’s 300th which was one of Brad Boyd’s breakout games - we had a great win that day, Watson’s return from retirement the year before - we lost by a few points only to...
