Seriously - can you be more arrogant - "try and break the current dominant system on behalf of the other 17 teams"
AFL have done it before (Swans/WCE of the mid 2000s) and other sports do it - Formula 1 for example.
So not arrogant, just factual (OK and a little bit arrogant :) )
Interesting post. I DO actually blame Damien Hardwick for Richmond being consistently last in the free kick differential and the "50s against" ladder, and subsequently often then giving up momentum within games and occasionally you could argue, a win.
I blame him because he constantly reminds...
If we perceive there is a problem with the game it's not about free kicks, it's about the rules and adjudicating them
After last night though (the non-50 at the end) all rules are now in the grey zone, "common sense" or letter of the law are both applied, so the game is really at crisis point...
Nailed it I think. Biggie a great story but the selection was a bit cute and we luckily got away with it. But he needs to hold his marks, be much cleaner with the ball, and be more physical in the 1 on 1 contests - work on that back in the VFL. Edwards could also come in but who goes out? He's...
Every team has young players and they mess up from time to time, even though we love seeing them out there in our colours giving it a go. We dont know if they will "make it" or not, but great they are getting a shot.
Which gets me thinking, while a player is developing, do you want to see them...
I don't see the big deal about a guy who's dyed his hair and gone out and kicked a few goals.
Whether he ends up becoming a star or not doesn't matter, the game needs a few flashy players, I hated the booing of a young man at the G on Saturday (although that was probably more for the goals from...
"what does footy lose when Pendles retires?"
An example of a player who's stature and good name means he never gets pinged for holding the ball or a throw.
John Nicholls was in Mike Sheahan's top 10 players of all time at number 7.
This list was compiled in 2008
I saw Nicholls play a bit and thought he was tough, strong and a great leader,.
Then I saw Sheahan had Nicholls ahead of Royce Hart!
So my unpopular opinion is that, great as he was in...
Surprised Rutten didnt have more than 18 votes.
Hinkley will string some wins together, Leon and Stewie, well no-one cares enough, Simpson probably next in line after Truck.
But the entitlement factor at Essendon shouldnt be under estimated
Have never really followed CFL although been to a couple of games - they are a bit loose!
Noticed no less than 8 Aussies were drafted in their Global draft - which is for non-Canadian and non-American players - 7 of which were punters as you'd expect
Ex-Tiger Ben Griffiths gets a go too after...
He absolutely was given feedback - To work on areas of his game that were required by our game plan at that time. Ironically he would be doing better at our club now with the stand and kick-out rules limiting the impact of small forwards in the pressure game anyway.
Shocking read but felt compelled to finish the whole (long) article if for no other reason than out of respect for the victims.
Reflecting today on my fortunate life.
And yes, reading that, the most damning point seems to not be that the club didn't apologise, acknowledge the suffering took...
"Jack Higgins - The one that got away?"
Not really, he's the one that wanted to be somewhere else. Plus he wasn't vested in the team ethic, just wanted to run around and have fun and kick a couple of snags. I get that, well down at the park anyway.
So yeah, happy for him to go, don't...
Would only consider him the one that got away if he was a regular senior player, or banging the door down in the 2s but not getting a look in
But neither of these were the case, so no.
But it's always good to see players work through things and find themselves in a better space to contribute...
I'd say guys been doing that in the playground and at training since the year dot, Stevie was the one who brought it to game day.
I'm sure the first time he did he got stern words from the coach, but he persevered and had the skills to pull it off. Hard to continue to rip a guy who is kicking...
Stupid. Clumsy. Ill-considered. Sort of trying to get the guy off him/deter him from landing on him
A fine is fine.
But a suspension for that and I'll walk away from this game and say "you win AFL" good luck with it all.
Exactly - it only becomes an issue when it impacts clubs that arent Richmond.
Richmond 8 x 50s against Carlton = Undisciplined Tigers, great game by the young up and coming Blues
Bulldogs 2 x 50s against Richmond = The reason the Bulldogs lost, need to look at these rules, are they being...
Throwing the ball out of a tackle is the new norm.
If they'd pulled it up in the Adelaide v Richmond game, the free kick count would have been about level
TBH it would be nice to take a record away from St Kilda - Vic Cumberland is still the oldest player to appear in an AFL/VFL game, at the age of 43.
Richo is 47
