That answer has nothing to do with my post, and is fundamentally wrong.
Pretty much, all of our players are drafted. Most of them will play VFL at some point. The VFL is where players who aren't in the seniors can show whether or not they are ready to play seniors. Being best on ground, getting...
He just had best on ground, including 10 coaches votes, playing CHF in the VFL. Seemed to run out the game just fine and kicked the goal that sealed the result. So apart from putting him in the wrong position and having no idea about his match fitness, good post!
Knowing a ground well has to be one of the most ridiculous reasons to select an AFL player I've ever heard. Clarko may well keep Pink and drop Corr, but that won't be the reason.
I think Sellers currently a more finished player than Maley. I think Maley has a massive upside, and plays a style that is a better compliment to Larkey. Having a guy in the forward line who can take contested marks would be a big difference from where we have been.
Sellers is much closer to...
After 3 weeks of AFL and 2 of VFL, I've been thinking about what our best team could look like in August. This is where I have got to:
B: Bergman Comben K Dawson
HB: Fisher Logue Sheezel
C: Scott Wardlaw McKercher
HF: Simpkin Maley Dursma
F: Curtis Larkey Ford
R: Xerri LDU...
We've also been developing George, a player speculated to be a top-10 pick before his knee, in a defensive role in the VFL. Injuries to Goater and Bergs have limited options as well.
Can't just click our fingers and magic up a premiership backline!
Clarko has nothing to learn from either Shiels or Greenwood. He knows what he gets with both of them and that they may increase the likelihood of a win.
As much as me might like it, Clarko has no interest in snatching the odd unexpected win. he is focussed on setting us up for the future...
That is true Gaso! Clarko probably cares far less about wins in 23 than he does in 24. And he probably doesn't care that much about wins in 24. All about learning and laying foundations in 24.
I think you need to consider the possibility that Clarko isn't that worried about wins in 2023. He may coach those moments very differently if he had a team that were genuine contenders.
I don't really think he's flying, but he's definitely improved and playing better than I thought capable.
Until this season I really didn't see anything there at all and would have been happy to let him go. He provides a physical presence and is doing better around the ground.
Outs
CCJ - Injury but form would have meant the same result.
Stepho - playing without any confidence and goes missing too much.
Corr or Pink - take your pick but one has to go.
Tucker - just has no impact on the game.
Ins
Comben - two VFL games now in the backline. Biggest, strongest, and best...
I don't think we've had forwards taking grabs like that at any level since Waite and Petrie were in their prime. Maley, given he has played literally no serious football, maybe the most talented mark of the footy we have had since Carey. Reads the flight of the ball very well, fantastic leap...
Geez. Plenty of the posters in this forum need to book a session with their therapist this week. Some massive overreactions!
Taking an optimistic view of the season we definitely wont lose in rounds 12 or 23.
I'd expect us to at least break even from the following rounds:
6 Hawks - Marvel
7...
I recall having the same though watching the Freo game. You would think whenever one of McKercher, Sheezal, Powell, Fisher and a few others with elite kicking skills is about to hit a forward 50 entry, the forwards would be working as hard as they can to get separation, not standing still and...
I was just coming here to say something along these lines. The 3 teams we have played this year are collectively 9 and 0. GWS and the Blues were in every expert's predicted top 4, and are currently first and third in the betting markets to win the premiership. Freo is looking more like the 22...
Yep. Definitely has the capability to kick bags and set up plenty more if he can stay in the game longer. Whether it's tank of concentration, hopefully he is busting a gut to improve it.
He's now kicked multiple goals in his last three games and five of his last nine. Has had a dozen goal assists in the same stretch of games. Has lifted his output after a very slow patch in the middle of last year. He is under 60% on the goals/points ratio. Love to see him push it over 60% as a...
Tommy Powell and Fisher have strong claims on that title. Curtis is very good hitting up a leading forward.
Times have changed since we were a kick it long down the line to a contest team.
There's no ******* D in Comben! He's been on our list for four years and there's never been a D in his name!
I'm not sure how hard it is but that moronic caller of the VFL match couldn't get it right. He kept calling him something like "Cobden". Between that and his mangling of Fairlie, he even...
