Interesting thread and great insight into the highs and lows of being a Collingwood supporter.... Its never easy but its always interesting! On this topic; I think Buckley summed it up best at the B & F last year:
Don’t be afraid of the hurt.
Don’t be afraid of the downside because as soon as...
Good assessment overall!! Well played.
if its based on our shape in September there are a couple I would disagree or have a watch on:
Adams: I think he is building well, but he was huge in September. If he snapped that goal late he probably wins the Norm Smith.
De Goey: I hope you are right...
It looks to me like we are desperate need of a small forward who can crumb and tackle..... Brown looks like he can but then goes missing.
Has anyone done that in the VFL? Does anyone know how Broomehead is playing?
Let me preface this by saying that they wont make any of these changes. For the most part Buckley will back in the players and the game plan for as long as he thinks it needs.....
But here is what they could do:
Forward line: Issues: Has not any cohesion, continuity, or form for about 7 weeks...
Dont know for sure; but I feel like he is playing more of an inside role in the absence of Adams and Sier. His clearance numbers for the last month suggest that, not his contested numbers though.... and that may explain his untidyness with the ball.
In my view the best footy I have seen him play...
Apologies if this has been covered in the thread already, but what's the deal with Sier? Why didn't he play JLT? Injury? Will he play round one?
I feel like he is more important without Adams....
Very interesting! Beam's numbers are still elite!!
I think if Sidebottom were on the way out this year we would demand 2 top 10 picks! Not sure if we would get it....
That's interesting about May and the 17 games..... I guess he has had a lot of injuries and suspensions over the journey?
I agree on Moore; May is more of a known quantity but I have a feeling Moore can be something special if he gets his body right!
The problem with trading him now also is we...
I voted yes - but I am also happy that we did the trade! We wont actually know if we paid too much for years....
My guess on the whole thing:
Once we nearly went all the way this year; the strategy for the trade period became:
- Maintain the scope to draft Quaynor and Kelly
- Land a genuine...
I remember David Matthews being interviewed a few years ago; and he said to that point (2016 or something) the only player that had gone that they were desperate to keep was Taylor Adams. He and Treloar seem to be the best of all the lot so far.
I agree with this! I would expect to see Treloar's contested numbers plummet next year as he should become the outlet from the contest.... When he has time and space he is actually a decent user of the ball and was good for nearly a goal a game before his hamstrings blew!
I agree that they could potentially look at him; but I have a feeling they will bundle some of those picks up to try and get higher in the draft. I wouldn't be surprised if any or all of 8,13,16, and 21 are used to try and get in front of Port's pick 5 so they can guarantee one of the gun SA...
Had a crack at this last night; looks pretty similar to some of the others that are on here. I have also added age as at Round 1 next year:
B: Brayden Maynard - 22, Lynden Dunn - 31, Tom Langdon - 24
HB: Jeremy Howe - 28, Darcy Moore - 23, Jack Crisp - 25
C: Adam...
Other way round.... Their second rounder will be early 20s if they win the spoon! Still a bargain from all reports, although I haven't seen much of him!
Gary Buckenara analyses Collingwood’s list after the 2018 season
WHAT a remarkable season it was from Collingwood.
As player after player after player was struck down with injury, the Magpies could have put up the white flag and said it’s just not going to happen this year.
They didn’t.
It...
I cant confirm; but I do remember someone on SEN (someone used to come in and do trade updates for Andy Maher...? ) reporting that we were inquiring about trying to add him into the Treloar deal. I don't know how far they progressed but it sounded like we were into him.
I think he fills a need...
Hey guys, just a quick note of congratulations on the epic GF win!! Sensational game and the best team won on the day!! Soak it up!
I'm a little sad today but so proud of my team none the less....
Seeing this kid on the weekend makes me wonder how Greewood was ever getting a game this year.... I really liked his first 4 or 5 steps out of stoppage! Seems to have a lot of power!
Tough one at selection this week! I really feel for Dunn as he was on the cusp on finally playing finals.....
I think we need speed this week so Varcoe's fitness is timely! Haven't seen any of the VFL but I would assume they are keen to bring Murray back at the expense of Appleby with the quick...
I think on the surface of it the injuries have been a catastrophe.... But it has completely reshaped the list and what my expectations were for it! At the start of the season I thought all of Reid, Fasolo, Greenwood, Goldsack and Wells were all walk up starts to the best 22, now I'm not so sure...
One of the worst games I have seen this year.... Frustration levels through the roof and from the opening bounce you could just tell it was going to drag out! But that was Carlton's grand final given the week they had in the media so to get the W is a great result in my book! They seem to save...
IMO;
- If Pendlebury gives it up at the end of this or next year then its Sidebottom. I would be very surprised though as it doesn't seem to burden him, and he has a few seasons left as a big contributor. Very very long shot, but maybe Dayne Beams!?
- If Pendlebury holds onto it for 3 years +...
Just looked like a touch issue last night with Moore; he got his hands on a lot of balls but couldn't hold on to them! That will come with continuity and it would be silly to take him straight out.... He and Cox will stretch and undersized Cats back line this weekend!
Should be an interesting week at selection..... I thought there were a few down/sore players last night but 4 points is 4 points so there is no need to panic!
- Langdon should come back in if fit. I would keep Appleby in the side to cover Maynard, which frees Adams and Varcoe to play...
Exactly!! I think these games give you a better insight into the maturity of the group than getting up for blockbuster.... Hopefully we just get the W and get he hell out of there with no fresh injuries!
