The Under 19 Australian Team Thread

Interesting that there is a 2 day U19 'Trial Match" between Victoria and New South Wales that started today, does anyone know the purpose of this match? Most of the big guns playing, Harry Dixon looking very powerful with the bat as usual, against a fairly strong attack.

Agreed that the team is very talented, although Corey Wasley would be in the team if not for a broken finger. Wasley is an extremely talented player in a similar mould to Dixon, explosive left-hander needing some technical refinement. His replacement Ollie Peake is up there with Konstas and...

Anyone get a look at the 17s game this morning?

100% agree, I've been impressed by Sheldrick since the beginning of the season and its nice to see him get some recognition through weight of good performances. From those who have been talked up Browne probably the most disappointing to me, don't get me wrong he's playing good footy but...

Was solid when involved but a bit quiet. They're clearly worried about that shoulder injury, he spent a fair bit of time on the bench and hardly went in the midfield.

Besides those I thought Hewett (19 disposals) played a strong game, Bourne looked dangerous but uncharacteristically kicking 0.4 is costly. Busslinger lead the way in terms of stats (26 disposals & 18 marks). The backs as a whole kept them in the game, forward line structure and ability...

Tough to win with these SA umpires.... Curtin has been superb but many have been disappointing

Traditionally all the top prospects have had two under 18 carnivals, even though this has changed a bit with COVID and age grouping it's basically the same principle. The last full carnival in 2019 saw WA field 3 or 4 overagers from memory through the carnival, about the same as the overagers/19...

Unfortunately for Hagan he's got everything against him physically with lack of speed/size. Everyone loves to talk down the kids ability especially when stats weren't counted but I think its pretty evident now with his colts form that his state medals were justified. Jones and Evitt might not...

Agree but I'd have mumme instead of stretch in the forward pocket. Usually a midfielder but due to a bad hip injury played in the forward pocket on limited gametime in the PSA last week and kicked five, could've had many more. With the lack of key defenders I'd have Blake Morris as an overager...

Surprised to see O'dea so high up, kid has really come from nowhere the last few weeks. How has he been playing?

Probably unlikely, first state game is on Sunday June 20th in SA. Hoping they give out the private livestream link as they have done in the past.

Don't see why a squad would ever get expanded, cut down if anything. Main intention is picking a team for the carnival. Half the names will change for the 19s anyway.

Gus Sheldrick would be extremely stiff to miss out on the 19s, another BOG in his return to claremont colts, smashed the likes of Dittmar in the middle. Has been BOG in 4/4 colts games IMO. Also averaging " competition high 35.5 possessions, 27 kicks and 10 inside 50s and 9.5 tackles per game"...

Motlop looked dangerous through the middle, very evasive at stoppages and Centre bounces showing explosive speed. Don't think he has the tank or polish to be an AFL Mid tho so I'd rather see him spend more time working on his forward craft, looked at his best with that 12 goal game last year as...

I watched the PSA game and would have to agree, Cleaver was very good. Wouldn't say he's a dashing half back but very composed and a lovely kick. Also think that Max Mumme (Grandson of WAFL legend Les) should be looked at for the draft. Slightly undersized yes but he just looks a class above...

Aquinas have the bye this week so free to play colts. Sharp played well in the game that got covered by the west against subi in rd 2 but has been quiet besides that.

Will depend on who gets picked for the state u19s ruck gig, you'd think he would be the leading contender at the moment.

Gus Sheldrick from Claremont is very underrated from what I've seen from him in PSA and now transitioning that form into the first two colts games.

Only two 19 year old's born in first half of the year can play each game. Claremont decided he wasn't in that best 2 so told him he effectively wouldn't be required. Perth dangled the carrot of senior opportunities this season so he left.
