Torquay North been established a fair bit longer than Armstrong Creek and does seem likely they’ll have a senior club by 2026, maybe even next year.
The Torquay/Jan Juc area is definitely big enough to hold 2 senior footy clubs. I thought Torquay North would’ve maybe started up in the gdfl as...
Gfl is definitely metro footy, bfl still has that town vs town identity that country footy has. I think most people would be happy to keep things as they are with the exception of moving Torquay up a league and trying to figure something out for North Shore.
It’s the way things are done down this way unfortunately. Instead of bringing in a standard promotion/relegation system like everywhere else, they pander to the clubs that are scared of change.
The landscape has changed in the region and it’s time for change. North Shore was a hugely...
Grovedale will struggle this year but still it’s a team from one of the premier local comps playing against a div 3 club. Doesn’t make sense for either club I wouldn’t have thought.
It was posted on the krock facebook page
Is one of the upcoming practice matches against Grovedale from the Geelong footy league? Seen it on a local Geelong radio stations facebook page and thought it may have been a typo as it’s a very strange choice of opposition for both clubs
The addys alright if you follow Geelong, local sport coverage has been shocking for years now. Krocks Facebook page has a lot better content for the local leagues
Honestly don’t think we need divisional footy in Geelong. Plus there’s no way the premier division would only have 8 clubs in it. Footy in Geelong is not immune to the problems that are going on all over the state. Lara have forfeited a reserves game this year, there’s club all over the region...
Mate Armstrong Creek are years off having a senior club. The soccer club is twice as big as the footy club and both have been around about the same time. Surf Coast should have a senior side within 5 years id imagine but that’ll be the only new senior club in Geelong for a long time
Reckon there was talk years and years ago about Hoppers Crossing coming to the GFL but don’t know how serious it was or how far talks got. I follow the GFL and I can pretty confidently say the only club that may come into the league is Torquay. Can’t see another club past Lara joining the comp...
What sharks are you referring to? If it’s Armstrong Creek it looks like they have 4 under 9’s, 1 under 10’s, 1 under 12’s and 1 under 14’s teams. That would suggest to me that they’re awhile off having a senior section.
My guess would be surfcoast would be the next senior club in the region...
Like most leagues since the introduction of the points system, it’s become a very boring and predictable comp. St Mary’s, Colac, Joeys always strong and now only stronger because of the points system and junior set ups. Leopold and Newtown always around the mark, South and Bell Park up and down...
Last quarter was a tough watch but you boys just steam rolled us. I don’t think we have up or choked we just couldn’t get our hands on the ball or stop the momentum
Was at the game and anyone saying Essendon gave up or choked is doing a disservice to the pies. We just couldn’t go with them in the last once they got a roll on. Majority of dons fans around us all thought a 28 point lead wasn’t a sure thing either as you knew the pies would come. For the first...
Thanks for that. I follow the Geelong league but the forum on big footy has been dead for years so I appreciate the reply. Grovedale has 3/4 big blokes with afl and state league experience on their list so they can be decent side on their day. Good luck to Willy for the season 👍🏼
Decent game? Both the sides they played were very similarly matched last year so would be interested to know how you rated both sides on what you seen in the practice games?
It doesn’t even work in Geelong. No one can match St Mary’s, St Joeys and Torquay for junior numbers. No surprises to see them 3 clubs continually up the top in their leagues whilst down the bottom it’s the same each year for clubs like North Shore, Portarlington etc
